For me though, it's the familiar feel of having your loved one fighting alongside you. Other than that, unlike ME, the party banters and a lot of conversations are related to companions. While ME is a more individual focused game, DA is more of a party focused game.RinjiRenee wrote...

I don't play ME so Cortez/Traynor don't mean anything to me but I can say that if I'm going to be in a game romance, I'll want to hang out with my intended and talk to him as much as possible. If he were to be someone I only saw in my keep I'd probably just lose interest eventually. It was great fun in DAO (and to a lesser extent, DA2) to listen to the party banters associated with the Warden/Hawke's romance. There's nothing like hearing a well-bred English voice saying, "I'm right here, you know."
I happened to like Cortez and Traynor a lot and felt that they would have been ample LIs if not for the fact that they were in the last game of the trilogy. There were very few instances that the squadmate LIs got special dialogue while they were fighting alongside Shepard, and Shepard certainly could not interact with the LIs much outside of the Normandy.
Nine companions confirmed!

Isn't that what we got in the last two games though? 3 minimum and 4 maximum? Not that I'd mind more lady representation, it's just I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get anymore.wright1978 wrote...

As much as I like Cullen, the Iron Bull seems more interesting and I don't love the idea of having four warriors. Yeah i'd prefer' 3 warriors & like you say i can't see there only being 3 female companions of 9. There must be a another rogue or female mage to be unveiled.

They have the right to be annoyed, as long as it stays civil and doesn't degenerate into flamewars

It wasn't so bad in ME3 since you always were at your spaceship between missions, so they stuck with you most of the time (and you could filrt quite a lot with Sam), but in DA where we'll have a static castle and various keeps...I don't see it work very well

I must've misunderstood azarhal's post thinking he said Sera might not be compagnon

DAO gender balance is debatable (does Shale really countq as a female ? what gender is the dog ?) but for DAA I reckon we had a 2f/3m ratio and for DA2, the core team was a 3f/4m ratio
3 females on a 9 companion cast seems very uneven

Wasnt' da2 4 of 9 whilst DAO was only 4 of 10 if you count dog amongst the males.

Well Bethany was optional, hence the maximum of 4 comment and Shale could just as easily be labeled under gender neutral (not that I feel that way). Anyway my point being that barring any extenuating circumstances (not having DLC in Origins or playing a Mage in DA2) we've generally had 3 female companions with an optional fourth.wright1978 wrote...

I wonder if Vivienne is our healer? I mean so far all of the Circle Mages we've come across has been, but maybe she's our....DPS mage? Was that what Morrigan and Merrill were? Potentially both mages could be, but who is gonna be the default?
Supposedly DAI companions can be re-assigned to whatever skillset the player wants them to be.
We've seen warriors with two-handed weapons and sword-and-shield, I would tentatively think that means mages can also be assigned to any school.
Based on the hints of Vivienne's personality, I think she'd be... combative.
Plus, *if* Dorian is in the game and *if* he's the exiled magiser mentioned by Mae in the DA comics, it's possible his specialisations is more towards healing.

Instead of the magister, can we just have Mae as our healer instead. I can just imagine all the banter between her and Cassandra. Too bad that it's too late to add her into the game though.hhh89 wrote...

Yeah, that's what I meant by the whole "potentially both could be" as in you could spec them that way, but I wasn't clear on that point. I was also wondering if her default would be healing ala Wynne but we could do whatever afterwards.ElitePinecone wrote...

Considering how much flak BioWare took because Anders was the only available mage healer in DA2, don't expect one of the mage to be shoehorned into the role again.
It's also possible they removed healing spells, you know to make the comment about "potions are rare and your health doesn't regen so you have to plan battles on the long term" last longer than "until you get your mage to put point into the healing tree".

it would be very tough from a gameplay perspective to completely remove healing, especially if potions are limited. it would be nice to see multiple class having means of healing though, even if it was a lesser extent than the spirit healer. like the scoundrel/sage/trooper think in SWTOR

At best I expect something like Shadowrun returns. Only the last hit can be healed.

It's possible that they'd remove healing spells, but it's unlikely. Healing is too much a part of the lore for them to remove it from the game arbitrarily. I could see them increasing the cooldowns, however.azarhal wrote...

Interestingly, Bioware in taking this extra year plus, is including lots of elements that fans have been lobbying for (eg non-human pc). I am not sre how big the Cullen lobby is, but I will be annoyed if he is not a companion. Most of what Bioware is adding is of less interest to me... could care less about Qunari or non-humam protoganists for example. It is just a matter of preference I suppose but Cullen's character fascinates me.
Do you mean "couldn't care less"?

Ok we have
official
1. Varric /Rouge
2. Cassandra/ Warrior
3. Vivienne/ Mage
Only a matter of time:
4. Grey Warden / Warrior
5. Sera (this dalish girl) / Rogue
6. Qunari/ Tal Vashoth named Iron Bull
7. Cullen / Warrior
Rumor:
8: Leliana / Rogue
9: Magister Dorian Pavus / Mage
10: Cole from Asunder / Rogue
Yes i know that´s one more than 9. But maybe one of them is the Day 1 DLC.
I tend to agree with your selection
I always considered that there were two classes of warrior - sword and shield and two-handed... so that why I never considered there to be an abundance of warriors assuming the Qunari is a warrior.
Then again, I suppose one could argue that there are two classes of rogues and several of mages, depending on weapon choice and magic school.
