Yeah, 9 companions with three from each class seems to be the obvious way they'd do it.

Which made me wonder before, since they already have three warriors (Cassandra, Iron Bull, Grey Warden) and if Cullen was to be a companion that'd be four.

In DAO were also 4 warrior companion (5 if had Shale) and only 2 rogues and 2 mages.

Nah dude, you had four including Shale. Oghren, Sten, Alistair, and Shale. Unless I got a glitched copy of Origins and I'm missing somebody...

Loghain.

Does Loghain really count since he replaces Alistair? I don't think so.

I think he counts as a warrior companion. There is dog that is pretty much a warrior as well.

Well, we did see a female qunari mage in the alpha video... I noticed she walked in a very strange way, perhaps they retconned qunari to have goat/cow legs?

It was Vivienne. The "horns" were simply her hat.

Nine is slightly more than we've had before, but that's befitting the ambitious stuff we've seen so far. I'd imagine we will see three of each class.

I'm thinking female elf rogue with daggers and baldy elf mage are probably companions. The Oxman we've seen so much of is a very likely candidate as well. I'm still not convinced about Cullen.

that leaves us with one mage and one rogue up for grabs. I know many people point to the "companion inventory" screen as evidence scribe girl might be a companion but I still seriously doubt it. She looks far more like one of the "agents" mentioned in the video, or the person who manages the Inquisition's resources.

@Herr Uhl Dog is a warrior? Really? Dog is a dog. S/he is rather unique in that they're just... dogs. They attack like dogs and act like dogs. They can't be warriors. They're dogs.

Since Vivienne seems to be your damage mage companion, there is probably going to be another mage companion whose initial abilities are more focused on healing. (DA:I's Wynne)

I have thought she were like Wynne and Dorian is the man for damage.
Heal mages like Wynne and Anders can also throw fireballs. ;)

It is more likely that circle mage is a heal mage than a guy from Tevinter.

All the screengrabs I could find.  Definitely provides evidence for a female elf rogue, "Sera."  Blonde in one image, brunette in the two recent ones, and green-haired in the pre-alpha build footage.  Also threw in a few confirming shots of the Grey Warden character.

Then why count Shale as a warrior? Dog is more warrior like than Shale.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but my ideal companion breakdown is:

*3 warriors, 3 rogues, 3 mages.
*Gender ratio of 4:5 or 5:4.
*At least 2 elves and at least 2 dwarves.

I want it as diverse as possible, regardless of the narrative.

This is what I want too.
I don't want a whole bunch of humans if we can help it. xD

Well, we have 4 possible humans (Cassandra, Vivienne, Grey Warden, Cullen?), 1 dwarf (Varric) 2 elves (Sera, Male Elf fist on chin guy?)
so that leaves a possible Dwarf and Qunari as two more companions. So that's a decent diversity.

I really hope that Cullen is NOT a companion. He's really bland.

Has anyone ever thought, if the Iron Bull is a companion, he might be a rogue? The description says he's not what one would expect from a qunari. That would make 3 warriors, 3 rogues and two mages possible the 9th companion could be that male Elf in the background of the map stabbing pic.
But that leaves fancy facial hair guy. Who was also in the surveys, if he is Dorian, then that Mysterious Elf guy could be another Mage. Or The Elf guy is Dorian and no clue who Fancy Facial hair guy is if he isn't a Mage. Could be a arcane Mage, the "trident" could be a staff.
Just speculation.
Cause speculating is fun. ;)

My bet is that the Qunari is actually a mage. On the pre-alpha gameplay we can see player icons on the bottom left and one of them looks very much like the mask worn by the Saarebas.

Yes he is a warrior. The best evidence for that he gets in Witch Hunt new warrior talents from Awakening.

In the most recent comic miniseries Maevaris (a Tevinter magister) mentioned an exiled magister with extraordinary healing abilities.  Dorian was described in the survey leak as an exiled magister, so it may have been some foreshadowing.  Provided he's still a companion (and he did appear to be in one of the art pieces in the new trailer if the male elf mage is him) I'm pretty sure he's a healer/support mage.

Interesting! I hadn't thought to associate Dorian with that reference from the comics.

It's just hit me where I recognise that Elf woman from. She looks very similar to the one in the Dragon Age 2 concept video

Maybe or not.
Many things of the survey have changed. A healing Magister sounds a bit too strange. Maybe Bioware
designed him more like a traditional Magister.

Yeah it sounds like the concept for a Sera-like character has been floating around for a while. She might've even been a potential companion for DA2, when they were figuring out the roster.

Though it looks like she might've been changed from an archer to using daggers, at least in the concept art?

I don't remember if it was already mentioned, but in the concept with the Pride demon, the companion to the PC's right seems to be the male bald elf in one of the GI concept art. I initiall thought his weapon was a sword, but it seems more like a staff.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with Varric being added as a companion in Inquisition, and subsequently taking up the "archer" role.
