Considering the amount of people who haven't read any metagame literature and the mixed reception of the book and other outside media, I hope Bioware doesn't give anything or anyone from them major game roles.

Well, if BioWare is able to establish and develop a character well enough without the need of the books, then with the outside media characters.  I didn't play Origins till like a year after it released but they were able to establish a good character like Loghain.  Then when I read the book, The Stolen Throne, it was just able to add more depth to the character.  So this could be the same case for Cole.

Whoa.
How/why did this thread get stickied?

Hmmmm.....

I have no idea, this is the first topic I ever posted.

Until proven otherwise by a mod, I am now going  to assume it is a sign that Cole will be involved in DA:I's plot somehow.

Blair clicked the wrong thing again? ;)

I definitely hope we see more of Cole, as a character it's an interesting look at what it means to be (and act as) human, and from a story perspective I loved the ambiguous nature of what he actually is.

Blair clicked the wrong thing again? What was Blair supposed to click? Who's Blair?

Also, I do enjoy how ambiguous Cole's personality still is. How much of the Cole's personality is still left, after he discovered what it was. Did the spirit find that it joined the slight brush with humanity? Or would it go out of its way to reject it? Was it a spirit or demon taking Cole's form, and what kind? Why did the spirt assume Cole's form in particular? And what made it loose its memories? So many unanswered questions.

Yes, it is sticky now.

Where I was mildly interested before, now I burn with curiosity.

I really hope Cole appears. He was a complex character who proved there's more to spirits/demons than their single emotion existence. How this would be extrapolated while the Fade's invading will probably play an important role.

Also, when he learned to weaponize his ability to make people not notice him by having one Templar not notice when his buddy was brutally murdered right in front of him. I was as creeped out as Leliana, but it was still very cool.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IF YOU BELIEVE! Although I would prefer it if he were in the actual game.

There have been plenty of characters taken straight from other works of media and placed in the game. Cassandra, Loghain and JAMES VEGA. Anybody remember the movie about him?

I'M GOING TO INTERPERET THE STICKY IN THE MOST OPTIMISTIC WAY POSSIBLE AND GO WITH YOU ON THAT ONE.

STICKY IS AN OMEN OF THINGS TO COME! Prepare yourselves!

I'm pretty happy I'm not the only one in this messed up world who likes Cole. We need to spread the love. A stickies thread like this could go a hundred pages. Or more.

This is pretty much my only problem with Cole as a companion. Wouldn't the bolded make him a little...overpowered in combat? :S

But not this time right? This time it was meant to be, a true sign from the Bioware Gods above.

In theory Fenris's lyrium tattoos should make him objectively more powerful than either Carver or Aveline. In theory we should have an army of trees following us around whenever we take Velanna on a mission. In theory Jack should be able to take on two Atlases by herself.

Bioware's not necessarily known for keeping powers consistant between cutscenes and gameplay. I'm certain they'd find a way to work Cole's powers into a balanced combat system.

Cold won't be overpowered. He'll just be able to cloak - like any good Infiltrator - and able to fire one or two powers without uncloaking. Standard ME stuff. I think him shifting in and out of the world is cool as hell!

On another note... would anyone use a Cole banner in a sig? I was thinking of making one (with my limited art skills - basically using a piece of fanart). Now that the thread is sticky Cole fans are never going to back down, and they might as well have a flag with which to fly their allegiance.

Even though Bioware has likely made their final decisions about the game, I still think enough fan demand should do something positive!
(Because being interested in a psychopathic spirit demon is a very wholesome and positive endeavour).

In case Cole is not a planned companion, let's hope it was one of the writers on the hunt for a good character to make day1 DLC. ;)

I would throw my eleven dollars into Bioware's airlock to get that dlc. But an original in-game Cole would be a lot better. He would matter more, be essential to the story. Plus, yo might get to do more than hold hands with him like you do with Sebastian.

If he is included in a day 1 dlc, he could fulfill a similar unique role as Shale, who was also tied into the whole Anvil storyline and had pretty special powers. That would be awesome.

Sticky clearly means that Cole absolutely must be a companion! Or the devs are toying with my emotions. But they wouldn't to that... would they?

Anyway, time for VICTORY CARTWHEELS!

"Now I walk within the shadows. I can see the light, but it never finds me. I reach for it, but it slips through my fingers. In the shadows you are always alone, the world oblivious to your passing."

"It sounds like a lonely way to live."

A hint of surprise crossed the young man’s gaze. “You think I’m alive?”

"Aren’t you?"

He turned and stared out the window, his response lost in his rapt attention to the lone, delapidated shutter slowly swinging in the breeze. Beyond, the daylight was almost too bright, a glare swallowed the instant it entered the darkened Chantry. The young man eventually shrugged. “I miss Rhys,” he said. “And Evangeline. They were my friends.”

-This is from Gaider's blog. Since the context is after Cole's interaction with Rhys and Evangeline in Asunder, it would be a safe bet to expect him to at least be an npc in DAI. The leaked survey also mentioned Cole as a companion, and since a lot of other things from that is confirmed at this point...yeah. (Vivienne is the quill/parchment lady, the grey warden that appears as a companion in the Game Informer videos, -A LOT- of screen time from our kossith friend, bunches of concept art and possibly a glimpse of "Sera" in game, etc. etc.) I have high hopes (and maybe expectations at this point) that he'll make it in as a companion.

Also, while in the midst of the final season of Dexter, I can't help but notice similarities between Cole and Dexter. At least in the sense of Cole thinking he needs to kill (probably unknown to him for blood magic purposes) to stay corporeal; and Dexter feeling the need to kill to ground himself, in a sense. Both characters are also considered somewhat "good", but also monsters. I wonder if Gaider had any inspiration from TV's favorite serial killer? Was wondering if anyone else noticed this, or just...you know, food for thought.

I didn't know Gaider was such a big Cole fan, this gives me a lot of hope.

"I adore Cole. Always have. One day maybe I’ll talk about where he came from… within me, I mean. It’s a really strange story." - From the same blog post from Gaider that I quoted from earlier. So I guess Cole is a character he'd be writing himself? I would assume at least...
