Cole pre-realization would be worse than Merrill when it comes to being a LI for me. I detest taking up any kind of "protector" mantle in a relationship and I couldn't lose that vibe with Merrill and I wouldn't be able to lose it with pre-realization Cole. Afterwards though... He becomes much more nuanced. That was really the hook that got me interested in the character. When he goes through that Sixth Sense-esque realization (except more malevolent) and is very bluntly forced to confront his dark side. Or shadow-self as Jung would have said. This is what I'm hoping to see. Cole vacillating between two poles and hopefully with a little help landing somewhere in the middle. He'd still be hecka interesting just as a companion but a LI that's potentially a demon and may try and kill you sometime in the future or simply fade away does have its potential for some serious angst and pathos.

And we all know those are basically requirements for a good romance.

Good guys? GOOD GUYS? ! They weren't the "good guys", they were the protagonists of a book.

Those are two very different things indeed. Just because they were the main characters doesn't mean they have to be righteous! 
Think of the GREY! GREY GREY GREY! All fifty shades! In modern fantasy, the ideas of complex morality and anti heroes are developing with great popularity.

The word good guy should be abolished when talking about any recent work of fantasy. I think Bioware prides themselves on maintaining a level of moral debate. If there were always good guys and bad guys, we wouldn't having such a heated discussion about our friend Cole.

Cole is chaotic neutral. He isn't good by any means, oh no.   Rhys has his own place in the alignmebt square too. Lawful good purity is a thing of the past.

There is more than one Circle in Orlais.

Vivienne could have been successor to Montsimmard - or she could have been Edmonde's successor at the White Spire in Val Royeaux and Adrian may have been chosen to take his place because she was in the popular position of supporting freedom as apposed to returning to the Circle system.

I made a Cole signature! Several people expressed interest... I used the Battlebloodmage's quote, because it's totally true, and I thought it sounded awesome.
The picture was by serenity-falls, Tumblr. I think it's quite possibly the best Asunder fanart out in the world.
Either way, now us Cole fans can display allegiance in flying colours!

Nice, but I use the Cole pitcure from the Asunder book cover because we really don't know if Cole is human or elf, truth be told.
