Am I wrong, Ventus? Do you deny this happens?

In regards to the overwhelming majority of people, yes. This does not happen.

And hence we have a lot of gun nuts very drastically overstating how dangerous society is to try and justify themselves. Pretending that America has become sheep threatened by wolves, pretending we're on the cusp on invasion by a dozen countries, pretending that criminals ready and eager to kill are on every streetcorner. All this despite every statistic saying otherwise.

This doesn't happen nearly as often as you would like.

The fact that plenty of gun ranges now offer all kinds of zombie survival gear and information should be indicative that their primary draw is fantasy, not actual safety.

It's called novelty. Do you know what that is?

Quite the contrary. Given that I'd prefer it to not happen at all, such a thing happens a great deal more than I would like.

I'd go for an old-school cool down weapon off the black market. *cough* Lancer and/or Predator *cough*

Well this depends on who I am exactly. Military/police? My duty weapon.
A colonist/spacer/citizen of a less than safe locale? Eviscorator if avilable katana more likely.
A Merc/bounty hunter/some other paramilitary? M6 carnifex for daily carry but it would just be a sidearm when on mission.
Average civilian of somewhere like the citidel? Nothing, maybe a predator at home but for carrying I'd just have some self defense programs on an omnitool like overload or something.

As sexy and sleek as guns are portrayed in fiction, I'm afraid that the people who advocate guns in real life are generally an incredibly unsexy bunch.

When I've been to gun ranges, there's this aura in the air. This very unpleasent stench of desperation. Looking around, I get the feeling that people desperately, desperately want someone to try and mug them in an alley. Or someone to try and enter their house. Or for China to invade or something. So that once, just once, they can finally use this skill they've been training for years with. They can finally feel that rush of triumph and success.

the sexbot raises an interesting point :P

Hurricane all the way. Possibly a Black Widow too.
