I like to give Garrus a Javelin. He kills things rather quickly with it, despite having to reload a lot.

Also, when leveling your squadmates, select the weapon damage evolutions instead of the health and power ones. It really makes a difference.

Just checking back in:

I think the Typhoon may be TOO powerful. I wonder if it is "broken" like the Incisor in ME2? I gave James and Javik a Typhoon for the Rachni mission and those Ravagers were going down faster than I had a chance to shoot at them. I would scoot over to cover and by the time I looked up the Ravagers would be down to 2 armor segments, or even dead. (This is with just a level 1 Typhon.)

I actually didn't have a problem with the Incisor "bug" in ME2, but this Typhoon thing has me rethinking giving it to my squadies. I may switch them out to the Revenant once we get it.

The Typhoon turns insanity into casual. The fact that it staggers most enemies just adds to it's power. I beat the armax arena N7 challenge without firing a single shot, just running around.(Typhoon level 5)

Dat damage though. I slapped it on Wrex+Kaidan team and went on a cigarette (Hardcore difficulty). All enemies were killed when I came back

Not to sound like an elitist but why the heck are you playing on Hardcore difficulty? Insanity is disgustingly easy.

My honest opinion is that weight penalties don't affect squadmates, so I give them heavier weapons with the assumption they will do more damage with them. Mod everything with a piercing mod and a damage mod. (or power mod for your casters).
That's my strategy and it's worked pretty well so far...

There isn't an opinion on the matter. :)

Squadmates don't care about weapon weight.

Squadmates are not affected by weight limits. If you give them Typhoon they will tear up the place. Personally I equip Harrier's and Lancers for my squad. I prefer lighter guns that hit hard and allow for fast combat (yeah, too much reality).

Revenant - Extended barrel, Piercing mod.

James:
Revenant - Extended barrel, Piercing mod.
Crusader - High caliber barrel, Shredder mod.

Javic:

Phalanx - High calibre barrel, Power magnifier.

Kaiden:

With my crappy laptop, Insanity can actually get hard when FPS drops to single digits lol. Already have achievement for it anyway

this thread is apparently dead before I got to it, but I will add my 2 cents.

garrus and ashley act weird with the argus and valkyrie, they fire a single bullet then hunker back down. they also only fire once with the black widow before hunkering back down.

garrus did decently with the viper but was inconsistent with how he was firing with it.

garrus and ashley actually kill things with the javelin.

tali was inconsistent with the graal and GPS, not sure if she only fired them once before stopping and not charging, but things were just not dying as much as they should have.

liara and EDI didn't fire their weapons much.

so here is my go-to loadouts.

garrus/ashley - viper into javelin (since you get it kind of late)
james - claymore
tali - claymore (oh baby)
liara - scorpion
EDI- scorpion
javik - scorpion
kaiden - revenant

only DLC I have is from ashes and citadel + preorder bonus given to me by customer service when they didn't understand the difference between SP and MP, and me complaining I didn't get my N7 weapon from weekend challenge got me an N7 weapon for both.

I think AI does full damage with the weapons. I don't know why wiki says that. This is in contrast to ME2 where most were scaled down to around 70% or so.

This is why when Garrus hits something with the Javelin it usually dies.

don't know about the AI (enemies) - do they even use weapons& skills or just have a damage number ?
But your Squadmates/NPCs (that use skills/same weapond amge formula as sheppard) do only 30% damage (much worse than in ME2) when left to their own devices(test)

Garrus can get a perk that gives him *1.6 multiplicative with sniper rifles (0.3*1.6 is still *0.48) .. (I've also heard claims (Tangster) that NPCs can score head shots - that would explain how they can get 1 shot kills vs mooks without manual control) ...

When manually odered to attack NPCS get a 200% additive weapon damage bonus for 10 seconds .. During those 10 seconds garrus can 1 shot kill (body shot) even endgame HP buffed insanity mooks with widow V (is widow still more damaging than javelin on SP ?) ...Still I did prefered assault rifles vs snipers rifle weapons on NPCs because NPCs don't fire SRs all that often ...

@peddroelmz

Could you please explain how one orders a squad mate to attack a specific target? I pick a target I want them to use powers on. Does this count as ordering them to attack a target? I can't figure out how I could order them to just use their guns on a target without having them use a power.

I do not know what it is on PC, but on consoles, press up on the D-Pad.

I knew that ordered both squad mates to attack the same target. So does that mean I should have them use their power and then hit the up key? Or does just having them use their powers on a target count as ordering them to attack a specific target?

Game controls are a bit wacky in this game [one key do it all spacebar snafu ] (because of the console port) ...

I do keep squadmate powers autocast off - I assign their powers that I want to use  to the top left power shortcut bar ...

And I use squad  attack key (default Z on PC) to order them (both) to attack the same target and get the 200% damage for the next 10 seconds (again crappy interface - you cannot assign different targets to attack for each squad member ) ...

Enemy AI damage is based on AI defined base damage for AI weapons which then gets the multiplier in the difficulty handler, which is of course and X, Y affair so it scales with Shepard's level.

I had forgotten about the whonky squad bonus when ordered to attack. It is pretty stupid, but I am always using Q and E to manage the squad so it isn't a big deal for me. Q and E essentially function the same as Z as far as I am aware with the exception that if they are off cooldown they will use a power. If they are on cooldown it is essentially just an attack command.  I haven't really paid too much attention to the damage, but Garrus seems to do ok with the Javelin that way.

I always use the Falcon on all of my AR-wielding squadmates. Reason being that it's AMAZING when paired with squad cryo ammo. Plus, I mean..............it's fun.

Too bad you don't get it until the 2nd to last mission in the game...
