Though I'm not good at math, so I'd take any x > 1 for mind blown if BioWare can cheat the equation a bit.

Aside from the background of how the events of DA2 lead to the current state of the chantry, templar and mage factions they can leave the rest out.

Nope i enjoyed DA2 very much despite its flaws. Nothing would annoy me more than if DAI acted as if DA2 story & characters didn't exist.
Basically.
I loved the story, it was different, not your typical "save the world from obvious evil" story. DA:O was high fantasy, DA2 was low fantasy. I didn't like the game play mechanics much, reused environments etc and combat annoyed me but from what we've seen so far they're fixing that.

Yeah, I miss recycled environments and "press button and AWESOME happens" combat too tbh.

DA:I is going to be very interesting indeed, if only to see how they decide to approach things.

I still don't get the irrational hatred DA2 gets. After playing it 3 times with 3 different Hawkes (and restarting a fourth last night, playing the first 120 minutes or so of Act 1), I see some flaws and areas where Origins is superior, but it isn't a blight upon humanity like people on the BSN would have one believe. There are also places where DA2 is the better game. Rather important areas, in fact. I hope that more from DA2 is taken than ME3 took from ME2 (which wasn't much at all).
That said, I agree with Wulfram and Ophir147.
For me it's not that it's just bad (sorry, but I found it nothing but a dull, unintresting, slog from start to finish with the odd 30 min of decentness here and there), it's the fact that it's very detatched from an FRPG world.
Kung-fu, button bashing, 60 year old women with perfect bodies & fake boobs, dumbed down armour, emo-elves, etc. etc. it just didn't fit.
The way I look at DA:2 is like when Metallica did the Load and Re-Load albums - taking out the guitar solos and trying to sound more mainstream is just not Metallica, and BW did the same with Dragon Age. I mean, when has anyone played a FRPG in the hope they only have 1 selectable race?

Just make it more like origins with better graphics and combat and inventory. Not to much to ask for. more like DAO.

About dumbed down armour, you mean the customization, yes?

@spunkymonkey: Kung-fu wasn't present in DA2. If you're talking about the rogue animations, I'd say ninja skills.
About dumbed down armour, you mean the customization, yes?
Fair enough, but whatever it was it wasn't FRPG and was dowright out of place for being so OTT.
With the armour I mean the lack of customization and/or ability to change various armour sections.

A lot of the specifics are being discussed, but I was just wondering overall how much some of you want DA:I to tie in with DA:2?
6.02 X 10^23 molecules. That's how much DA2 I want.

Story: Apples and oranges. DAO was your typical "Save the world from certain disaster" kind of game. The scale was immense, and the focus of the game was on the world, not the characters in it. DA2 was not "dialed back," it was different. You weren't saving the world. Depending on your point of view, you may have been placing it in danger. It answered the question "How did it come to this?" It's whole point was to show how the current world state came about, and some people don't like this. I do. Very much, in fact. Do I want every game to be like that? Of course not. I don't want to save the world every week, either. DAI seems to be more of a "Save the world" kind of game, but I'm hoping there's still room for some of the more intimate, character-driven story lines, too.
Characters: I buy games for the characters. That's how important they are to me. Here, I think DA2 is the clear winner, at least in my opinion. DAO had three characters I liked (Alistair, Zevran, and Shale), and two I could tolerate (Sten and Morrigan). I disliked Wynne, Oghren, and Leliana intensely. Had the first three not been in the game, I would not have finished it the first time, let alone replayed it. In DA2, I loved everybody except Tallis. They weren't perfect. They reveled in their faults, and I love them for that. DA2 was the first game *ever* where I adored each and every female companion. I cannot stress enough how important this was to me. Each was a strong, well-written character, but they were all (subjectively) likable. Aveline was firm bordering on rigid, but she was loyal. Isabela had flexible morals, but she was supportive of the women around her, and brought out the best in them. And she was just plain fun. Merrill was stubborn, but she was sweet and kind, too. So, do I want to see characters like that again? Yeah, definitely. I never want to go back to Origins-style one-track characters who had nothing to say to you if you didn't suck up to them.
Character Interaction (with the PC): Here, it's a tie. I liked DAO's ability to talk to the characters anywhere at any time. They felt more accessible. I much, much prefer DA2's ability to disagree with the characters without ending the relationship. What I would not have given for the chance to tell Wynne to MYOB! So yeah, I liked the rivalry system.
Side Quests: DAO did it better. You should never pick up an item and magically know who it goes to and why.
Combat: Mixed bag. DA2 was too fast, and the rogue/warrior animations were laughable (15 feet into the air with a greatsword? Really?). Raining men... ugh. But DAO mage melee animations... no more Mystical Pool Cue of Glowy Inconvenience, thanks. It was fun to bash opponents over the head with a staff during cooldowns. And that's all I'm going to say about combat. I don't suck at it in either game, but it isn't why I'm playing.

Try taking off all of Wynne's clothes and you'll see that this isn't remotely unique to DA2 (and I resent the implications of "fake").60 year old women with perfect bodies & fake boobs

Please do not keep the darkspawn redesign. Even the intent behind it didn't fit.

Seriously. This is just a case of "Bioware body."
I want more DA2 than DAO in the combat, specifically the mage combat.
I'm not saying it was ideal, with all the dancing and spinning - and I'd like them to tone that down. But if I have to choose between the two? DA2, hands down. Magic was so much more satisfying than DAO.
I like the friendship/rivalry system more than approval/disapproval. I'd honestly prefer they bring something totally different than the two of them in, but if they don't, I'd want that to return.

But if there's any continuity with DA2, I hope either a save editor comes out quickly or they let me pick the big choices so I wont have to play DA2 again for the PC.
I had it on the console originally, it isn't good on the console.

What I want BioWare to learn from Dragon Age 2 (and to me they have done so with delaying the game a year) is not to rush it. I could say I want certain aspects from the game to be included, but if they don't make sense in the new game they would only hurt the game and not improve it.
Great shout. Give it to us a year late if it means it will be epic.

I'd like to forget that it ever existed, treat it like most people do with early TNG: it didn't happen.

That's my main worry with it - I don't want reminders of DA:2 to ruin the DA:I experience. It'd be like your new, stunning, dirty, loving, great-cooking GF talking about your ex in the middle of sex.
