I've often talked about it, but I don't know if it'd be a good idea. ME has always been a SP only franchise, it seems like a stab in the back to the franchise.
While I do agree that it would allow for a better MP, the same could be accomplished by giving the team on the next ME a longer development cycle and more resources to throw at the MP.
That being said, I would still buy it due to the fact that I've lost all faith in Bioware to make a good SP story.

I will buy both the SP for story and MP for the joy of instant battles.
As long as Bioware will keep it as a 3rd person shooter. If they go 1st person on it, i'm out!

In my opinion the mass effect trilogy was one of the best if not the best stories in RPG history so far, s.th. like that is not going to happen in a multiplayer focused game or at least it is highly unlikely.
and as has been repeatedly mentioned there are a ton of MMOs out there, which in my view aim to much on getting virtual items, either equipment or s.th. else to brag with even ingame... (s.th. which annoys me a lot).
The feature of respawning boss mobs or story related enemies have a rather awkward feeling but are necessary features in an MMO.
The idea of a story heavy single player campaign and a multiplayer coop game is not a bad one,
even though the multiplayer part could use some more variety as you have been suggesting especially in terms of maps (those could be more diverse in size, cover options, enemy spawns, background etc.) also enemies (however i dont like the mix of factions, as it was implemented in the platinum difficulty, that has a bit an awkward feeling too - except for rising the diffilculty level, which could have been also established diffrently - e.g. just more units at the same time).
The sheer number of diffrent weapons is ok as it is, even though i think that there are few with very similar mechanics, which could do with a change.

Well as long as you have the option to go 3rd person it is ok.
Keeping situational awareness on 1st person, while repeatedly combat rolling or cartwheeling through the environment
Even more interesting would be the dodge of the fury, slayer and cabal especially in a more diverse environment

While the idea is cool, im going to be honest:
I dont want mass effect to turn into a MP only game. I dont like MMOs tbh either

So, you want to play Battlefield in Space then?
The next game is using the same engine as BF4, Frostbite, I think.
Be careful what you wish for. For the most part, people who bought this game at launch did so because of its SP. Many didn't even bother with the MP, and only tried it to get their galactic readiness up, and like me, were pleasantly surprised. People tend to buy BF/CoD for the opposite reason...Why? Because the MP is waaay better than the SP, which isn't difficult, as it's quite **** because there isn't any real substance there.
If ME4 becomes a MP-focused game, or FPS, it might sell more copies - which is what EA will probably push for. It might be good, and you may well buy it. Just don't expect to give a f*ck about the story, characters etc and prepare yourself for playing with a horde of10 yr olds..

Like an mmo? Or the same as the mp for ME3?
As an mmo, yeah. As ME3, no.
But I rather have a new single player game than anything else. I'm ok with it having multiplayer as ME3 of course. I'm ok with it being either a prequel or sequel.
