I am using a 7.1 surround sound system with big speakers and for mic I use a bluetooth headset, the kind they sell for headphones. I thought this setup was OK, I hear the game sounds from the big speakers, while the voice of other players comes from the headset.
However, I was just told, that my mic makes awful loud echo of the game sounds for other players.
I checked the audio settings, I see 1 adjustable parameter, mic sensitivity level (or somehting along those lines) it was set to 5 by default. I do not know if setting that lower (like 1 or 2) would solve the problem or just reduce it ?
Does anybody else have similar setup and know the solution ?
What kind of headset do you guys use on the PS3 that works well ?
ps3 mic question

If your mic is too loud, lower the sensitivity.

I'm not sure if PSN has voice messages, but on Xbox I always record some audio on a message and replay it to test my mic. If that's an option I would suggest playing with your setting and just playing the audio back.
I use Turtle Beach X12's (for Xbox obviously), which luckly filter my mic's audio back into the headset.

I use the TV speakers when I play instead of surround sound. It will cut down on echoing and feedback.

Just turn down the volume on your surround sound/tv and you should be golden.
I use a bluetooth headset. But I play with my game on mute, so no one has ever made such a complaint.

What Climbs said would work, but if your mic is up too loud it'll make static even if you're in a room full of silence.
Turn down the sensitivity of your mic, and if you're still getting complaints even if it's on the lowest level, turn down your TV, and if THAT doesn't work, something is wrong with the headset.

I use the official playstation headset. (the old version, not the pulse one) Never heard of any complaints yet concerning my mic. I have my own issue with it though. People always assume that i have my mic on all the time because the speaker icon is always blue in the lobby even when it's muted. It sometimes make other mic users try to talk to me even if i don't want to. I just don't reply to them hoping they'll just assume i don't speak english.

Turn the sensitivity down and you can usually leave your surround sound up nice and loud. In the menu where you can change the settings there is a 'sound bar' that will move up and down when you talk into your mic. If it is going more than about halfway when you talk normally then your sensitivity is to high.

The ecks bawx has a problem with people using the kinect as a mic. It sounds like their head is in a toilet bowl and echos badly.
