Okay, some of us who really love this game and all the well-written characters in it are pretty sick of every time we turn around people bashing the characters, or one particular character, left and right.  The writers did an awesome job on DA of making these characters real and believable, flaws, morals, and emotions included.  If you have problems with the characters, try reading the books first. The books give you a better understanding of the characters and their backgrounds, especially Alistair, who is just like the young Maric, from his goofiness to his insecurities.

Anyway, I wanted to make a thread for everyone to express their apprecation for a job well done.  Negative people please stay away.  You have plenty of other threads to express your opinions.

*Hugs and kisses to all the writers of DA for an incredible job* Posted Image

I do think we sometimes forget that these characters are the product of someone's hard work. It's nice enough that they take the time to even post. With the amount of flack their work gets, I certainly wouldn't. As I have said in the past.

You think we don't appreciate the characters?

The fact that I can't stand Alistair so much is a testament to the writing.

Maybe it has already been done, but a ton more hate threads have popped up since and I feel that the writing team may just get overwhelmed by all the negativity sometimes.  It's always good for people to hear they've done a good job, not so much with all the flack all the time. Posted Image

And will be done  again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Then we will be close to showing the desered level of appreciation.

Hugs and chocolates and endless cookies to Mary, Sheryl and Jennifer.

A dignified handshake to DG. Somehow I think any spontaneous expressions of affection may alarm him.

Okay, well I won't defend Cammen.  Poor guy just wasn't too pretty to look at, was he? Posted Image

I bet the writers love the hate threads too -- it's not like anyone is saying they're badly written. It must be something seeing people love and hate your creations!  It must be something to see how much feeling your characters can evoke!

There wasn't a character that I didn't love (even Cammen if only because he provoked Morrigan/Oghren's banter about having to vomit), so kudos to the writing team.

Well, More love is good though, right? *hugs all characters/writers equally* I don't want to show any favoritism though. *gives Alistair and David a super-big hug* Umm, oops.

Heh.

When it comes to message boards, I'm lazy. It's easier - much easier - to talk about what I didn't like because there's so much less of it than what I did. I perhaps take for granted that the writers and developers "will just know" that I love the game they've made and the story and characters they've written, without me ever having to say exactly why.

I mean, in short, the "why" is because they made it, they wrote it and, together, they're BioWare.

I've been a fan of theirs for over a decade now (whoa!)because no other games developer has engendered in me that same, consistant sense of "belonging" that BioWare has. And I'm not talking about the community - I'd consider myself something of an outsider in that sense - but rather how, despite playing an ungodly number of games, it's only when I boot up a BioWare title that I'm guaranteed* to feel absolutely right at home. Whether it was in the Forgotten Realms, a galaxy far, far away, the Milky Way or Thedas, they've told great stories that I wanted to be involved in and given life to awesome characters that I've wanted to know.

The gameplay is never anything to sniff at, either. ;)

I'll clean up all this gushy stuff, now.

* Well, okay, the Sonic game wasn't really my thing. But I still finished it!

Jumping on board...

I'd like to say a giant "THANK YOU!" to everyone at BioWare involved in making DA:O the most captivating entertainment experience I've had in, well... ever.

And, to go with it, an especially big hug for the writers. The companion characters are wonderful, engrossing, complex creatures and I am impressed with every one of them.
