Loved poison and grenades/bombs! Used them often in both games. The salves were used somewhat sparingly. Once I got armor and accessories that added elemental protection, I just didn't find them that necessary.

In DA2, it was fun to stun or lock down the Arishok with Combustion Grenades or Tar bombs, and then go to town on him. ;)

I used them, when I remembered. I've saved my ass remembering them during a difficult encounter. I would like to use them more. I use them according to what I play though too. If I was a mage, I would use the salves, and things of magical nature. If I was a rogue I would use poisons, and traps. In DA2 I always forgot I had them. When I remembered though. I did use them.

I never use poisons and grenades in DA2. I tried poisoning my blade once in DAO but then forgot to do it. I think I collect acid flasks if I'm a rogue but they just collected and are never used.

I often used poisons and grenades, but sometimes I forgot I had them for at least a few hours worth of gameplay. I tend to use them more often in the beginning and then less frequently as the game advances.

EDIT: I never used Salves.

Because I don't recall ever having to use them all that much. They were always kind of there, never used. Should they return in Inquisition? If so, should they be given a slightly stronger effect to make them more viable, or no?

I think I used them once the very first time I fought the ogre at the top of the tower at Ostagar because my archer was on the ropes and I was scrabbling through my inventory for anything that would help.  Other than that, I never used them.  I even started losing those quests in Lothering that require them because I didn't want to waste points on them.

I only ever used bombs/grenades, but have to admit, I did not use them too often. I tended to set them up in my companions tactics, rather than my warden/Hawke using them. Hardly ever touched salves or poisons, or traps for that matter.

I liked poisons and coatings for the rogues and 2-handers. What they bring to the party is more DPS, and enhancing that makes them at least appear useful.

The only salve I typically bother with is Spirit salve for the Archdemon battle, Plus Fire protection for the High Dragons if I've found some. I certainly wouldn't make any.

Yes to all, though I used salves somewhat sparingly. Poisons and grenades were more useful in DA2 than in DAO.

In Origins I used Salves & Poisons occasionally. Never used grenades. Never for any in DA2.

I use spirit salves against the AD, and tier 1 poisons or grendades if I'm the rogue, otherwise not much else

nope. I tried using poisons once, its just annoying applying them every few seconds and remembering every fight. so I just stopped.

Maybe once or twice in probably 150-200 hours of playtime in DA:O and DA2...

Not a once.

Crafting so far has been entirely useless to me, both in Origins and DA2 (still have to get every recipe, though).

I typically get in the habit of wanting to save any special items (like salves or grenades) for particularly challenging encounters—and then I beat the game without ever having used them at all.

Ya have to agree the crafting in these games has been rather well basically non existent, hopefully we get told abit more about it in these up coming previews from GI or if not they've atleast looked at it an gave it a good overhaul

I used the poisons and grenades rarely. Remembering to use them was annoying. Sold all the salves - never used them, not once.

Short answer to the main idea of this thread: Yes. They were entirely superfluous.

In DA:O, yes, plenty. In DA2, never.
