How the **** is Jacob in any way stereotypical? As a black man such patronization is just as offensive. Jacob keeping some semblance of URBAN dialect makes him a much more believable character. Same wity James in juxtaposition to Steve. You wouldn't be able to tell if Cortez was even Latino if not for his banter with Vega, blue eyes or not. Nothing wrong with a character being a representation to their culture. I'd prefer Mr. Bhatia actually be Indian than just another Anglcised NPC, with all due respect.

And really, the stereotype also includes poor sentence structure. I think people are hearing the tone of voice and immediately start jumping from one foot to the next.

His power set in the Citadel arena has 3 biotic powers out of 4 (the last containing his ammo power). He's a biotic.

Jacob is basically half-assed Vanguard (I think Jack might've been intended as such too. Although she makes sense as an Adept too). I guess it was too much trouble to incorporate charge for squad members, so they centered shooting power on pull and ammo powers instead. I think if they were like Shep, Jack would be a Destroyer (naturally) and Jacob a Champion (more barrier and health based).

I don't know Jacob's history, but Earth isn't in a golden age during Shepard's childhood, if Earthborn. They wrote it as a tough place to grow up. Of course, he was a streetkid to begin with, but the fact that it taught him survival skills is saying something. And if you talk to Anoleis in ME1, he remarks on if you're Earthborn, and makes fun of you for it (how Earth is basically a cesspool).
As for dialect, that's unpredictable. You never know how languages and even just slang will catch on or die off.

The government pays education, and any kid "on the streets," will be in prison going to school. Even today. I doubt that will change as society advances. Also Earth is the best it has ever been, long before Shepard was born. Mass Effect technology was discovered and Shepard grew up, I doubt things just flip-flopped all of the sudden. If it wasn't so bad, there wouldn't be so many colonies. For the most part, people don't put themselves through things like that for the fun of it, but for the hopes of something better (of course, they usually don't run into anything better either). They're better off than most races, but compared to a Salarian or the other council races, I doubt it. Mass Effect technology only enabled them to expand. If they didn't have that, then it'd really be a mess, like Thane's world.
I think there's a reason why Shepard is stupid enough to automatically assume he can relate to Wrex and the genophage. He comes from a victimized mindset. I think that's a big premise of the setting. That humanity is only crawling out of the hole, only on the brink of great possibilities. But they're not there yet. This story takes place right at the moment in humanity's history where it's at a crossroads. And the powers that be keep demanding you keep on giving.
Hmm, I'm getting off the subject. Back to Jacob.

Wut? There are a lot of colonies because there are a lot of people. Look at the drell, who had even less numbers than we did. They killed their planet. Earth can't support over 11 billion people on it's own. It's barely supporting us now at a little over 7 billion.

I don't understand. Are you contradicting me somewhere? Because it sounds you're just saying what I did.
Population is related to quality of life. Those first colonies were to escape to something better. And it's been a hard road since then. It's only now in the past few years that the colonies are finally paying off and it's trickling back to the homeworld. It's a different story for someone growing up on Earth in the previous 50 years.
That's what the codex says at least. "Earth, the homeworld and capital of humanity, was enjoying a new golden age before the Reapers attacked. Disease, pollution, and other social ills were on the decline
thanks to technological advances and a wealth of resources from the
colonies."

I don't see why you're disputing any of this though. What is compelling you to say Earth was in good shape? I'm not interested in an argument, like it's some hot button issue. I'm honestly curious, because it's lost on me. If you have info, I'm willing to update my thoughts. My whole impression of the series since I first played was that humanity was struggling. Definitely not Star Trek at least, where the story picks up right in the middle of it's Golden Age.

This is ridiculous, and personally I find this a bit offensive. However well funded or cultured a society is has no bearing on someone's accent, unless you can think of a reason why. Coming from someone who has heard and experienced both urban and southern accents, I can tell you that in my personal experience, the more funding the schoools get early, the less the accents show. But that's just my personal experience. This is ridiculous, and personally I find this a bit offensive. However well funded or cultured a society is has no bearing on someone's accent, unless you can think of a reason why. This is along the same lines as prejudices against those with southern accents for the same reason. And really, what is this "urban accent" stuff anyway. That sounds like some kind of cockamamie claptrap Ann Coulter would come up with.
