I don't see anything wrong with how he talks, he doesn't sound like he's out of the ghetto or anything.
Nothing wrong with ghetto talk.<_<
I just meant I don't think he talks stereotypically. >.>

I'm pretty much the same. He's one of the few characters I wouldn't run a mile from if he was real. I can understand a dislike if you romanced him then found out he cheated on you but as a MaleShep player none of that side of him was apparent. As has been said, just less interesting than the rest, which would be good in reality but makes a less interesting fictional character. I'd be happy to have a beer with him, which is more than I can say for some of them.Fixers0 wrote...
I never really got the hate for Jacob, or the fact that people are trying to make fun of him, on the contrary he comes over to me as the most "normal" and level headed companion of Mass Effect 2, he has issues of course, but compared to some of the characters, he's pretty reasonable.

Jacob's a bit on the "normal" side, but I still like him. It helps to have a grounded character. He's more interesting than Kaidan, I guess, for stirring up things in the Alliance and having a slightly more rebellious attitude. Also, Kaidan looks like a metrosexual Elvis impersonator. Which is kind of annoying.
Look at this you will agree with that statement even more.

He's not a bad character, as far as I'm concerned, he's just over shadowed by a whole bunch of much better ones.
Also, I don't think the writers really knew what to do with him. They wanted another Cerberus character alongside Miranda that was a little more sympathetic but they didn't invest enough into it. He's sort of jumbled and made up of a few too many unerdeveloped ideas. Traumatic experiences at Eden Prime, a drive to do good but not finding it in the Alliance, some concerns over Cerberus, pride in his work, an absent father; there's a lack of definition to make him stand out. Compare him to Thane, who has a clearly defined character and background.
Pretty much this

Anyway the problem with Jacob is, seemingly after the beginning, they just sort of dropped him. He barely speaks and closes up. Why this happens is beyond me, look at Vega for example, who basically boils down to "Alliance grunt" yet is incredibly interesting and well written.
Jacob is like the fallen Alliance who is a bit lost, they had many ways they could have taken his story or made him interesting. He's also a nice guy who would risk his life to protect others, another good trait about him that they could have spun. Instead he's just, well, dull. And how no one at Bioware saw the borderline racist undertones of making him run away and knock up a woman at the first chance he got is beyond me. Making him cheat on FemShep was a terrible, terrible decision.

"Commander, drive core just lit up like a christmas tree!"
"Let's finish these metal-bastards!"
"GRAVITY'S ONE MEAN MOTHER, HUH??"
Nobody talks like that normally. It's forced swagger, which you won't see out of a character of any other ethnicity. LOL!

Like I say with many other faults, I'm just going to go with "Bioware is Canadian. Nice people. Just don't know any better."
Wait, that might be sort of racist too.

Not really. I don't hear other Mass Effect characters using cliched catch-phrases or trite metaphors like Jacob does.
BUT THE PRIIIIZE.
WE LIIIVE. WE GET LOUDDD! SPILL DRINKS ON THE CITADEL!!!
Not to say we'll go out and have a beer when this is done, we're going to "spill drinks" on the Citadel. WTF?

I don't hold anything against him for cheating on Shepard because that never happened to me personally, so I'm not going to go blaming him for something his evil alternate universe counterpart did. There are alternate versions of Wrex & Legion who flat out try to kill Shepard, but I don't hold that against them either.

That's not true though - the alternative choices show what Jacob would have done if he had been in that situation, whereas an "evil alternate universe counterpart" would have acted differently in the *same* situation.don't hold anything against him for cheating on Shepard because that never happened to me personally, so I'm not going to go blaming him for something his evil alternate universe counterpart did.
If Alice would strangle a kitten given the chance then that does say something about her character regardless of whether she actually comes across any kittens to kill.

Very true, but you'll see long debates about this in other threads, because some posters don't like the idea of (insert character) doing what they did.

I never tried his romance, but I know what happens, and you know what? I strangely like that at least one LI doesn't just keep Shepard at the centre of their universe. I mean, it's still kind of dickish, but hey.

To me, the reason I don’t like him is: he never gives you anything more than cliff notes about himself. And yeah, I real life there are people who don’t talk much about themselves. But this is a video game. Evan ice queen Miranda and miss ‘I have trust issues a mile long.’ Jack tell you about themselves: if you make the effort.
But Jacob?
He gives you hints of some of the things he’s done… but nothing more behind: I was a…..
And even if you do become friends with him, it’s mainly adds up too: let’s get drinks! You never get the feeling you connect with him as you do with the other characters. This point feels more like collouges after work.
Hell, I even feel more for Liara and I hate her.
As for the romance….. the less said the better…
