Mostly it is. An elf, a human and a qunari don't all speak the same.

Actually it's more tied to region and social status.Tell that to the French Elf in Origins

Why are there no English elves then?

All voices, male and female, will be done by Patrick Stewart.

Semi-confirmed rumor.

As long as there is a Terri Brosius DLC.

The Warden had no voice and every single one of the others had American accents.

...which still proves the point Elves don't have a certain voice just because they're elves no?

For example Fenris. Distinct accent, clearly doesn't sound like the elves from Fereldan or Kirkwall.

What? They have an American accent because they are elves. Fenris is from Tevinter, he's not from Ferelden or Kirkwall.

Yet he sounds British not Welsh or American.

Ergo the Elves accent is region specific just like humans.

Fenris would sound far closer to Tevinter humans than Fereldan elves. That's what I mean. Region affects accent more than race.

Not to mention did the DE clan all have Welsh accents in DAO? I can recall some american ones but it's been a while since I played that origin. And not only that but comparing Merrill's clan accents to Zatherine's...and yeah.

...

BioWare made a whole elven companion with a British accent AND a baritone, along with a sultry and British sounding sister, and people STILL use the "Elves can only have lighter voices and American accents" argument? Good grief. Selective memory loss at its finest.

The Tevinter elf who helped Caladrius enslave the Dennirim alienage elves also sounded American. So did Alarith, the elf who escaped slavery in Tevinter. The only American sounding Dalish elf in DA 2 as Pol, who was a city elf who joined the Sabrae Clan in Origins. He was the only Dalish elf that wasn't recast.

I would be surprised if Bioware overly compromised by giving us the same VO from every race. I doubt they would have decided to do all the races if they couldn't lock down unique VO for each one, otherwise, I like to think they wouldn't commit to it.

The accent being the biggest retcon that would have take place if they went with the same VO. Maybe not retcon, but they would have to write it in and it would have to be a special case for each race having Fereldan/Free Marches accents...

Edit

Merrill CLEARLY doesn't sound American. (Neither does her clan in DA2)

Other Dalish clans do. (I.E. Zatherine's)

both clans were in fereldan.

Come on now.

Race doesn't give them a uniform accent. (also there were NO american sounding humans? I find that hard to believe). There's nothing that even SUGGESTS this is the case whatsoever. Why would elves be any different than humans in this aspect. You really think if there was such a obvious difference in speech this wouldn't have been highlighted?

Simply have them be from the same region problem solved.

I don't think so. All the American Dalish elves we saw in Origins were retconed into sounding Welsh, Irish or Scottish in DA 2. I don't think the other clans we haven't seen are supposed to be any different.

I think there have been a grand total of three American sounding humans. Wynne, Genetivi and Viveka. They are rare enough that I don't think they can be considered part of a trend.

... Your two Tevinter elves were both in DA:O, which was before the accent Ret-con of DA2.

All Dalish elves had American accents in Origins too, but that obviously changed in DA2.

It would still have to be a retcon, surface dwarves and city elves from Fereldan/Free Marches in both games have had north amercian accents.

@Arcane Warrior Mage Hawke You have a point, if the elf origin was not raised in an alienage like Zevran, it would let the english accent slip by.

That still leaves the issue of dwarves though.
