Man, this one really gets a bad rap. I played through it for a second time today and loved it. It's easily the best reason to join the Wardens, and most of the meat of it is exposed through dialogue, rather than combat. If you absorb all the lore in this origin, it has a lot to offer. Definitely should not be rated last consistently by everyone.
I first played it after seeing everyone hating on it and was very pleasantly surprised. I love the lore aspects of it.

Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with hacking and revenge, I liked the others too, but this was my favourite.

He deserved a death scene where the PC was kicking him repeatedly in the face until his/her companions pulled said PC away by force. And the PC should escape at least once for a bonus kick.BeckShort wrote...
Eh, that part was underwhelming. Howe deserved a unique finishing move. The conversation leading up to the fight was great, though. He's a cold SOB.

So you agree with Howe's dying words? That he deserved more? Ironic.
Really I don't see what was so bad about the Dalish origin in comparison to the others. It was okay, not my favorite. The main beef I had with it was the fact that you couldn't return to your clan in game. I want my in game closure dammit! So far the only origin I haven't played yet is City Elf, and I haven't duplicated origins yet. If it really is as aweseome as people claim, it will be a great finish to my six playthrough back to back run. Then again, if it turns out to be overrated, I will be back to rant on this very forum, so be warned! :innocent:

on the origin itself...its one of my favourites... (Mage is No. 1 tho), and its mostly cos of all the emotion it builds through your interaction with your clan-mates... who very clearly all love you, and Tamlen, and want the absoloute best for you as well. their evident grief at Tamlen's death, and your departure makes it even more poignant.
Also, i would probably pick the Dalish Elf as perhaps the youngest of the Origins as well. I feel that all but the Dwarf Noble should be <20... and the Dalish, judging by Tamlen's voice and actions (him being either your best-friend or your all-but-betrothed) seems younger than all the others.

I played through this origin story for the first time yesterday, and enjoyed it. But I think the character's complete lack of options will diminish the tension of the joining and what happens to Jory and Daveth.
I liked that this was the one character who could safely use all the non-nice lines when talking to Jory and Daveth. My dalish wanted to do the joining as soon as possible, was not interested in any conspiracy theories. If she had the option she would have been the first to take the cup.

It was fun to get a glimpse into the elf lore and start outside of regular, rigid society, but losing your buddy you know for all of "touching a mirror no matter how many times you tell him it's just an evil plot device" doesn't have the same impact as losing your parents and nephew and friends, being tricked into murdering your brother, or seeing a handful of your closest loved ones raped and killed.
Playing a Dalish was a little awkward for me. They felt very aloof the entire time, and while it led to some interesting outcomes, it was all kind of just... meh?
(To be fair, though, the dwarf commoner origin isn't much better.

I don't think there's any difference in that between this origin and the rest.

I think it's also up to each person, how they approach the stories, knowing that there each different and give a different out look on the whole thing.

But putting that aside, I really like the extra dialogue options you get as a Dalish. Like how your Dalish tells Alistair that your people plant a tree over the grave, so that new life may spring forth from death, after Alistair asks how the Dalish bury their dead. Or when Leliana mentions the song that a wise old elven woman sang to her when her mother died and that one day we must shed our earthly bodies to fly free, you could mention that a member of your clan used to say the same thing and she says, "Then perhaps you know this song." It's little touches like that that make me feel more connected to my Dalish despite the origin's lack of ties with the main plot.

They're all good (although the mage one is questionable) but this one hits me just right.

oh no hes not.... i wouldn't want to spoil it for you too badly... but just the words... ...camp...shriek ambush...blight plague...late game
I can read between the lines, is he in or with the camp ambush? I've played my Dailish guy to the end of the game so I've gone past that point. Is there something I didn't do or did Sten or someone just kill him before I could talk to him?
