Man, this one really gets a bad rap.  I played through it for a second time today and loved it.  It's easily the best reason to join the Wardens, and most of the meat of it is exposed through dialogue, rather than combat.  If you absorb all the lore in this origin, it has a lot to offer.  Definitely should not be rated last consistently by everyone.

I <3 the Dalish origin - this is my canon origin for sure.

I agree. Not to mention the dungeon is the most extensive and the items it spawns are worth it. i mean what other origin do you know that can give you a Saw sword, full studded leather set, and a DP Longsword and dagger all in one run.(Of course it depends on luck, I have gotten Tevinter shields, scale armors and stuff.) The most rewarding for Rogues.

The only other story I like besides this one is City Elf, seems really badass. especial with violent voice option.

Tamlen was a bit annoying though right ?... Atleast I thought so. (He just had to touch that mirror and ruin the rest of my life)... Dalish was my first playthrough and it was fun I don't know why everyone doesn't seem to like it. I like it when you see Tamlen at camp all corrupted.

Meh, I prefer the human noble origin. I just LOVE wiping the smirk off of Arl Howe's face later in the game >=)

Eh, that part was underwhelming. Howe deserved a unique finishing move. The conversation leading up to the fight was great, though. He's a cold SOB.

QFT.

I first played it after seeing everyone hating on it and was very pleasantly surprised. I love the lore aspects of it.

Yep, not all of us hate it. An origin that's about history and lore and gives a genuine reason to want to destroy the darkspawn and the blight even before Ostagar? Gotta love it. A thinking person's origin instead of just a 'let's hack stuff up and get revenge on X' origin.

Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with hacking and revenge, I liked the others too, but this was my favourite.

He deserved a death scene where the PC was kicking him repeatedly in the face until his/her companions pulled said PC away by force.  And the PC should escape at least once for a bonus kick.

So you agree with Howe's dying words?  That he deserved more?  Ironic.

Really I don't see what was so bad about the Dalish origin in comparison to the others.  It was okay, not my favorite.  The main beef I had with it was the fact that you couldn't return to your clan in game.  I want my in game closure dammit!  So far the only origin I haven't played yet is City Elf, and I haven't duplicated origins yet.  If it really is as aweseome as people claim, it will be a great finish to my six playthrough back to back run.  Then again, if it turns out to be overrated, I will be back to rant on this very forum, so be warned!  :innocent:

I played through this origin story for the first time yesterday, and enjoyed it. But I think the character's complete lack of options will diminish the tension of the joining and what happens to Jory and Daveth.

i think the Joining makes so much more practical sense when you HAVE to undertake it. all the other origins are duped into the Joining, only the Dalish gets so much information about the Joining...a Dalish knows that the Joining is its cure. I suspect that you could also say that statistically speaking (and not plot device required) the Dalish, tainted already, is all-bit guaranteed to survive, since he/she did so already.

on the origin itself...its one of my favourites... (Mage is No. 1 tho), and its mostly cos of all the emotion it builds through your interaction with your clan-mates... who very clearly all love you, and Tamlen, and want the absoloute best for you as well. their evident grief at Tamlen's death, and your departure makes it even more poignant.

Also, i would probably pick the Dalish Elf as perhaps the youngest of the Origins as well. I feel that all but the Dwarf Noble should be <20... and the Dalish, judging by Tamlen's voice and actions (him being either your best-friend or your all-but-betrothed) seems younger than all the others.

I liked that this was the one character who could safely use all the non-nice lines when talking to Jory and Daveth. My dalish wanted to do the joining as soon as possible, was not interested in any conspiracy theories. If she had the option she would have been the first to take the cup.

I know I voted it last, but really, it's not a bad origin at all. It just felt absurdly... short, to me. I did talk to everyone, sang songs with the old man and listened to the story about the craftsman's bow, but it just didn't feel very moving in the end... y'know? All of the other origins (except if you choose to tattle on Jowan as mage, that one's just awkward) have this really ominous feeling of never, ever going home. The Dalish PC has to leave their clan, but aside from Tamlen, everyone is totally fine and time constraints of the Blight are the only thing keeping you from going back and visiting them.

It was fun to get a glimpse into the elf lore and start outside of regular, rigid society, but losing your buddy you know for all of "touching a mirror no matter how many times you tell him it's just an evil plot device" doesn't have the same impact as losing your parents and nephew and friends, being tricked into murdering your brother, or seeing a handful of your closest loved ones raped and killed.

Playing a Dalish was a little awkward for me. They felt very aloof the entire time, and while it led to some interesting outcomes, it was all kind of just... meh?

(To be fair, though, the dwarf commoner origin isn't much better. ;) )

You can chose to fight going if you want - as a Dalish elf, you can force Duncan to use the Right of Conscription on you, to which he replies that he will drag you kicking and screaming to Ostagar if he has to.

I don't think there's any difference in that between this origin and the rest.

The Dalish origin is by far my favorite, I just started playing it for the second time. I felt far more attached to the NPCs in the Dalish origin than to the NPCS in any other origin, and throughout the majority of my first playthrough I spent obsessing over when Tamlen was going to reapear again (I didn't think he was dead) and if my character would ever get to see heer clan again. Although I was kinda disapointed when the whole clan didn't show up at the end.

Each story beginning, is special. Yes I love playing the Dalish Elf the best, but I'm willing to try the others, and so far, I find them well done also.

I think it's also up to each person, how they approach the stories, knowing that there each different and give a different out look on the whole thing.

Glad to see that there are other people who also loved the Dalish origin. ^_^ Yes, I was quite sad to see that there's not enough love for this origin. As much as I love the Dalish, I could see why others would mark this as their least favorite. I, too, was hoping that I would get to see my clan again somewhere in the middle or the end of the game.

But putting that aside, I really like the extra dialogue options you get as a Dalish. Like how your Dalish tells Alistair that your people plant a tree over the grave, so that new life may spring forth from death, after Alistair asks how the Dalish bury their dead. Or when Leliana mentions the song that a wise old elven woman sang to her when her mother died and that one day we must shed our earthly bodies to fly free, you could mention that a member of your clan used to say the same thing and she says, "Then perhaps you know this song." It's little touches like that that make me feel more connected to my Dalish despite the origin's lack of ties with the main plot.

This is definitely my favorite origin. The sense of a lost past really resonates with me (might have something to do with being a historian myself), and then the final leaving home scene is deeply touching. When the PC turns to look back at the gathered clan one last time, then looks down briefly before turning to walk away, I could feel the emotion more acutely than with any other origin.

They're all good (although the mage one is questionable) but this one hits me just right.

mage hits you questionable because it forces you into bad forced decisions (emphasis on forced) like, betraying Jowan. I <3 Jowan, i liek teasing him

I can read between the lines, is he in or with the camp ambush? I've played my Dailish guy to the end of the game so I've gone past that point. Is there something I didn't do or did Sten or someone just kill him before I could talk to him?
