+1

+ another 1

I seriously can't believe that mindless garbage is beating Mass Effect.

I completely follow you and I'm rooting for Mass Effect to win, but I don't think we can seriously complain if GTA comes out on top here. After all, we're talking about games here, and that means different things to different people. To some, it's about stories and immersion and interesting settings, to others it's simply about having fun, good gameplay that keeps you hooked for hours, freedom to play in a variety of ways (haven't played GTA since I was a kid with a PlayStation and many hours to kill). The second interpretation is as valid as the first.

When I first started out gaming, I just wanted a bit of fun, so I loved things like GTA. But now, what I appreciate the most is good stories/characters/writing, deep lore and emotional attachment. so at the moment, for me, nothing can beat the Mass Effects/Dragon Ages/The Walking Deads.

What I find interesting and HAPPY about is that 3 of the 4 are RPGs and GTA is arguably close to the RPG definition...

lol all you people being all pissy about GTA winning this. Like it or not, GTA has done way more for the industry than Mass Effect ever did. Mass Effect were great games of course, but they don't hold a candle to GTA on most areas. I'd even argue that the writing in GTA is way better and more believable than in Mass Effect.

I would almost agree with every word.

But when it competes with a series that pissed on my emotional involvement, and retroactively ruined any replayability of the first two games (for me), I'll vote GTA every time.

But that's just me, and MANY are happy/ecstatic/satisfied with the Mass Effect series. Just how many of those vote on Gamespot will decide its fate.

ME did good. But GTA was just too much. The only two franchises that it could lose were that one and TES.

I'm not sure I agree as GTA IV felt like a massive step backwards after the awesomness of San Andreas. Although the GTA games define the genre of sandbox and consistently nail humour and drama in the right places, the Mass Effect series has really pushed choice and consequence to unmatched levels and developed the cinematic conversation wheel into an rpg model.

That doesn't surprise me, Elder Scrolls isn't as "deep" as fallout, but GTA IV was a complete bore.

This I agree with, but I love SA too much to even let Ithe disappointment of IV drag down my opinion of the franchise.

Indeed. Choices that amount to nothing, or at least very little, aren't unmatchable.

I feel that there is an element of letting the ending of ME3 spoil what is otherwise an almost seamless experience between games in this argument. I know of no other game series which has the same number of variables across multiple titles to create an individually tailored story, from large plot influencing stories like the genophage arc, to smaller and more personal cameos from previously encountered characters. While I agree that it isn't unmatchable, I stand by my statement that so far it remains unmatched.

You'll have to point out the part where I was whining. By my recollection, I'm perfectly fine with GTA beating ME, even if I personally voted for ME over GTA.
