lol all you people being all pissy about GTA winning this. Like it or not, GTA has done way more for the industry than Mass Effect ever did. Mass Effect were great games of course, but they don't hold a candle to GTA on most areas. I'd even argue that the writing in GTA is way better and more believable than in Mass Effect.

I'm not sure I agree as GTA IV felt like a massive step backwards after the awesomness of San Andreas. Although the GTA games define the genre of sandbox and consistently nail humour and drama in the right places, the Mass Effect series has really pushed choice and consequence to unmatched levels and developed the cinematic conversation wheel into an rpg model.

I disagree with the bolded part

Indeed. Choices that amount to nothing, or at least very little, aren't unmatchable.

I feel that there is an element of letting the ending of ME3 spoil what is otherwise an almost seamless experience between games in this argument.

I couldn't care less about the ending. It never bothered me as much as some other people. The game is flawed in the choice & consequence department long before you even get to the end of the series. Considering its flaws of choices amounting to pretty much nothing, very surface level consequence when it comes down to it, I don't find its choice and consequence all that unmatched. Maybe all the variables BioWare had to account for was too ambitious a goal. I can find more meaningful choice and consequence in other games. Like Persona 4, or MyCAREER mode in NBA 2K13.

Glad you took a break from your endless whining to respond to my post. I'm honored.

You'll have to point out the part where I was whining. By my recollection, I'm perfectly fine with GTA beating ME, even if I personally voted for ME over GTA.

You weren't whining in here. Sorry if you read it like I was accusing you of that. Credit where credit is due and all that. I was mostly talking about pretty much every single other post of yours I've ever read on here. So it's good to see you change it up a little.

By the way, it's pretty lame how TES seems to be winning this. Not deserved at all.

Define "whining". Then find a post where I was "whining".

I'm disappointed that the Elder Scrolls made it to the final, but not surprised. The poll is after all, a popularity contest.

I'd rank Elder Scrolls as the most overrated series of the last decade.

Hell, I'm 36. I still think GTA is still better. Mass Effect has a lot of great ideas, but it left me confused and with more questions. Don't know what to think about it now. I think it needs another game now just to complete the last one. Even out of this decade, Bioware has better series imo.

The elder scrolls game last decade were: Morrowind(Amazing) and Oblivion(Good).
The GTA games last decade were: 3(Good), Vice city(Amazing), San andreas(Amazing) and IV(Good).
Fallout: Fallout 3(Meh) and Fallout NV(Gets my vote for best writing of the last decade).

It's a popularity contest. Doesn't take quality into account.

I agree. ME didn't deserve to win. Elder Scrolls is an amazing series. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE ME (I've played the series like 5 complete times). But it really can't compare to Elder Scrolls. A big reason is modding. Modding has been apart of the TES series for a long time. You can download Skyrim right now, mod it up and get a completely different game.

The biggest issue I had with ME3 was lack of choice. I mean, it's a railroad shooter/RPG I get that. But ME3 was a lot tougher with what choices you had than any of the previous games. You got the same outcome every time.

Now story/lore wise I would've voted for ME (despite the lack of freedom and modding) if the ending of ME3 were different. I had to harp on the endings.. but it REALLY does let the whole story down. Just a big clunk.

So in my head the final four would've been TES, ME, Fallout, Half Life and Assassian Creed, then GTA.

This.

Both The Elder Scrolls and GTA are two of the most overrated game series ever, but out of them two I believe TES deserved to win more.

One of the reasons is written above and even extended to both Morrowind and Oblivion.

Another reason is that Skyrim runs far better on (my) PC than GTA IV, the latter one being unplayable.

I do have to say that I found the GTA III games pretty fun and all, but I didn't found them as immersive as TES III, IV AND V, and didn't get the same amount of playtime by me.

That's the third reason, but being more 'IMHO': even though a lot of people apparently don't agree, I found the Elder Scrolls games highly immersive, even in their vanilla form. The worlds seem so 'alive', for the lack of a better explanation. Even though all the storylines are pretty average (Morrowind's main quest and it's addons are nice though, but even Morrowind has a lot of uninspired side quests), the worlds draw me in.
But that's personal ofcourse.

So overally the Elder Scrolls games are better than the Grand Theft Auto games. If it really was a popularity contest the winner would have been Call of Duty, and TES would not have won from GTA.

This had to happen. Against TES and GTA, Mass Effect is like a footnote in gaming.

Also gotta add that, as disappointing as GTA IV was, it never touched the disappointment I felt playing ME3.

hmm the two most overrated game series finished at the two first place.. not a surprise...
And it is disgusting who easly GTA beaten the Arkham series... GTA is a good game cuz you can do a lot of thing in it but as a TPS or Simulator you wouldn't be able to sell it... it's execution is mediocre
