I don't like them.

I'm used to elves being prettier than humans.

You can probably make some attractive elves.

Besides, why does everything have to be like in other fantasy settings? I quite like the differing from the traditional medieval/fantasy things.

You just sound shallow when you say you don't like someone because they aren't "pretty enough"

Elves have some different features than humans, that make them more pretty and exotic, it's like a stereotype. Dragon Age moves away from that maybe, but then you have humans with pointy ears. I'll have to see them in game to say exactly if i finally like them for sure, but that image in the OP's post is not to my liking.

As for me being shallow or not, you never asked me about a specific person, but how a race is depicted. That's how elves are. Typically pretty. Can you depict them differently, maybe wild and ferocious like WoW's night elves? Be my guest, i'm up for that. But at least they look different than humans. DA elves? Not really. So far...

I get what you're saying, but why you are bringing this up now as this is a first i don't quite get.

It's not like the elves in Origins looked that different from humans.

The major difference is their culture, and the way they're viewed by other people.

Not sure if i misunderstood you, just sounded like your entire reasoning for not liking them was that they aren't pretty enough.

Well, they look just like every other elf. So I guess that's good.

Well, if you ask me if i like them compared to previous DA games, then i will probably say that they don't look bad.

Now if i like them in general, as we see them in DA, eh, i'm not really thrilled about them to be honest.

Distinctively prettier, is a way to distinguish them as the "fairer race". It might sound shallow, but in almost every fantasy setting out there, that's how Elves are typically. In DA however, i find myself liking the human face structure more. Maybe it's just me.

I'm not sure if i'm coming across 100%, but no, it's not the prettyness itself. It's distinction from humans, which i find small, in DA in general. So i'll just leave it at that.

There is also the chance that when i see them in game, i will notice a great distinction i can't see now. So i'll wait till the final product.

Also like i said, you can make them beautiful if you want.

I know, you can make every character pretty if you want.

see I'm conflicted on one hand I enjoy killing elves simply because other people like them and think they are cute and wonderful loving noble creatures.

on the other dragon age O and 2 made them appear weak and pathetic and I sot of felt siding with the werewolves was almost a bad thing.

seeing that everybody likes them and they appear to be less pathetic, this makes me want to kill them again. decisions decisions!

I like that it's not a typical "The elfs are the superior race! Bow to the beautiful overlords that live for centuries!"

The fact that the elves are considered lower than the humans in Thedas has always really intrigued me. It's different from anything i've seen.

That said, i can totally see your point about there not being that much distinction.

Well, I don't know if they are prettier than humans, but they most certainly are viewed as being physically attractive and beautiful by humans. We as players may not think so, but in Thedas elves are darn hot. Leliana and Zevran talk a bit about this, but I managed to find a single codex example where they mention it: Codex Entry: Aravels (from a Non-Dalish warden perspective). Brother Genitivi does say "Certainly most humans would agree that the halla are as beautiful as the elves themselves". Soo, yeah, the elves are actually kind of hot ;)

I wouldn't say that more that given that elves are seen as better people then humans generally if find there very existence to be pretentious.

But... elves are fictional. The perception of elves as "superior" is humanity's own fault.

Im really hoping we have the chance to eradicate the Dalish once and for all. In the trailer the Inquisition was raiding a grey warden keep. Hers hoping we can storm a Dalish base or destroy whats left of their history.

Or, to put it another way, elves are as sexy as deer.

Of course, they are sexy beasts ;) Raaarrrrr

Or to put it another way - the deer is as sexy as the elves. How many humans can pull that off, eh? But you get the idea, Genitivi is clearly implying that most humans think elves are beautiful.

I'm pretty sure Bioware's not gonna let you commit genocide. The eradication of the Dalish is just too big a variable.

Not genocide. Just destroying their culture or at least doing some serious damage(since were visiting the Dales). Either way im hoping we gget to do some pretty f*cked up things to the elves in the game. Similar to screwing over the Krogan and geth/Quarians in ME3.

Since you could side with the Werewolves in Origins, I don't see why we wouldn't be able to mess up the elves. It should be a valid choice for any inquisitor, even an elvish one.

there's no perception its how the race were created and intended to portrayed, its the whole intent of their existence. its to put across the idea that there is something fundamentally flawed with humanity. slaughtering them is metaphorically rejecting such ideology.

The Witcher series has a very similar concept of elves, you might like that.
