Got to say, the drawfs actually look pretty good too. Not as pretty as good as the elf or human, but also much of an improvement.

I like the elves. I've always played as an Elf, and am going to again in DAI.
But that human female... looks so. Ridiculously. Badass. Hope we can get an elf to look similar, because I'm lovin' those chiseled features.
Indeed, the elves are a dramatic improvement over DA2's elves.
Hopefully these will show up in DA:I as either the default faces or some of the presets.

They changed the style after DAO to give the series a more distinctive look, but there have now been three distinct looks in as many games, there's no single "Dragon Age" style at all so far and it's not doing them any favours in my opinion.

Yeah, they look great. I'm personally looking forward to how they'll be portrayed culturally and socio-economically in Inquisition. The upcoming novel implies that there is or will be mass elven uprisings in Orlais, and we'll get increased reactivity thanks to the race selections. I hope we get to discuss more of the elven plight with companions a la Fenris and Merrill in DA2, and actually get to explore said discussions unlike in DA2 (which kind of glossed over them.)
And for God's sake, I hope the city elves' aren't just nameless fanatics like they were in DA2.

I like that the male elf is smiling, unlike every other race/gender combo.
I like his expression too

Oh, this thread is just about the elves' appearance?

I too am really looking forward to learning more about their culture and plight, and what their future holds. Mr. Laidlaw mentioned in the "playable races" GI video that befriending elven servants, etc., as a brother or sister will be a unique experience...and hopefully a positive one. I'm looking forward to that opportunity.

I just hope that our ability to improve the lot of the elves won't just break down into the Dalish supremacy fetichizing that happens so often on this forum. The City Elves have a unique and distinct culture, and equal treatment for the elves and freedom from the alienages means more than just forcible cultural assimilation into the Dalish.

I know, right? I'm looking forward to this too!
I loved being able to approach the elves as a brother or sister in DA:O, but unfortunately, outside of the Origins, most were too scared or busy to reciprocate. For example, Berwick says words to the effect of, "Look, just because you're an elf doesn't mean we have to be friends." The elven servant in Arl Eamon's castle begs to be allowed to get back to work since she'll be punished for dawdling.
If we get to share a sense of kinship with elven servants and passerby's, I would be so happy! (The elves' strong sense of kinship and community is one of the things I love best about them; particularly city elves!)

I agree so much. So many people seem to feel like "elven freedom" means just getting the Dalish the kingdom and society that they envision, and the city elves just assimilating to that vision. But, let's face it:
A) The city elves out-number the Dalish by at least a hundred to one.
What's more, like you said, I think the city elves have great cultural merits that I think would be tragic to lose to the Dalish. Among other things, because of the on-going prejudice they receive for their heritage, I think the city elves have a stronger sense of community, kinship, appreciation of being elven (I know the Dalish value it, but I think the elves appreciate it), and (on average) more acceptance of cultural and background differences. In most Alienages, there seems to be a sense of "Hey, come on in. We're all elves here," as opposed to "Any elf not like us is a flat-ear, no better than humans," or "If you join us, you have to be just like us," or "So, you finally want to learn to be a real elf, eh?"
I want the elves to get freedom more than I can say, but I don't want the city elves to completely lose their cultural identity either. =(

remember Fenris+ merril are the only "good looking" elves in da2, the rest are nightmarish creatures of sorts ...

I cut out the point for spacing, but I just want to say I wholeheartedly agree ith you.

I don't think the Dalish value being elven. I think they value being Dalish, and to them, being Dalish is being elven. They don't really consider - based on the codixes - the CEs to really even be elven by culture.
In most Alienages, there seems to be a sense of "Hey, come on in. We're all elves here," as opposed to "Any elf not like us is a flat-ear, no better than humans," or "If you join us, you have to be just like us," or "So, you finally want to learn to be a real elf, eh?"
Yeah, I'm with you there.

I think that's the operative word - we want to get freedom for the elves, not for the Dalish.

I like the interaction between city elves and qunari, personally. Seems like an organic development. I wonder what the Dalish think of that.
I'd wager they see them as traitors?
