I like them. Some people say they look like the generic fantasy elf, but I ask what is wrong with that? Why is that a bad thing? Should we change the human and dwarf designs so they don't look like generic humans and dwarves?
Agreed to that.
Yes, what is wrong with that really? I'm not even going to go into the whole 'humans and elves can produce
offspring so they can't be too different genetically' thing since fantasy often ignores such things anyway. The first game set it up so that short, skinny human with pointy ears were what elves looked like, the second game may have changed that but that doesn't make it wrong to change it back. Also, no one ever complains that dwarves are *just humans who look like they've been squished' or that they 'look too generic'. It's somehow only ever an issue with the elves. I can understand the appeal of something different and I wouldn't disagree to the elves looking a little more alien or foreign but I don't think the DAII design is the way to go.
My main problem with the DAII eleves was that they looked strange. Their heads seemed too large for their bodies, their necks too long and thin, they had no shoulders to speak of, their eyes were too large...
To me it looked like they'd tried to make the elves look a little more childlike while still being adult but the end effect was just creepy - not alien. The design worked better with the elves they put more time in but still wasn't all that interesting.
