Aren't mages supposed to be MUCH more powerful than other mortals? Why are there so few templars in each tower?

Circles being overrun by demons is precisely BECAUSE mages aren't as powerful as people want them to be. And according to the demon that mocked Avernus - they find blood magic HELLarious (see how clever I am?)

@MaraGriffyn: If only they were so concerned with real social injustice (and if they were, they wouldn't have time to post SO much on here).

The mages of Thedas are the worst imaginable type of "mage". I'm actually glad they use the term mage and not wizard. The connotation of wizard is "wise-man/woman".

Dagna is smarter than ANY mage presented in the games so far where magical wisdom is concerned - and she's a mundane dwarf. Every mage presented so far is just some primped little rich kid with a chip on his shoulder.

The lesson? Bored rich (powerful) people cause all sorts of trouble.

for OP, I am going to say that it is to give mages the "illusion" of being able to research in peace, and that one Templar could slaughter a mage with surprise.

Yet earlier still homosexuality was common, in Rome and Egypt. I think the difference was the dominant religion at the time, in medieval Europe it was Catholicism and both Rome and Egypt were pantheists (had multiple gods).

Andraste's religion doesn't seem to worried about regulating morals, it is a lot more worried about magic and demons. I imagine their society is also less fixated on who sleeps with whom and more on who does blood magic.

True but I'm assuming when people compare Dragon Age's setting to medieval  times they're refering to medieval England.

I'm pointing out the comparison is faulty.
