Hi all,

I am just recently playing this game for the first time and I am enjoying it very much.

I also think I am getting the hang of combat strategy but there is one thing that I have yet to figure out.
How can I prevent my party members (other than my tank Alistair) to NOT attack so that Alistair can build up some threat?

The only thing I could think of is keeping them at a distance using the hold command, but even then the ranged characters will still attack if the enemy is in range. Also changing combat stances does not help because each of them will let companions attack if they themselves are attacked and I do not want even that. I want Alistair to build up threat first.

If anyone has any ideas I would be much obliged.

Thanks!

Get Alistair to use Taunt mate, it's a much better way to spike threat. What you are trying to do is like a chore and is really not necessary; the thing is even if you give Alistair a headstart, your primary damage dealers can potentially surpass him in damage based threat in a short time, unless he uses Taunt to keep the heat on himself.
You can clear all threat generated up to that point by your mage and rogue members, except for the distance related component, by using stuff like Mind Blast, Stealth, Distraction, Feign Death.

In tactics set their behavior to passive.

I wouldn't recommend this for the same reasons as Blazomancer gave though. If Alistair goes in first and taunts every enemy should pretty much be glued to him. Taunt generates as much threat as killing an enemy three times over, and it's very unlikely to decay enough to make enemies switch targets.

I always set Leliana and Morrigan to attack either my target or Alistairs target.

I also set Alistair to attack whoever is attacking Morrigan or Leliana.

That way...Leliana and Morrigan are never attacking someone that Alistair or myself is not attacking/about to attack.

Also, the aforementioned use of Taunt...should be obvious.
