Saren shooting himself.

I felt so sorry for him. for what he became and then see Sovereign take over his corpse.

Talitha (I Remember Me quest) -- easily the most emotional moment in the game for me. You only get this assignment if your background is Colonist. What did this for me was the voice actress for Talitha -- pretty gut-wrenching without overacting. Just genuine sadness & torment. Compare this with Corporal Toombs (in the Deat Scientists quest) -- Toombs' dialogue and voice-acting doesn't compare to Talitha's.

I agree with Jospex here. This was by far the most emotional moment for me.

The first time I played with a FemShep colonist background, I was not successful in saving her. I started up the "I Remember Me" quest thinking "Oh! Cool. A little side quest." The voice actress did such a a great job and really drew me into the situation. It was so easy to identify with Talitha; I thought of how easy it would have been for our places to have been reversed. If I had been a bit slower back on Mindor all those years ago, then I would be the hiding behind the crates with a gun in my hand.

Anyway, I thought I had convinced her to take the seditive, so I stepped forwardto give it to her and BAM! When she killed herself I was so surprised. I was so stunned I had to stop playing for the night.

I love a game that can pull you into the story so much that you FEEL it.

I'm rather surprised that I'm the only one who's favorite and most emotional was Vigil's story of the Prothean genocide. Absolutely gut-wrenching and the nearest to a tear-breaker I had in the game, hands down. Whether or not you agree with what it/he did to preserve his energy and give you a fighting chance, the story of the inhabitants of Ilos and the prothean scientists who sacrificed themselves to reprogram the Citadel truly made me hate Saren and Sovereign. It was only at that moment when the main quest became a truly personal affair for me.

After that, Sovereign's reveal and Virmire escape and the battle for the Citadel - particularly the elevator scene where you go into space and see Sovereign in his full might and size. I swear, for a few moments I just staring, thinking "okey... now this is unfair".

Although these are my favorites, ME in general had many strong moments and I could easily name a few more.

This!!!. The entire conversation with Vigil and seeing all the stasis pods really drove me to tears. Although Vigil was just a hologram, the music and the tone in which he told the entire story was so sad :unsure:It really made me feel the desperation of a race facing total annihilation. Yet it was full of hope at the same time, the surviving protheans made one last ultimate sacrifice and focused all their efforts in making sure that future races would break out of the cycle.

The confrontation with Sovereign the reaper at the beacon on Virmire was terrific for me.

Private Jenkins, so full of youth and eagerness, returning to Eden Prime to find his homeworld in ruins, only to find himself ambushed by the Geth and delivered to oblivion. A toast to the fallen

That one planet that you land on where the Codex says you can see that giant canyon that was made by a weapon. When you actually see it, as it takes up most of the sky, its spooky to think that a species at one point had that kind of power, and its only a glancing shot. Makes you think what we would do if we had those kind of tools.

The one-two punch of Virmire and IIlos. I've never done Virmire any other time than 2nd to last, just cause the mission is beast. Storming the beach, sneaking into Saren's base, all the other things everyone else said, then Illos for all the reasons everyone else said, and then climbing up the elevator shaft, fighting waves of geth and krogan and seeing the towering form of Sovereign at the very top gave it a very epic scale

I too have to say: Saren blowing his brains out and Joker downing Sovereign for good.

EDIT:

Your character crawling out of the wreckage of Sovereign while your two squadmates think you're done...

1) the opening is remarkable : the explanation of "Mass Effect"

2) shepard walking in the ship in the beginning with the game's music theme

3) Udina's speech about "humanity > all other races" in the ending of the game when the alien concil die

for me was the final beacon image drilled into Shepard's brain.

I felt that agony of the final moments of a long lost civilization and their doom.

The first journey to Eden Prime aboard the Normandy is really impressive, the first time I saw the mass relay sending the fregate is impressive, this kind of big gun launching the ship with such a velocity.

Though the most emotional scene if there is one, is when I discovered the Citadel for the first time, I was just amazed of the size and the beauty of the station.

It's hard to name the most emotional moment. There are so many times where I either cried or found myself wiping away a single tear track down my cheek. I think a lot of it has to do with the amazing music which was used. Even if I'm not playing the game, when I listen to certain songs on the Mass Effect sound track I can't help but get tingles up my spine or mist in my eyes.

If I had to choose just one though it has to be the ending. Watching Joker weave in and out, flying high and firing the killing blow through Sovereign. I was on the edge of my seat filled with both pride and worry yelling, "Don't you dare ruin my ship!" Then, as the wreckage was launched from the blast; watching it slowly drift towards the tower. Shepard looks up, looks towards Kaidan and Garrus and yells, "Go!'

I bawled my eyes out as I watched Anderson and the rescue team dig through the rubble, only to find Kaidan and Garrus. Garrus' face is grim, his mouth a hard line as he shakes his head. Kaidan turns to look behind him to where Shepard had been. His eyes sad; he believes he lost the one he loves. Only to then have the music rise up and reach crescendo as something moves in the distance. Shepard lives.

*Coughs* I think I might have channelled my inner Thane there.

Other moments include the very beginning of the game as well; Shepard moving through the ship with such a heroic score playing in the background. The first time seeing the Citadel. The music is wonderful and makes me tingle. Become a Spectre as well. I loved the speech the council gives as people gather to witness the birth of the first human Spectre. The speech Shepard gives to Normandy crew makes me swell with pride. Meeting Talitha and helping her. When she embraced my Shepard and asked her if she'd dream I broke out into tears.

Virmire. Kirihee's speech gets to me every time. His determination and heroics; he knows he's going to die today, but that doesn't him from doing what needs to be done. Having to leave Ashley behind. The shot of her watching the Normandy escape without her. "I'm so sorry, Ash." Vigil and learning of the Protheans.

So many moments. This post was a bit long, sorry.

Picking the "renagade" option in Tali's loyalty mission at the flotilla by telling the truth about her father. I did it after saving of course just to see what would happen.
Tali unloads on you and if you try to diffuse the situation Shepard is looking away ashamed appologizing capped off with Tali actually telling you "unless its mission related dont speak to me anymore" I was so sad... If I didnt save before hand and that was my actual desicion I would have been depressed.

I have to agree with you there. Bioware has an excellent music director in Jack Wall. The opening music and the track that plays during the "Shepard lives!" scene are probably my absolute favourites. (Although Sovereign's theme is a close third. I just LOVE Sovereign's voice. It's so... cold, filled with a disdain that speaks volumes about the evil of the Reapers, even though they're completely emotionless.

Funnily enough, the first time I played through the game, I thought that Liara and Ashley were UNDER-emoting during that scene. They didn't even look particularly happy when I crawled out of the rubble! *pouts* And you two said you loved me!

Landing on Ilos, while Pressley is nerdraging on the wall computer.
Joker, who is the biggest jerk around, says with the most resolute voice

"I can do it."
...
"I can do it!"

That was really amazing.

Also, I found myself throwing my hands to the sky when Anderson knocked Udina silly. I wanted to punch him myself, on the monitor.

There were a lot of great emotional moments in this game, but the one that pulled at me the most was when Shepard emerged from the wreckage at the end.. Just the combination of the music and, the build up, and then seeing Shep standing up proud over the Reaper remains was just epic. Not to mention I didn't even know if he was gonna make it, if it was going to be a cliff hanger. It def moved me, and is one of the most triumphant moments in gaming history IMO.

The decision between Ash and Kaiden is also a very close runner up, esp with that sad piano music playing after the event takes place.

When Thane said to his son "I have taken many dark things out of the world. You are the only bright thing I have ever added to it".

Very powerful scene.

Vigil talking about the Protheans was the big one for me, though I felt that ME2 had more "personal" emotional moments. As was getting Saren to shoot himself.

I also really liked Garrus's mission, done Paragon. He's furious with you for trying to arrest Saleon, and then when you talk him down, he stops, gets all quiet, and says, "I've never met anyone quite like you before." :3

Matriarch Benezia's death :

"No light ? They always said there would be - Ah..."

Also great that it had effect on the dialogue if you brought Liara with you.

Everything mentioned before. Most touched by "I Remember Me".

Driving through the creepy underground bunker on Ilos, and then talking to Vigil. That was pretty damn cool.

I didn't feel anything at the end where your squadmates think you're dead for all of 6 seconds.

Talking to Vigil was an emotional moment. An unexpected moment of calm.

"I remember me."

Saren thanking you before taking his own life.

The look on the captain's face when she's realized the Alliance has cut off communication.

Ashley shooting Wrex the one and only time I didn't have the ability to talk him down. RAGE!

That look on Kaidan's face when Joker interrupts your kiss. RAGE, Joker! RAGE!

"Do you want me to arrest you?" "I want you to try."

Some of those were a bit more emotional than others. I'm pretty sure losing Wrex was the only time I yelled out "I HATE YOU. YOU MAKE BABY JESUS CRY" and mean it.

I get goosebumps in so many scenes of ME1 and ME2, I don't know where to start. I know though, that means I definetly feel close and personal to this game.
