Why are some people complaining about the DA:I elf design?

Well duh! Of course the elves would look like humans since that's how they have always looked since their conception,I don't see people complaining about how dwarves are short and stocky humans who live underground and have a penchant for drinking, smithing, and fighting.
I don't see people asking for dwarves to be changed just to make some sort of statement so why are elves targeted?

Lots of people complain about that, and Varic is so awesome as a character because he's none of those things.

frankly, I welcome the return of these elves because I found the anime-navi ones mildly creepy.

But do they ask for dwarves to be radically changed to the point where they no longer look like dwarves?Because that's what some people are asking for when it comes to elves. In Exile wrote...

Exactly, these people don't care if the lore states DA elves are supposed to be attractive to humans andthey go"Nope,I want elves to look like bug eyed mutants just because."Nefla wrote...
Some people want different for the sake of different.

Yes? I mean, people don't make threads about it because Bioware didn't change the dwarves, but that's not the same as people not wanting the dwarves to change.
For example, I'd like them not to be bearded, short and stocky.

But those things are what make dwarves...well dwarves. If you change their size then they just become regular humans who live underground. In Exile wrote...

Ever since Bioware released screenshots of how the races looked some people have been complaining about the elves saying they look like "humans with pointy ears".

I concur. Sometimes, these people just like to nit-pick and whine for something that is so trivial. I don't see any sort of problem with the design of the elves in DA:I. I mean do they expect something more grotesque?
I can understand something like say Geralt's design, when they completely changed how he looked in The Witcher 2; initially, and then the fans and even I included complained about it and then CDP decided to change his face back to the way it was just like in The Witcher 1, y'know, that iconic wolfish look. That's something I can completely agree with. But this? No! Because we get to create our own characters and sculpt the appearance of our protagonists the way we like. God!

They did the same to the elves. Rather being aloft and super special and magical, they've been brought low.
Of course, this has actually nothing to do with appearance, only their portrayal. Regarding their appearance, my answer is a big, resounding, firm "Meh".
If they look distinct, great. If they don't, I don't even play elves so let the people who do be happy.

Some elves are mystical, they live in strange lands and have a strange beauty about them, however one thing that always remained constant was that they looked like humans but were'nt human at all. Some live in forrests, others live in beautiful cities that are laid with gems and gold, others live in dark places, and live in spiritual worlds.Volus Warlord wrote...
Wait a sec-elven aesthetic is more than just "humans with pointy ears?"
That's why I like elves because they are so different despite looking like humans.

They'll be called dwarfs as they are larger in stature than the other races, who's intelligence also dwarfs all else, while being well kempt mountain dwelling, champagne drinking scholars who pay members of the other races to mine their real estate as they're claustrophobic. In Exile wrote...

I wonder how many people complaining about the imporved design were actually intending to play as one. There's no way I would have played as one of those monstrosities in DA2 if given the option. Probably will do so in DA:I (after the usual human mage playthrough >_>)

However, if that canard were true, then those same people would accept the "new" look as well - but already some people are complaining about them - so fanboyism isn't the only answer.
From what I have read on the multiple threads concerning the new look, some people just want something different, and lore be damned. They complain about the "short humans with pointy ears" and criticize "generic elves." I have to admit, I do not understand the reason at all for their objection.
Do they just want something different just because it is different? Do they actually find giraffe necked, bug eyed, donkey-eared, emaciated mutants attractive? The world is a big place with room for all sorts of likes, dislikes, fetishes and such - but this one has me stumped.
The redesign is the right direction; even though the male does have a gap-toothed, red-neck, yokel kind of look - like maybe he has a NASCAR hat and a confederate flag painted on the back of his Ara'vel (SIC) or something...
Hey new thread idea! You might be a red-neck elf if...
