Thane's look was ultimately decided by the women at bioware....

It's not easy being green, but somehow he still manages to wake up every morning and seize the day. We could all learn a great deal from the drell.

As for attractiveness on a personal level, I think he's very fine looking. His looks intelligent, and the wide, dark eyes seems peaceful even though we know from the videos that Thane has problems reconciling what he does for a living with his morals and emotions. It's probably that very trait that makes him attractive - he still has what we see as a 'human' soul even if not a human body. Given that green is my favorite color and I raise betta fish, he almost seems tailor-made for me. XD A friend of mine and I had a good laugh about it on my blog (which is green and black and has been for some two+ years).
Whether or not I'll get along with him in the game remains to be seen, though. My paragon frowns on murder you know? But at the same time, I can respect the fact that offing one person to save hundreds or thousands of others is sometimes the lesser evil. I get the feeling Thane is going to be experiencing some ripple-effects though. You take one life and you touch many others.

Artistically speaking, I think Thane is impressively designed. All the little details and animation in the drell face are stunning. The subtle differences in the texture and color of his skin are also appreciated. The turians as well are one of the more notable concepts I've seen in any video game period. Bioware has always had an excellent art team but these two races have me so awed and intimidated that I'd like to personally huge the artist/s behind them. (I would also kill to sit them for a time in the studio and watch them work, but if they're anything like me when I draw that'd be very distracting...)

After all, if his voice was high pitched an squeaky, I bet he wouldn't be as popular.
Or he would be, just for different reasons.
He would be popular with cats?
Now I imagine him being swarmed by kittens. Kittens everywhere, following him wherever he goes.
(FWIW, Remmak addressed my "serious" thoughts on this matter very well.)
@ Pups - don't worry, one of my manfriends said the same thing. He's a real cutiepie.

I think the overall effect is rather creepy; fitting an assassin, certainly, and the design's kinda cool artistically, but I'm really not getting the romance vibes.

Shouldn't we be posting on the Thane Thread since we aren't discussing the topic's main point?
we're discussing thane's awesomeness, that seems pretty on point.

the topic's main point?
I will elucidate on why I find Thane attractive:
- His posture and way of moving sold me first, interest in aesthetics came afterward. He's very precise and professional in his movements, but confident -- not overly so, but he maintains a presence in a room. He knows what he's doing. His voice sold me next -- masculine, sort of gravelly, with concise speech and a grasp of language. He gets to the point without bludgeoning you over the head with it. My impression is that he means what he says even if what he says seems a bit cryptic at first.
- I respect a man who can kill another man in twenty-five different ways with just one hand. Ties back into the professionalism and the manner in which he does so. It's not just pray and spray, it's CQB where you rely on precision and efficiency above all else. It's graceful but intimidating.
- The artistic design of Thane sealed the deal. I find his aesthetic very interesting to look at because it's so complicated but streamlined -- you have the interlocking cranial plates, the alternating hues that just balance out all the features of his face (dark eyes softened by dark gradients of skin, balanced by the dark marking under his lip, balanced by the dark scale of his forehead which some speculate to resemble a "spiritual third eye") and the careful textural detail that are his speckles and scales, even the stripes along his neck and the more vulnerable bright patches of color under his neck. As a designer I am interested in how all these elements work together, and I appreciate the visual quality to Thane's look (and the effort that went into constructing it.)
- The aforementioned attention to detail and visual cues combined with piqued interest at the manner in which he carries himself leads me to consider him as "hot", or "stream-lined silversmooth leather-clad fathomless flashy sexydude". I loved how he sauntered around the table in the E3 demo and gestured with his hands. It kept things moving, gave things a feel of familiarity.
- The way he twitches and emotes with his eyeridges is adorable.
- Hot bod.
- Dem lips.
- His personality seems conflicting and unexplored, so there's the general element of mystery as one wonders who he really is.
- Cool jacket.

I suppose he does have nice lips.
Ah well, that's just being a man I guess, I am glad that Bioware at least hit the mark for some people with his design.
