that is debateable to say the least, but i agree, i am a pissed gamer who wants answers, not a mod who comes in making threats to us when all they do is make those threats and nothing else, what is wrong with Bioware, i will tell, they are owned by EA, that is the true problem here, EA only cares about money and who gets screwed in the end, we do, the customers, they then tell those who work at Bioware what they can and can't do overall and wes uffer for it, it makes me wonder  how bad Awakening could be at this rate.

Now now, EA has stopped be the evil overlord of gaming a couple years ago already. Now that seat is rightfully owned by activision and I doubt they'll ever give it up. EA actually increased their quality tenfolds since when Ricciatello took the CEO position back. Sure, they aren't perfect, but we have to give them credit for the massive improvement they brought to their brand.

I understand that blaming the ex evil overlord is the easy way out, but you can be more than sure that if it was up to EA we would have had RtO earlier, instead than later. EA DOES care about money (they are a business, caring about money is what businesses do), and knows very well that pushing RtO back to back with the ME2 release is going to hurt sales, so I definitely doubt this problem comes from them.

We did. I put forth a proposal. It was accepted, and now we are in the process of getting me access to various databases and whatnot so that I can compile updates on a regular basis. It's coming, but a change in communication processes is not an overnight affair.

I don't fully understand why Victor Watcher would need to have access to an ambiguous data base to be able to collate information from the team who work on the DLC. Can't he just pick up a phone? One phone call, I agree Victor, isn’t an overnight process – it’s a 5 minute process. I appreciate any response the Bioware people give, however; anything is better than nothing, I guess.

Also; does it seem that the phrase "in the process of" is the Bioware equivalent of Blizzards’ “Soon™”? It’s an answer without giving an answer. Bioware should hire the Mad Hermit so we can have discussions like, “Bioware, is Return to Ostagar being released soon?”, “Is it? I don’t know? Are you? Are you one of THEM?! Oh, I bet you are.”

I do not know exactly what Victors responsibiltys are but I do know if I was talking to a bunch of psychotic, rabid, die hard fans I would like every bit of information I could get my cheeto covered fingers on to make sure it was right and on point.

About the "accessing databases" issue, I cannot be sure, but from my experience, Victor needs to be given access to the developers GroupHUB or whatever equivalent program they use to share the status of the various internal developement tasks inside Bioware. It's quite common practice.
Basically it's a intranet or internet based portal on which each developer and team is given "milestones", and they can post the status of such milestones for everyone else in the company to read and coordinate with. It's the most efficent way to spread development information without making 1221321 phone calls or using messy mailing lists.

I wouldn't be surprised if the community managers weren't given access to it by default (they don't normally interact with developers), and by the fact that he needs to wait to be given an account.

But wouldn't this take some admin like 5 minutes to give him access?  I don't understand what the "process" would be.

That depends on the admin really, and on the procedures of the company itself. I can tell you that one time, when I was working in the voice acting field as a supervisor (not really a negligible position, since I needed to know what the hell was the status of the mixing of each production, if some shifts didn't finish all the lines they were given and so forth, and it was critical that that kind of information somehow reached me), it took them 5 days to send me that darn account, and I had to call the intranet admins every single day of those 5, twice a day.

remember that community managers aren't exactly the alpha dog of the development pack, so it's not unlikely that he has to throw some rocks against the windows to get people to listen to him.

Authorization can take a long time because of security issues and corporate bureaucracy. Is just the way it is... the act itself would likely take 20 minutes maximum, however you first have to convince all interested parties, get triplicate approval forms, sign further ndas, etc.

So from your post Abby we can imagine that progress is slow and ponderous, when changes are made. Thats fine.

It can be, or might not, it depends on the company procedures. I've seen other times in which it took one day to wake the sleeping admin, others in which it was instant. The five days example was extreme, and i've seen it only once.

But it taking a day or two is definitely not so farfetched.

And yea, as fex says, given the common role of a community manager, that does not normally involve having access to development material, Victor probably has to go through some bureaucracy and further NDA signing before getting that username and password.

Good stuff...not being able to play the game is still frustrating as hell, but this is a little more insight into the dev process that I didn't have before, so that's cool.

I've always been productive Merin. The fact that i'm not productive in the direction you'd like, doesn't mean that I'm not productive at all :innocent:

Because, naturally, a game is incomplete without a free set of (mostly) ugly armor.

I just have to paste this here because it is kinda relevant:

"There is no doubt that we have some long-term plans for DLC and that we need to share those plans with a lot of people so we can all do our jobs properly. The fact of the matter is that game development, even for downloadable content, is a fluid and sometimes unpredictable process until you get closer to releasing whatever is being worked on. We don’t share our DLC plans publicly from the beginning because things can and will change over the course of development and we absolutely don’t want to create any unrealized expectations for millions of fans of our game.

It’s incredibly important to us at Naughty Dog that our fans have the best and most accurate information about anything we’re up to. There will be more info coming in the months ahead about our future DLC content once we have everything solidly locked down – and, trust me, there are a lot of very cool things in store for UNCHARTED 2."
