The funniest part of it is that shepard (or at least "my" shepard) is exactly the kind of character I normally connect the best with.

It's funny. After reading all the contents about "I don't care anymore about RtO! I have ME2", the more I play into ME2, the more i realize that DA:O is superior in many aspects, and i care even more about RtO. Don't get me wrong, ME2 is a very good game, but for some reason it fails to reach the storytelling heights of DA:O. While the main character is definitely more fleshed out, for obvious reason, I really can't connect with Shepard as much as I do with my wardens.

Even more than storytelling I think the real "home run" are the characters, while i have my hopes high for Subject Zero.
Unfortunately my tastes in what you described are quite different. I'm not much of a shooter fan. I would have much rather put DA:O fighting in ME2, with the ability of fully controlling the squad and a full fledged pause function.
Also, what they called "streamlining" is really what I call "dumbing down". They removed almost all the RPG mechanics, and that really hurts my enjoyment of the game. Oh well. It's still a good game. Just not nearly as good as DA:O.
but I would guess I'm digressing.

There's no stats, no itemization for your companions... it's a bit depressing for an RPG fan like me... but oh well. At least the story is good so far.

It's a good one. So far, much much much better than any other shooter out there for sure.
@weyrleader: I really had problems relating with your statements until I thought to check which version of DA:O you were playing. Unfortunately the control scheme of DA:O on consoles is completely botchered compared to the PC one, and one of the clunkiest i've seen in ages.
I most assure you that on PC is much, much more intuitive and fun.

While I'm very happy to hear the news, i feel just a lil bit "meh" at the fact that Ray decided to go tell gaming sites before actually coming to tell it to their own community.
Also, "it's almost through certification" seems to confirm that the PC version has been held on behalf of the console version, since the PC version has no certification. While not surprised, i'm sad to see a broken promise.
But yay if we get it soon! Some good news at last.
Advice I'm gonna take...n0y0ki wrote...

more than likely, sound advice.

But still.... if it is true, then only a week before I can get immersed in DA:O again! Playing The Last Remnant this last while has been entertaining, but still.. not as good as DA:O
