I have loved video games and they have been a large part in my life. I create video game related projects with another passion of mine. Crafting images and figures with various mediums.
Strong female roles in video games were virtually non-existent (save a handful of characters) when I was growing up. An absence I took little notice of, as I was just playing video games. I have been fortunate in not encountering much gender bias through out my life and professional career. My father never expected any traditional role for me. I grew up playing sports, reading with him, cooking with him (my mother is terrible at cooking) and generally encouraged me to be myself before being his little girl.
I am glad to see that you have created a character so many can look up to regardless who or what they identify as being.
Now I'm not entirely sure this is the place to put this and please tell me if it was inappropriate to put it here. But I have to thank the entire team for making her. You treat her with respect and dignity. She is the equal to any hero in myth and legend. Thank you.

Although I'd like it when technology allows it for longer hair and prehaps for a future female protaganist not to get breast transplants between games.

When did gender ever matter in a BioWare game? The only difference between the two is who you can bang and even that is slowly phasing out.

Most people of both genders prefer to play characters of their own gender, especially in games that give them an option to pick. Simple.Br3ad wrote...

I must be the only guy in gaming that perfers to play games that have a gender selection to almost always play as a female protagnatist, unless I have to play as a male character to get an achivement, in a game I don't play as a male character.

You are not alone, not by far. There are plenty of guys preferring to play female characters. Just check out The Old Republic: no way it has that many female playersCyberstrike nTo wrote...

Personally I always choose to play a female protagonist myself, when the option is available. I just enjoy looking at (pixels forming) women a lot more than looking at guys. And I already am a guy in reallife, so it's a nice change from that as well.
There a plenty of guys liking to play as the opposite gender. In the case of women, they usually DO play their own gender.IsaacShep wrote...

I meant gameplay wise. Shepard can have the same personality, status, and rank regardless of gender. That sort of thing.IsaacShep wrote...

But there was also tons of positives her ME uniform casual, her armor for the BDTS DLC I loved though I think all her armor options were still either stylish and functional or purely functional which respected her. Garrus dancing with her, her shooting with him, Hal's voice work spanned all 3 games and made the game great for it she had passion and depth in the 95% of her lines. She made this character.
The romance between her and Garrus was great but even just the mentor/mentee non romanced Garrus works stellar. Oh and make more male romances that are interesting while I'm on the topic.
I just hope next ME game that they keep in mind their female hero don't call for scenes that would be too outlandish or just plainly not look right when she's doing it like the Yahg scene if she's got to fight the hulking mountain she can't go shoving it around like male hero because it looks off sure she's got metal bones but still kick him, run onto a pillar then use that momentem to leap push off it and give him a huge foot to the face that shoves him or knocks him down. I've got the same issue with Nilin vs Christmas Man he's huge she's tiny and her fist fighting him I'm not buying it.
Make more scenes that are original to femhero like dancing with Garrus, she loves Grunt, or hilarious mines bigger rebuttal, she may handle the situation differently or she gets or makes comments that male hero doesn't.
Playing a character like femshep is still new and hopefully will only be and get better to me Mass Effect isn't ME without her. When I play as her and I over come my enemies or get my spector status I felt like I accomplished something I don't feel that way with male shep its like I expected to over come it just cuz I'm a guy. Now of course next ME game will need a new leading lady that hopefully makes an even better impression.

It's cool that they made femshep and all, but it hardly, if ever, feels distinct, except for the obvious voices that are different for the male and female, respectively. If I play as a woman, there should be more gender-specific lines, or if I am male there should be lines that only apply to the male. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be equal; of course men and women should be equal in all art forms. My concern is that it wasn't a genuine enough of an experience. Most, if not all, of the lines were shared between both genders and it ruined the replay value as the opposite sex. I guess that's why femshep never makes it off of Eden Prime because I know that I'm going to get the same lines with almost all of the characters, except for only like 10 occurrences in the entire franchise. It's not that I identify better with male; it's that it wasn't worth playing and starting all over again as the other gender.
I agree when I hear lines shared in some moments I wish she would've said things in a more woman maner like male shep says, " The lady said to leave her alone" Fem Shep could've said, " She said stop it," to us its the same type of thing but girls say somethings different. I suppose its a female threatens slightly differently then a male but its slight, while I do pick up on it and it does remind me then this script was written for male hero I usually over look it in favor or my story contiuation. But keeping in mind femhero for lines would also be good.
I also agree that BW need to make the Povs more distinct there are a few differences in each game from male and female but since I'm in a males world I can't help but think she should have even more content new challanges by npcs that only happen because its her good or bad. I can't help but think during cutscenes she should use her brains and not brawns the best example I have is Shep vs spector girl. Male hero runs and shoves her out the window pure brawns.
A woman unless crazy like Jack isn't going to do that...maybe shoot her if you need the window to break or better yet have spector girl just biotically toss femhero back she blows the window out herself and femhero then shouts for Liara to give her a bubble and Liara lowers her down to give chase. Maybe the latter example could've been used for male hero too I mean shoving anyone out the window with you in tow is just terrible scene selection. Maybe a woman should write the scenes for fem hero or BW says we have a fight in this scene heres our bad guy heres how it ends now make her believable during it in lines and actions we'll defult to you without telling her heres how male hero solved that see what she comes back with maybe her scenerio works best for both hero sexes. The more individulistic they can give us for both sexes pov's in this space world the better.
