Should you give loot towards the end of a module ?

Just like real life emperors then.

Agreed with Dann. I often reach the end boss ill-equipped because I forgot to buy stuff like healing kits and other consumables before heading there, so dropping a few here and there may be useful.

I wouldn't worry about exports and other modules, though. Just give whatever makes sense and can be used in yours. Besides, not many modules are suitable for a level 20 character.

BTW, how close is your module to completion, more or less?

I'm working on the twelfth module out of thirteen but the last one should be the easiest as it's the ending ( pretty obvious really ) and wont be as long as the others. But it's still going to be too big to cram in with another one as there are a lot of places to revisit and cutscenes etc.

Giving good equipment at the end of the module only seems pointless to me when it's done in a way that draws attention to the fact that "I could have used this earlier."

But I can't really think of a way around it. Perhaps the final reward should come less in the way of amazing equipment, but instead a gratifying ending that causes the player to believe their character wants to retire in comfort and peace. Perhaps the paladin has children and a wife, perhaps the thief retires as a baron complete with a keep. The Cleric is made the Prior of a Priory in a peaceful farming community devoted to prayer and preaching. Barbarian gains 10 wives and lives his years out as a Uthgardt chieftain. Then there is the mage, the fighter, and ranger etc.

It's all under control I've given lots of consumable stuff during the last bit, returned the party to a place with shops loaded with cash so they can offload things ready for character export and did something a bit different with the last magical item.

Hopefully I am now writing a suitable ending and because this module's for monks I'm going to give the PC a new cushion to sit on whilst meditating, some cotton sack robes and a head shave.. I think that's pretty gratifying and gives comfort and peace.

Perhaps you could give them a place to meditate ... thier own monastery type of thing.

Somewhere to atone for all the bad habits they picked up. And if they don't feel penitent it could be somewhere to keep them.

Funny strange or funny ha ha?

I thought I was going for a witty and hilarious pun on the word habit you see. It's a pun, a joke ... sort of.

I was hoping for an lol at least, a rotfl perhaps or an outside chance of rotflmao.

All I get is a funny, and I don't think you mean that do you ?

Now you get a rotflmao..

The funny was because...

The module's actually called Bad habits due to what you get up to, naughty monks and a companions dubious pasttime and you'll have to play it to see the ending and then you'll say "aha that's why, now I understand the lack of rolling around."

Then again they do say that great minds think alike and fools seldom differ.

I think a magical zafu as loot is fitting. A cushion so magical that when they meditate upon it, their spirits are transported to a wonderous realm of pink, filled with chickens...

This is a fitting ending to the thread with just a groundhog as loot.

Excellent !
