Even with its own animations I can't picture it working. The gameplay in DA so far consists in hitting the enemy a lot and the use of rapiers, to look right, would require a more precision/insta-kill type of gameplay imo. Also parries, I cant imagine fighting with a rapier without parries happening.Wulfram wrote...

As much as I like rapiers and basket-hilt swords (my favorite type of sword is the scottish broad blade basket hilt) I don't think Dragon Age combat can handle that properly. I would prefer not to have rapiers in DA than see them used like an axe.
They could have seperate rapier and dagger trees for rogues, and thus seperate animations.

I just don't want the weapons to look bland. It's not a fantasy RPG because everything is 100% practical.

After that, give me a sword and shield fighting style that's not just using the shield to simply bash people, there are records of shields being equipped with edges and shields that aren't as much a traditional shield as it's a massive gauntlet with protruding plating that acts as a shield that go with pointy ends you can use to punch and pierce with great force (think LotR movies: Uruk-Hai shields!).

Kinda like in Star Ocean 3 you could upgrade your starting Metal Pipe to be a giant death machine of death and pipe and metal and blood.
I want joke weapons!

The German two handed ''war knife'':
yep, cool weapon. but the correct term is "Langes Messer" ("long knife") and it's a one-handed sword.
here is a video with combat techniques:

an other great german weapon (~15th century) was/is the "german longsword" ("Lange Schwert").

There are several names for that kind of weapon, Grosses Messer, Langmesser, Schlachtmesser, Kriegsmesser etc. They're all correct.
And its a two handed weapon, the video you posted showing the combat techniques is featuring the small one handed version.
The guy on the left is using such weapon:

Orlesian rapier

Bastard sword

Bows that actually look like real bows, without spikes and extra arms and whatnot

Overall, just place me in the 'more realistic' camp when it comes to the weapons. Slimmer and shorter longswords/greatswords and less ridicolous axes/maces/clubs and more realistic bows please. When it comes to other games that have done this well I'd say the early levels of Dark Souls is a good place to look, as well as some of the Witcher 2 swords.
Oh and spears/polearms would be great... if it's in the cards. :innocent:
