not to sound like a japanese fan boy but technically most types of swords that are considered best in their field are of the katana family. if you were to narrow it down to just stabbing than you might be correct but it is not long enough or the right shape to be an effective slasher and it's not long enough for chopping. if we are going european than I would have to say the Grosse Messer is a better type. if double-edged I would go with the standard broadsword or longswords.SNascimento wrote...

It's not being a fanboy is you state an observation that most sword scholars share.Mirrman70 wrote...

I'd love to see katanas, but I don't think we will see katanas, shuriken, or any other 'Oriental' weapons until Thedas gets an Orient (or its functional equivalent).

No crossbow still require practice and strengthDeinonSlayer wrote...

There's a reason the crossbow completely displaced the traditional bow and arrow in armed combat - you didn't need to have years of practice to master how to shoot a crossbow.
Mages get to choose from staves or...well...staves. It's bull.

The Gladius was a weapon of mass destruction, not other cold weapon was responsible for more deaths in history. It's not the best in single combat, it's certainly not the most advanced sword ever created.Mirrman70 wrote...

But to put in the hands of a soldier? No weapon was better.

cold weapon that is responsible for most deaths is spear, it is simple, efficient(becouse it was only medieval weapon that was able to kill knight on a horse with just one strike), its cheap and easy to make, you have big advantage if you move in formation, and it was used by every known nation
