In the latest GameInformer video, BW devs discuss RPGs and the future of BW in a roundtable discussion:

One of the things they discuss around the 20:30 mark is how they're still interested in the JE IP and it is likely that it will appear in the future. This is nothing that e haven't heard before but it reaffirmes their interest which is a good thing right?

I immediately started squeeing after reading that they would say something about Jade Empire in the video!

They may not have said very much, but I'm incredibly happy to hear that JE isn't off the table yet. It is still my favourite Bioware game and I would love to see them return to the awesome setting they created for this game.

They've been interested for a while, they were even working on a follow up before the EA takeover, after which they stopped for some reason. Time to put up or shut up imo.

Was gonna post this too, I think around the time they were planning a Jade Empire 2 some supposed concept art leaked showing a more modern world:






I think it would have been an interesting concept to have a modern jade empire where there's more of a divide between the spiritual and technological side to the universe and also a more detailed exploration between the Jade Empire and the lands to the west.

I've never seen these, magic/technology would've been a great concept to explore.

 JE2 needs to happen.  I like to pretend that when they say "new IP" in that video, they mean "new Jade Empire."  Because I don't know how much I'd like an unknown, but I do know how much I'd like a new Jade Empire.

And in regards to integrating technology, it doesn't feel right.  Ancient Chinese culture (or at least how it is in movies and games I've seen) places a great importance on spirituality, such as Chi, strength of character, strength of willpower, and Wheel-of-Life Buddhist type stuff.  And technology is always on the antagonist's side, and is defeated by the heroes, adhering to the old ways (usually martial arts and honor).

Anyway, the world needs JE2 however and whenever it can get it.  All other concerns are secondary.
