I always feel a sort of gut punch when I see either of them get killed in the early parts of Dragon Age 2. It's kind of stupid to feel this way but I can't help comparing Bethany and Carver to my actual siblings. I happen to actually be the eldest brother of two younger siblings who are twins. So.. it hits hard for some stupid reason even though it's a fictional game. 

Although, both my siblings act like Carver and rarely like Bethany, lol. <_<

Couldn't care less for Carver myself. He does seem to be a little more "complex" than Bethany in the end-game when he's grateful that you saved his life in the Deep Roads and all that but, meh...His ****ing is even more annoying than that of Anders, because it's directed at you. :<

Eh, it affected me more personally than I'd like to admit.

Ditto, I kinda saw it coming though. Many Bioware games have those characters that usually accompany you through a tutorial of sorts and then die. (Trask Ulgo, Mhairi, Daveth and Jory, Jenkins, etc.) Some people call them "red shirts" which some of them were literally wearing . So I guess I've just gotten used to it.

P.S. I'm 100% expecting to get a "red shirt" in DA:I, I wonder who it will be...

It affected me to. So much so that i reloaded and let Carver take one for the team instead.

Since the Inquisiter is suppose to be some sort of sole survivor of something, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "a lot" =D

That's true, there could be more then one. I pity the fool(s) who join your party at the beginning .

Jade Empire pretty much had this scenario.

I know that in Jade Empire there was a companion who went with you a good, first half of the game before their unfortunate demise.
