Today is release date for issue 2 of Mass Effect: Foundation comic, with Urdnot Wrex as main character.

Did someone purchase it?

I did, and goodness it looks like Brooks/Rasa is the new writer's pet.

So she now would be in every issue, but with another name? I wonder how she'll appear in Ash's and Kaidan's stories...

Are you telling me that the Derperus conspiracy thickens once more? <_<

She's trying to turn Fist at the same time Wrex is trying to kill him. At the end, she decides she likes how uncomplicated he is and helps him escape some mercs. And she banters with Leng a lot.

Oh my freaking god.

Does everything have to be tied to ****ing Cerberus at this point? Is this what Mass Effect has become?

Did Mac Walters write this too?

Ok, so instead of explaining Wrex's story from ME1 about destroying some mercenary's station and his adventures as mercenary, they decided to put Derperus into it? Meh.

Next issue is about Ashley on Eden Prime and issue 4 is about Kaidan's accident with turian instructor. And there will be Derperus.

@up

Yes, Walters did it.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was the Cerberus people I actually like: Petrovsky, Miranda, Brynn and co. But Brooks? And feeling shoehorned in at that.

Cerberus stopped being a "rogue Alliance black ops group" years ago.  Heck they're no longer the morally grey scienctists of ME2 or the Bond villains of ME3.

Now they're the Mass Effect version of the Iluminati.

Yeah, I think the next issue of Walter's comics will reveal that the Alliance was set up by Cerberus.

I like how none of the other staff members are mentioning this on Twitter. Usually when a staff member puts up so much as a blog post, it's retweeted a couple of times.

It's as if they're deliberately attempting not to mention Walters or advertise anything he's done.

That being said, I can't say fan ideas are much better than this. Because they aren't.

I just read it on the Darkhorse app. It was enjoyable enough but it's nothing special and I don't like how it doesn't have anything to do with Foundation #1. That twist at the ending of Foundation #1 means nothing until we see what happens afterwards. But back to this issue. I thought it was cool enough to see what happened with Wrex right before you meet him in ME1 on his hunt for Fist but as I said it's not special and I hate to think that Cerberus was also involved in this one too. It's like Mac Walters has some sort of pride that he's created Cerberus and that's his focus but he won't abstract from it at all.

Also some of the dialogue was very cut and dry, like Wrex' exchange with Jasox about the burning ship. Very caricatured very cliche and unfortunately really vague, so it didn't provide the comedic feel it was supposed to. I don't understand why Mac didn't stop to think it over a bit more and come up with something more concrete than "Remember when you pulled me out of a burning ship?", like anything, Give "that ship" a name or specify the situation by detailing what its purpose was. It would make the dialogue feel more organic.

It's okay, but I don't see why this is the second issue of this comic series. It needs to continue from Foundation #1 because if every chapter is just a separate story it's gonna be very underwhelming. I can't get attached to the characters if they're constantly switched out.

And it still bugs me to think that comics is Mac's area of specialisation when it comes to Mass Effect spinoffs versus Drew Karpyshyn's love for novels. In the end his cartoony style is gonna carry over to ME4 whereas if Drew had been there I think he would give it a more elaborate style rather than caricaturing everything. I clearly remember how especially the parts with cerberus and Kai Leng in ME3 felt like in these comics. Caricatured and superficial like in comic-books.

I don't know about you but I want Mass Effect to be organic and believable and I don't really get that from Mac Walters' writing-style.

So Cerberus is now tied to the Fist incident along with Saren and the Shadowbroker? What a mess.

@David, in your opinion.

To be honest I'd rather crappy fan ideas over MORE F*CKING CERBERUS

I'm not talking so much about crappy fan ideas as uncreative ones that tread old territory way too much.

It's a small universe. That's one of the most annoying parts. Since ME3 it feels like the universe is getting smaller and smaller because everyone is convieniently intercoursing with each other at all times, and past events suddently happen to have something to do with all the new characters you meet. STOP THIS MAC WALTERS. You're cheapening the entire overarching story of your franchise.

Yes, which is perhaps why this comic is being kept quiet.

Thankfully, that's a comic and not game content.

Enough hypocrisy. How many fans demanded the return of small characters for sequels? Shiala, Parasini, Kal Reeger?

With the main Crucible plot, unfortunately. I can't really deny that.

I have no idea, but I certainly didn't but as I played ME3 first it was full of distracting fan-service and I got introduced to this community afterwards. It's been going crazy ever since. Honestly I've always though, after reading some fan-discussions about ME2 and ME3, that bioware has been leaning too much towards their fans. I hated all the fan-favorite jokes in ME3 like garrus obsession with "Calibrating" and stuff like that. It felt like it was part of a fan-fic. It's just annoying to take obvious fan-service moments as canon occurences. It really does cheapen everything.

You might just have to learn to live with that. It's something players consistently demand.
