I made this ME3 checklist a couple years back due to there not being one at the time. Since then Teryx has begun hosting a PDF checklist on his site created by ZinnMaster. I am not saying mine or his is better. They both have their uses. The PDF checklist is probably best for those wanting to be sure they collect every item, while mine is probably best for those looking to maximize their EMS score and test on-the-fly how choices will effect their ability to achieve the highest score possible (some may argue this is unnecessary with the Extended Cut, as it is quite easy to achieve the best ending with it; but when I started this that DLC wasn't out, and some of us are completionists that want the highest EMS score possible). This is an HTML document. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Current version: 2.1.1
Requirements:
- Web browser: any modern web browser will do. Very old versions (<7) of Internet Explorer are not recommended and may not work. Almost anything else should.
Features:
- Can save to your local computer (not recommended if using Internet Explorer since even the latest version of IE is buggy about local storage of local files)! Just click the link at the bottom of this post and press Ctrl-S in your web browser to save the list to your desktop or wherever. The entire thing is contained in a single HTML file. Alternately, just run it from my website via the link below.
- Saving: if your browser supports it, all selections will be saved using HTML5 web storage. Otherwise they are saved in four separate cookies in your browser (one per section). The cookies last for 30 days by default. So as long as you re-visit the list and save (manually or by having autosave enabled) it will be good for another 30 days. Modern browsers that support local storage won't have this limitation.
- Autosave: on by default, but can be switched off in options. Everything will be saved every second. Note: after turning off autosave don't forget to hit the save button so it won't turn back on the next time you load the page.
- War assets associated with missions: this saves you from having to check two separate boxes for assets obtained automatically by completing missions. Assets obtained optionally during missions can also be selected by expanding mission details.
- DLC and previous game decisions: limit the list to only showing you options based on the DLC you own and previous game decisions. The default options show as many assets as possible, although these are not all attainable.
- Automatically-obtained war assets: assets obtained before gaining control of the Normandy can all be selected by clicking a button.
- Auto-calculations: War Assets and EMS are calculated as you progress through the game. There is a text field to input your Readiness Rating which defaults to 50%.
- Mission order is optimized. Citadel and SAR missions are listed first, then optional missions, then required ones. And none are listed before they can be completed.
- All sections can be hidden and expanded, making navigation easier.
- There is some basic color coding. Base assets are green. Modified assets are either blue or red depending on whether they modify the base asset positively or negatively.
Known Issues:
- JavaScript is required! You can use it as a simple checklist (maybe print it out) without JavaScript enabled, but you cannot save or set options, or get auto-calculations.
- If using an older browser that requires the cookie save method, you can lose everything if you clear your browser cookies. With modern browsers you will only lose your progress if you delete local storage (as cookies are not used).
- Old versions of Internet Exploder (6 and older) may limit the total size of ALL cookies per domain to 4KB, rather than 4KB per cookie. Thus you may be unable to save your progress once enough check boxes/radio buttons have been selected. One way to avoid this issue is to only check important items (assets and missions) and skip the minor SAR items.
- If you move the the file to another location you will likely lose your progress. Whichever save method your browser uses this is still the case. So wherever you save it, leave it there until you have completed the game.
- All calculations regarding war assets are based on the Mass Effect Wiki. If I have made a mistake please post in this thread. But assuming the information there is correct, my checklist should also be accurate. I make no guarantees. The Wiki is not clear on some things and both it and my own testing could be off. So please let me know if I have mis-categorized or mis-calculated any assets.
- Mineral Resources: I have read every article I can find on this and I can't get a clear answer on what resources (or ratio of resources) are required on an import to get the three different possible values for this war asset. I have included all three choices and you will just have to select which you managed to get. In my own playthroughs I always ended up with the highest amount and I was too lazy to do further testing.
- It is ugly. I have just applied basic formatting. Going more for functionality than style for now. I welcome any thoughts on how to make it more appealing. Looks best at high resolutions (1920x1080 is perfect) but works even at 1024x768 with no horizontal scrollbar.
Instructions:
- Expand "Options" and select which DLC you have and what decisions were made in previous games (if this is not an imported character, look up the default choices).
- Click the button to "Check All Default War Assets" to save yourself a little time.
- After gaining control of the Normandy, check the appropriate "Mineral Resources" item in the "War Assets" section (you will have to check this in the War Room).
- Check missions, assets, etc. as you progress through the game. For any mission containing sub-items, click the "+" sign and check items based on decisions made during the mission.
- Assets obtained outside of missions (such as Allers interviews) are in the "War Assets" section.
- Items obtained by scanning planets/systems are in the "Search and Rescue" section.
- If your War Assets/EMS score doesn't update after checking a blue or red modified asset this is because you haven't obtained the base asset yet. This is by design so the score shown in the list matches the one in the war room.
Changelog:
2.1.1:
- Fixed Xen vs. Tali choice.
- Minor CSS fixes.
- Likely the final version.
2.1:
- This is primarily a clean-up of the last version.
- Biggest difference is the War Assets section which has been completely re-categorized to make it easier to follow.
- Some missions have been re-ordered in a way that is more logical.
- The Options section has also been optimized to be more logical (in general options are listed in the order they will be encountered in the previous games).
- Only addition is that some of the Citadel DLC encounters were missing in previous versions. They should all be there now.
2.0:
- Changed local storage method to make more compatible with Internet Explorer. This may cause the form to reset if you were using a previous version.
1.1:
- Fixed bug with manual save button.
- Fixed bug with N7: Special Ops Team asset.
- Reformatted Missions section to make it (hopefully) easier to follow.
- Added option to make the EMS section float (requires browser that properly supports CSS Position: Fixed).
1.0:
- First working version with all DLC and assets complete.
