Snarky responses are the best responses. I loved all of Hawke's stupid, inappropriate and tactless jokes.

She was awesome tbh, must be some of my best/funniest gaming time spent being her :D

Sarcastic/ snarky Hawke is one of the main reasons I still play DA2 from time to time. Hopefully I will be able to create a similar character for the new game and not be stuck with RoboQuisitor.

I just hope it's better than sarcastic Hawke, they weren't funny in the slightest.

Too bad half the snarky comment Hawke made weren't even funny. I actually found the agressive choices to be much funnier.

Personally, I found Warden's sarcastic line to be much funnier than Hawkes.

What were they again? I can't remember anything he said, mainly because he never actually said anything.

Worked for me. Mind you my sense of humour is of a snarky, silly and slightly juvenile bent so maybe that helps.

I'm snarky and sarcastic IRL, so yep, I want my snarky dialogue options. :P

The fact that most of the jokes were bad was half the fun. The other half was characters' reactions - getting offended or confused. It was hilarious.

Some of the Warden's lines are incredibly snarky;

Wynne: Your dog is filthy, I can smell him from fifty yards away.
Warden: Good! He will fell our enemies with his stench!

Sten: Ferelden smells like wet dogs.
Warden: You left out the rotting garbage!

But I think Snarky Hawke wins. It was fun to play a hero who's incredibly goofy and having fun along the journey, while at the same time, potentially using humour to mask their sadness as Aveline suggested. It made for a wonderfully more complex character than Paragon or Renegade Hawke.

Plus, it's great that it's often hilarious.

Hawke: I'd like to know who this Corypheus is. With a name like that, he's bound to go "Mwhaha" at some point I just know it! And really, more blood? Why can't it ever be spit or a lock of hair?
Varric: You want to encounter a Spit-Mage?
Hawke: For variety? Sure!

Usually the only one who looks mocked is Hawke when the sarcastic/snarky choice is used. Aveline said it best:

"Not now, Hawke."

A) I have no idea how you think that's mockery.

B)  Most of the time, Isabella and Varric are laughing right there with you.

I never saw either line as being sarcastic, but that might be because my sarcasm is very differnet from that. And far more bitting.

I always see lines as sarcastic, but the delivery changes depending on what Warden I'm playing.

In my mind, I always picture my bookish Male Mage Warden as delivering those lines with a very dry wit, the Female Dwarf Commoner giggling with a huge goofy smirk on her face, the Female Human Noble with a sing-song lilt, my Male Dalish as completely deadpan, etc.

I'd be interesting if we did get different voice actors for the various races, it'd greatly enchance roleplay and replayability.

The Warden had far less sarcastic dialogue, which I hope we don't return to. I like the option to pick how colourful I want to make my game, and I <3 sarcastic, irreverent protagonists.

This! Sarcastic Hawke is one of my favourite game protagonists in any game.

^ THIS exactly.  Colorful personalities = replayability in my book.  Anyone else remember how the warden trolled the Lothering Chanter into talking?  Or if your cunning was high enough, Alistair actually backed off and admitted "Okay, I'm no match for your rapier wit!"  It was when he was telling you he was raised by wild dogs, and the Warden says something like "Do you write often?  I bet your mom's a b*tch." :D

Isabela finds sex joke always funny too so I'm sure 13 year olds can easily make her laugh too.

Varric, well, yeah he likes sarcastic Hawke but he also likes diplomatic Hawke just as fine.

Which was even better because it meant you could decide in your head if it's tone was deadpan or loud and you knew exactly what it was saying. Most of the time, Sarcastic Hawke either said somethat that sounded nothing like the paraphasing or said it way too loud or over the top to be funny.

Personally, the only reason I don't work snark dialogue all the time is because sometime I wanted to be neutral without being overly nice (Diplomatic) or angry (agressive). The only middle choice was [insert random joke]. I'll gladly have a snarky character but I wouldn't include it in every dialogue wheel.

I do like sarcastic Hawke.

Aggressive Hawke had some funny moments in her deadpan, oddly humourless way. Such as in MotA, upon seeing a lake "Oh look, something to drown in." Or her response to Tallis' "what do you call it when you kill someone and take all their stuff?" "Tuesday." Sarcastic Hawke's respone (also funny), was "adventuring!"

The Warden's humorous responses were often a combination of the above - sometimes rude, sometimes daft, sometimes clever. I always liked towards in Awakening when a hysterical guard tells you darkspawn are coming from the inn, and the Warden could reply "Oh, maybe they took rooms there." The guard goes "Are you making a JOKE?!"

I loved sarcastic Hawke. I laughed a lot during MoTA because of the dialogue options.

It's also impossible for me to play DA2 without a sarcastic Hawke. My most recent playthrough has been doing the aggressive options, but god, snarky Hawke just wins.

I think this topic deals with an underlying issue that I'm a little concerned over when approaching DA:I

Will the Inquisitor have any character?

In DA:O, the Warden was completely up to you. There was no voice actor, so inflection and intended meaning was your personal experience, and the Warden grew to be whoever you wanted him/her to be.

When we got Hawke, there was a voice actor controlling every response. I really loved sarcastic Hawke, so I felt a little control there. However, Hawke was also given a name and history that we had no control over, ultimately making him/her a more stock character than a customizable one.

After DA2, Bioware got some flak (rightfully so, in some regards) for some of the choices they made, one of which, was not allowing players the choice of a race. This option is going to dictate quite a few things when it comes to believing the Inquisitor's character. We get to choose our own name, but do we get to choose a background (origin?)? Is the voice actor (individual to each race?) going to be able to deliver on our expectations and bring life to the PC, therefore the world we'll be inhabiting? I'm not sure if we'll be able to make decisions that affect our in-game personality, thus the decisions the Inquisitor makes.

And that's the fun part. Sarcastic Hawke is a troll 60% of the time. And that's what makes it fun!

I don't have the heart to have my Hawke troll his mourning mother when she's crying over his dead brother. :3 lmao
