Hopefully there will be customizable defaults, and different levels of complexity ranging from "only the huge choices" to a comprehensive list, with the non-comprehensive solutions filling in the minor details with defaults.

As far as all the online grumblings, unless it an always-online system, which Allan says it isn't, I really couldn't care less about the connectivity requirement or the long term future of the cloud. I'm sure if there is such a time that the cloud is deactivated, there will be some solution to let you play the game, at least without imports, and I'm probably not going to be importing today's saves 20 years from now anyway.

You could just save your first saved game if it's that important to you as a player. Personally, I have a lot of playthroughs but not htat much variety in choices so this will be great to see.

I am not quite sure i understand the parameters of Dragon's keep apart from a generally good idea at the center, At the moment I suspect it is because obtuse. Alas. I dumb.

I'm definitely going to deftly dodge the drama drawn out by detractors damming the despicable and dastardly deed of doing anything with the "dreadful drek" that is the cloud and the decrying of developers deeming players doing a start of game delaying internet detour...

and just say that, on the surface, this sounds like a good idea to me. By that I mean I think the Dragon Keep thingy sounds like a solid plan.

I'm perfectly fine with going through each decision and reconstructing them by hand. To me it would be fun, so long as every possible choice I can make is present in the Keep, no matter how small.

Yep same here. Importing a world state would be nice but i'm not going to complain at getting the same benefits by having to recreate the choices of my characters by hand.

The short version is that The Keep will allow us to make a custom save file to import into DAI.

Lucky you then. In one import for The Witch Hunt Morrigan "forgot" she was pregnant with my baby.
Zevran also "forgot" he was in love with my Warden in DA2 (and I remember people had issues with Leliana too).

So I am really hoping The Keep will be able to do it properly, since it won't involve all the extra fluff that existed in our save files.

That "extra fluff" is in my opinion what makes a save import a save import.

What exactly is confusing you?

Sounds like a great idea, I really wasn't looking forward to having to slog through DAII again just to be able to have a 'full' import for DA:I. I still have tons of DA:O saves on my drive to use. This is going to make it possible for me to just fill in the blanks from DAII without having to replay it. Hope I get accepted for the beta.

Any chance of getting a video run through of this at work at some point? I think it would be pretty interesting.

Sounds both good and bad.

I like the general idea of it. It would certainly be easier to create a world state this way than to spend an entire week playing through the previous games completely. I know I often have a hard time making my "evil" playthrough. While fun in parts, I can't often connect to the character so its hard to play for an extended time. This would help create those world states I can't bring myself to play.

The bad for me is I have had few good experiences with cloud computing/storage. Games that can't exit because they can't sync up and such. Hopefully, this is just a tool that you can create the world state... import it and never need connect to it for playing.

It makes sense.

Apparently there were problems with some flags not being read correctly when importing a save fro m DAO into DA2. This Keep should in theory minimize those errors.

It really is the best solution i can think of for the console gen change.

As long as all the import options are available, and i should think they will be.

The idea behind this is that you can connect to the Keep when starting a new game, regardless of what platform you are currently running on.

(And to preempt concerns, you won't need to always be connected to the keep. Once you create your game the states will be set).

This sounds great! Now we know what we can expect for ME too (:P).

I really hope you guys can set up the function to upload old saves to the keep though, that would probably make things quicker for people who're just so eager to continue the DA adventure.

Another question would be: Will all the other minor flags be taken in consideration as well, or only the major plot points? Because I can't imagine you guys asking 600 questions :D

Shame its cloud based and not a standalone client.

I think the idea and concept behind it is awesome, but...cloud based only? Not cool.

Hm what I wonder is whether it's possible to extract onto a local disk. I mean it's not always online so it must be on the hard drive somwhere which then allows us to transfer saves to different computer if we lack the internet.

Anyone else have the Dragonagekeep page kinda messed up? The sign up for beta button is faded into the background for me. It is behind the EA, Bioware and Read the FAQ links.

Solutions or work arounds?

So I'll have to connect to the internet every time I want to start a new game?

There's a good chance that that may be the case. Would ultimately depend on how we end up delivering it, things like feedback and so forth.

It makes sense but I sense that some people will be less pleased.

I recognize that this is going to be the case.

I hope so - but to me it looks like the processing runs in the cloud - with only the final state being sent across to DA:I.

If the game support straight up transfer from saved games as well, it will be less of an issue - but then I would wonder why the ability to tweak saved games before import isn't just part of the game - rather than in the bloody cloud.

I'm using Firefox in a netbook and I had to zoom out just to click in the "apply for the beta" button. And I love this idea, since in the PS3 DA:O save files are protected and unless you have PS Plus, you are out of luck if you change hard drives, or something happens to your files.
