I'll ask, once again, for you to cite your source. Post a link. If the US national average for DSL/Wi-Fi is truly 1 in 5, I would love to know. That would mean that my little town in eastern KY is ahead of the national curve! Talk about bragging rights! We are last for everything! If there is no source, please stop making up 'facts.'
I believe his 1in5 is for who can't access broadband -> interesting map from your government of broadband access USA wide http://www.broadbandmap.gov/technology not quite one in 5 but there are still areas that can't access anything other than dial-up, mostly because it isn't worth it for companies to spend money on infrastructure for so few people.

Maybe the Keep will be able to generate a downloadable save file for offline use?
Create flags -> download -> USB transfer to offline platform.
I'll keep hoping for this solution unless BioWare says it's not going to happen. I know they have to focus on getting it ready to open to the public in a few months, but after that time comes, it would be nice if they could start working on an alternate way to use the Keep for those of us who need one.
It definitely doesn't feel like you're tired of fighting/worrying...
Well, just because people get tired of something doesn't make the problem go away. ![]()
I wouldn't consider DAI something that I really worry about - I mean, it's only a game, and if I don't like they way they handle it then I'll just play another. But the import feature is something I've enjoyed in their past games, so whether I can make use of it or not is an important factor in deciding if I'll want to play DAI. The issues that come with making this feature online and possible solutions for offline players should be discussed enough that they'll know people still care about it. On the other hand, sometimes asking the same questions in the same way doesn't achieve the result you want. I try to switch it up a little. The most I expected to see from BioWare at this point was that they're at least considering other options, which is pretty close to what we got a couple pages back, so I'm pleased with that for now until more work can be done.

Oh no, not you lol.
You present your concerns clearly and you engage with people discussing back.
Tis not so for a separate poster here. I mean really, every time I read 56K dial up I want pluck my eyes out!

I know you didn't mean me, but I can understand the frustration others feel when more features are being made online-only. It's a bit different in my situation though - instead of not being able to connect but apparently wanting the ability to do so, I don't want my consoles connected to the internet at all. Most games are able to accommodate this very well, and DAI should too if they put their minds to it. It's just the waiting and not knowing.

If anyone finds out new info about the Keep from E3, do post it here for the rest of us. I'll be trying to watch some of the E3 presentations online, but only a few because it's just too long otherwise.

So as far as i can tell with the keep they can put in any plot flag or little bit of info they can think of. I personally think the whole idea behind a single system for it is great. instead of the errors from game 1-3 like we did with some plot stuff in mess effect, it will all be set exactly how you want. It seems that as long as you use a system that connects to the internet your fine. Now for those who don't who want their consoles ofline. I have enough faith in the people at Bioware that they will figure out a system that works. Whether you will be able to make a worldstate online with the keep then load it ontp a formattted usb and just plug that in to your console or some other idea is beyond me. I just believe that they will figure it out to the satisfaction of most reasonable people. To be honest I'm a pc player so It won't bother me if the offline system is terrible.

Well I know when I didnt have good internet I only connected when I needed to get something off the PSN Store. I understand you don't wanna connect it online but maybe you could make the exception just to get the Worldstate then go offline. I am sure you connect it to at least get the patches don't you?

Nope, I don't connect for patches or DLC. My consoles are completely offline with no exceptions.

If you have the ability to connect your machine to the internet, and choose not to, that's not the fault of Bioware/EA/Microsoft/Sony/anyone-else-but-you. So now you add "world state imports" to the list of things you don't connect your console to the internet for, and therefore do not receive.

I think it's a fair point to make.
The studio cannot be expected to make allowances for every conceivable situation - especially if the number of people who choose not to connect their consoles to the internet whatsoever is tiny. There are cases where people probably have a legitimate right to ask for a special method (people in very remote areas, soldiers) - but the odds of anyone not being able to connect their console to any intenet source at all for five minutes seems rather... remote. The Keep only requires one download of a save-file on EA's servers to make a new game, because the Keep information is saved as part of a new DA:I save-file.
There's a point at which indulging people who refuse to connect their console to the internet might seem like a waste of money and effort. Having and using any internet connection (which includes mobile tethering, free Wi-Fi) is hardly a great technological burden now, after all, and mainstream console gaming has to draw a line somewhere as the adoption rate of certain technologies nears 80, 90 or 100%.
Neither new console is designed to work with TVs that lack HDMI ports because that standard is so widespread as to be just assumed - and surely, access to some sort of internet is far more widespread than even that.
(I guess to put it bluntly: if you're refusing to connect your console to the internet entirely, maybe norms of videogame behaviour, and certainly the standard expectations of both developers and publishers, have moved beyond you.)

I rarely connect my PS3 to the internet just because Satellite Internet is horrible on consoles, at least mine is. So I get more errors then not when I try to download anything, but I will do it if I think the DL will be small, if its somewhat large I just take it to my friends house and use his more stable DSL

Thank you!
But that is still not 1in5 in the US. Perhaps in that particular area it would be closer to 1in5, but still not national average.

I actually have trouble seeing a reason why it wouldn't work like this. How else would the Keep function other than by generating a file for DAI to read? This seems to be the easiest way to handle the data transfer problem.

I heard somewhere that the new consoles can't read USB sticks so thats why they are worried they won't do it

I think it does generate a file, but the delivery mechanism of that file is still to be determined. The likely scenario at the moment is that the file transfer is done online, between the Keep, EA's servers and the game.
If the Keep was built from the start as an online platform (and remember, it'll have functions beyond just generating save files) then I can see why they'd see offline file transfer as a form of fragmentation.
Or maybe offline transfers were never considered necessary because the connection rate of consoles to the internet is now so high.
Some three-quarters of console players connected their machine to the internet according to the results of a study back in 2010, and that was over four years ago - I expect the proportion for consoles to be well over 80% now, and the overwhelming majority of the rest would surely have access to the internet in some form - even if only sporadically, like going to a neighbour's place.
It doesn't seem to make sense to build (... and plan, and test) another solution for the comparatively tiny proportion of players who cannot, or will not, connect their consoles to the internet. At this point surely developers and publishers are taking the ability to get at least temporary internet access as a given for just about their entire market.

Well, I guess I'm more behind the times than I thought lol (4 TVs in my house, not one of the has HDMI ports) Oh well, wasn't really interested in the next gen consoles, anyway. XD

Totally agree and in line with your points. I do think though that the quoted poster is more or less accepting that it's their choice to miss out. They at least seem to,understand this is the way it's heading for the most part. Whereas Whatnot or whatever is.... Not so accepting lol.

I found me a Solution to my Promblem , My relatives said I can bring both my PS3 & My Laptop when Inquisition is released, & said I can stay over the weekend to do my Inquisition deal.
I told them Bioware done a stupid move & it is now more complicated due to the Keep. So now I need both my Laptop & my Console when Inquisition comes on 10-07.
I assume when I do this I would need to get online using my Laptop accessing my EA/Origins Account, then make the Key Choices.
Then somehow when I access Inquisition on my PS3 when connected my Playstation 3 will somehow Read & Import the Bioware Servers & somehow will be able to Import my Keeps World State into my Playtation 3 Inquisition.
I have to go over there anyways since I got the Playstation 3 Deluxe version so I can do my DLC such as the Armors, Weapons, & the Dragon Throne.
Does anyone know if the Deluxe version comes with STORY DLC.

As far as story dlc, nothing has been announced but I believe there is a note in the deluxe edition that says 'digital content tba' or something like that. So it's possible they could announce that later. Right now it's just the extra mounts, chair, etc.

Meaning that DAI and the Keep would have to run simultaneously? Or that the data doesn't come down until you start DAI and log in?

The way I see it, the Keep website just sets up the dataset on the Origin servers that DAI then accesses to establish a gameworld start point. You can go on the Keep, set up a dozen game states, log off and go on holiday, come back and start up DAI and it will acquire those states from the server. Maybe we'll see a game state file output function, maybe we won't.
