The idea behind this is that you can connect to the Keep when starting a new game, regardless of what platform you are currently running on.

(And to preempt concerns, you won't need to always be connected to the keep. Once you create your game the states will be set).

Can we play the game without connecting to the keep?
Is there a default you can pick for a new game without using the keep?

Can we create many different scenarios and download them to our computer so we can use for a new game at any time?

That worked. As did Chrome. Weird...

Thanks for clarifying some things Allan.

I guess for me then it sounds mostly good, possibly really good.
the two remaining questions for me are:

1. What options will we have if you ever shutdown the keep servers, or they are inaccesible due to hackers etc? Perhaps you think ot a bit silly or alarmost but....y'know, SimCity. Cerberus Network for ME2. Diablo 3. And, most every EA gaming server for titles over about 3 or 4 years old. DAI looks pretty promising so far. Hate to see this cool aspect ruined by time.

do you have plans to release a local app/program to create the savestate file someday?

2. Character appearance for warden and hawke via the Keep? Or out of the question? Not a biggie for me, but others will care I think.

I'd LOVE to see this!

That "extra fluff" is in my opinion what makes a save import a save import.

Well that's extremly romantic, but when it effectivly breaks the functionality of the save import, I have little use for it.

We can have different saves states for different playthroughs of DA:i right?

I don't work directly on the Keep, so I will start to back off somewhat on giving too many details (simply because I may be wrong), but the idea that people have many different characters is definitely not lost on us (and is in fact feedback I know has been voiced internally when the idea was first planted).

In any case, I'm going to have to disengage somewhat because today's my last day before PAXPAXPAXPAXPAX and I need to get some stuff done before EOD.

If I didn't have the PS Plus when my  fat PS3 died....I would have been so mad.  I have saves on there from years ago,   I'm still debating on if I want to get this game on the new system.

Colour me stoked.

I hope I'm not the only one who hates answering "why should we pick you" questions.

I see a lot of people had issues with import bugs and corrupt saved games, and I'm just glad I've never had an issue.

I got totally lucky by the looks of things, three seperate computers and countless saves from various states and never came across a single issue.

GIVE ME MY FLUFF!

I love this idea since I have lost my save files. Now I dont have to replay both games to get new once.

As long as it allows uploading and importing (for PC saved games), I'd say it's more or less the solution I expected.

If it doesn't allow importing, however, it'll be interesting to see what choices they consider worth representing, if it's just going to be a brief list of the most essential decisions or a mind-numbing checklist of everything that could have possibly happened (and let's hope the player remembers any of it).

I am really excited about this. Playing through with different choice scenarios is something I continuously do - seriously I must have 20 characters at this point, not all active, some deleted, some I didn't want to keep, but a lot of runs through the whole game series under my belt. Studying (and I do mean that, for theories I have about narrative form and myth making and I won't bore you here with it) the different choice dynamic narrative of these games is fascinating. Looking at the decisions the Keep will offer and the trees they follow will be heaven just for the seeing it all factor alone. Import is great too.

It also makes me REALLY glad that when I started making my import saves for DA:I I started tracking on paper what decisions I am making on what characters - which should make it easy to input them into the Keep system if it doesn't have the ability to read our saves for the information.

i'm confused about this if i play this on 360 were my saves are will i still be able to import my saves or do i have to use this keep thing. Just wondering because I was thinking of playing through both games again but if we have to use the keep there is no point in playing them lol.

From the sound of it they are still trying to make it possible to import your saves directly as well.

Great news! If I get my new system, this will really go a long way in making DAI imports a lot more effective, esp as I was not happy with a few of my previous choices. Thanks!

At the end of the day some things just aren't simple enough by transferring saves and whatnot (that actual process itself I imagine to be difficult). Having to connect to the internet (possibly) to import saves from a 360 to Xbox One using the Keep is a pretty okay price to pay if you ask me. Everyone needs to understand that this will take time. If information on the Keep website is vague, it's because not everything has been confirmed and locked down yet.

Very enthusiastic, till I read what Fast Jimmy pointed out, namely:
Fast Jimmy wrote...

To me, this is basically saying "in order to import your decisions, you must be playing on a system connected to the Internet."

I'd much rather have an in-game way to do this exact same thing than a cloud server. How long will this server be up? Five years from now? Ten? This pretty much has put a shelf life on how long you can enjoy the DA games with imported saves.
He's got a point there, although of course Bioware mentioned 'multiplayer of some kind', so who effing knows how long they will keep it up as long as people keep paying for MTs...

Reading further on ahead, I read Allan's post and Star Fury's response...
Star fury wrote...

There aren't plans to directly import from save games into DAI. So in that sense, yes the Keep is our sole solution. It'd be really, really good for some people, especially those with a lot of characters, to be able to speed the process along by importing, which is what Mark is referring to with his investigation.
Not being able to import our save games is terrible news. What about an appearance of our Warden/Hawke? I have lots of characters from DAO, so instead of selecting one save file per character, I will have to select hundred choices for one character. How is it going "to speed the process along by importing"? Is this a joke?
To cut some things short which (after having read on before typing this) multiple people get wrong, IF I get Allan right, it will be that you can use your savegames to create an quick worldstate in the Keep. HOWEVER, direct importing to the game itself is a no-go.
After importing saves to the keep you can still edit the worldstate just like you can if you work from scratch.

If I remember correctly Bioware already had stated before that direct importing would be problematic due to the way the previous engines work and how Frostbite works. However, don't pin me on this one, since my memory can be faulty.

How stating Warden's and Hawke's attributes will affect Da:I I wonder.
Most likely you can design their face as close to the original ones as you wish, and level them up as you do when you create your own character.

I am beginning to suspect they might show up in the game. Maybe as allies in the final battle in the game? That would give the inquisitor enough time to get to their level.
or maybe you battle against them, so don't go putting those stats too high just yet XD
Here is a thought. You have to fight one of them. Picking a side. Kill the warden or kill Hawke :)
Easy choice for me:
- Kill either the persona I personally gave form, built up and molded to greatness:
- Or some random lunatic who just happened to have the right partners at the right time (or wrong partners, depending on your point of view and playthrough)
So yeah, I'd off Hawke then for sure, 200%

To me if i'm reading this right sounds really good, (Upload characters to Keep and create own imports if that's what people would prefer) however saying that it means I have to keep my xbox 360 until release of dragon keep to upload saves?
EDIT: Person above me brought around the point to me that when dragons keep server is put down we can no longer enjoy imports which is rather uncertain how long that may be..!!

What about actually importing your save games? We are continuing to investigate ways in which save files from previous games could be used to populate the initial world state of the Dragon Age Keep.

Wouldn't a simple Java applet solve the problem? A player would upload his DA2 save game files to a website, the applet would then process the raw data and return a checklist of what was actually imported. Afterwards, the player would be able to make alterations to his save files so as to fix import bugs. That's pretty much it.

This is a brilliant solution. It seems like it will solve almost all the save import problems, and then some.
