Right, but if you're console isn't connected to the Internet, it would likely require some data juggling (if it works at all).

The person was asking if they would need the PC version of DAI. I assume that they were referring to using the Keep, since the assumption that they owned a non-PC version of the game that wasn't connected to the internet was made in the original post (when they effectively declared just that).

Well, his original statement asked if it was possible to import his saves from a console without internet without using the Keep. To which I replied it seems like it is not possible, but that there might be a way to use the Keep to then do some data juggling and have a non-internet-linked console to have that data (we don't know, I said it was just a theory).

To which you replied you'd only need an internet browser. Which is true... but, as the poster said, many will need detailed instructions of how to get the files generated from said browser program to their console if their console doesn't have internet access.

We're essentially saying the same thing, I just think we're chasing our tails saying it.

Hey BioWare guys! Your doing a great job, just a question:

*if* Dragon Age Keep has a save uploader, will it require the my completed origins save as well as DA2, or just my DA2 save? Ala Mass Effect?

After all, not all (or, possibly, a large minority even) of console players don't have internet access, a wireless adapter for their console and/or nearby access to a wired ethernet connection to hook their console up with as to make this possible without literally taking their console somewhere else.

Data juggling? In that case, it is likely that I would mess something up beyond repair.

I did have to take my copy of ME3 somewhere else just to register it on the forums. It was hard enough figuring that one out - I had to set up an Xbox Live account long enough to use it once and then delete it. And it seems like BioWare's games are requiring an online connection for more and more now. ):

Yes, I have DAO/Awakening and DA2 for my Xbox 360, which has never been connected to the internet. If I'm able to transfer my saves from those games, I would buy the Xbox 360 version of DA:I as well (assuming that I decide to buy it after more info is released). If I can't transfer my saves, then it wouldn't really matter which console I buy it for.

On another note the Beta Application thingamajig for the Keep requires WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much information for my liking.

Really? What sort of thing does it ask for?

Country of origin, name, etc etc.

I try to put as little RL information in these sortsa things, personal paranoia.

As is why I keep everything as seperate as I can when it comes to e-mails, facebook, BSN other sites.

Same here, I don't put my personal info online like that. It seems strange to me that this would even be a requirement for playing a game. Is that just for the beta, or will it still be required after the game is released?

The only thing disappointing about this is that it probably destroys any chance of sneaking my Morrigan-romancing femWarden into the game. Not a huge issue as I can easily generate a different character, just a minor irk. I suppose it's probably too much to ask for a "ignore logic" option of sorts, eh? Regardless, Keep seems like a fine idea and will certainly make seeing all of DA:I's possible permutations far easier. :)

Excellent news. Though I was anticipating you guys would simply have this 'Build your custom save state!' incorporated into the game proper, the Keep is probably a better solution in that it's not cluttering up DA:I character creation and confusing newcomers.

Hoping it works, and put in my application for the beta. ;) Let's get this thing working right, damnit!

I just thought of something about the form for beta testing that I wanted to clarify. Under the rules if you don't work for a company that develops anything but your husband does can you still apply?

we really aren't going to be able to import our saves between platforms and that 'The Keep' is their sole solution, they just don't want to say, "Hey guys, this is our final answer..." because they know a lot of people will crap themselves in fury irrationally even if there really is, fundamentally, no difference between importing the save files and selecting all the details of all the choices you made in previous games via The Keep.

Mark is talking about importing into the Keep, as it would expedite setting up the world state for your game to recognize. There aren't plans to directly import from save games into DAI. So in that sense, yes the Keep is our sole solution. It'd be really, really good for some people, especially those with a lot of characters, to be able to speed the process along by importing, which is what Mark is referring to with his investigation.

And as far as I am aware, it should include DLC and expansions as well. (I'd be infinitely surprised if they were omitted).

i would hope so. awakening was basically a stand alone game. also, yes, having 20 playthroughs, this thing will be amazing!

So I'll have to connect to the internet every time I want to start a new game?

There's a good chance that that may be the case. Would ultimately depend on how we end up delivering it, things like feedback and so forth.

It makes sense but I sense that some people will be less pleased.

I recognize that this is going to be the case.

they DID say it's cloud based. it's not going to technically be DRM. more like. this is allowing everyone a chance to set up the game however they like, compromises had to be made due to development time and available resources we were allowed to use to implement it.  i'm all for it personally. small price to pay to avoid corrupted save transfers and crap like that

I'm lazy, and it just looks like it is a genesis thing.

I'm on PC, can I just import my pc saves, or must I do this?

I'd just as soon remove the Save Import feature if it's going to be engaging in this kind of uncouth behavior.

Think of the children!

You must do this or accept the default. It has been confirmed.

That being said, there is talk of them trying to import your saves directly into The Dragon Keep, which you can then review and modify if needed. You would then load the file created in The Keep into your game. But no direct file loading from your old save directly into the game.

Thanks. I'll wait until it is out of beta and see. Will use this closer to release date.

@Joe - on the side of the the actual keep itself then;

What kind of graphical interface are you guys looking at?

Will it go as far as to include voice overs, perhaps even videos?

Similar to what TOR did with our dear Lance prior to release?

Again, this isn't actually my team, we deal with that boring backend stuff that no one ever sees but is being stealthy in the background doing lots of stuff. The BioWare web team is handling the interface.

It's actually already looking really great, but I can't really share any details just yet.

so you're one of the unappreciated ninja's holding this entire society together with your stealthy awesomesauce? thank you

I'm curious, can anyone tell us if there will be more than one "default" to choose from like in DA2 (I think there were three options) for people who can't import their saves? It would at least make some variety in the world for multiple playthroughs.

David said there's only one default this time, though I don't know if that's the official answer yet.

On the bright side, at least you called it a save import?
