It sounds like it won't be alot of trouble to make a new keep world state each time. :)

Also, once you have imported the state into Inquisition, you can delete the state to make room again.

So you could basically, if you want, create 5 states at the begining of the game and the import them all, remove them and create new ones.

You're just gonna have a lot of new game saves :P

Yeah, I know I can fiddle with things in such a manner. Means I really need to create a huge spreadsheet for myself though. There's quite a bit to keep track of already with 2 games and their DLC. After Inquisition, it'll be three games and their DLC in some 8 or so separate world-states.

I know Inquisition automagically updates your world-state in the Keep as you play. That's a feature that won't be an option if we need to delete our own world-states. I hope BioWare know that means they truly need to input the choices from DAI into the Keep for a potential DA4.

I'm a bit worried about technical issues, too =\ If I were to import the Keep's world-state #1, then delete world-state #1 and create a new world-state #1 in the Keep. Then when I boot Inquisition up again, won't it auto-update the Keep's world-state #1 with my Inquisition choices as I play? Even though what's in the Keep at the moment is completely separate from the world-state I originally imported?

I hope they've thought of such a condition and beta tested accordingly.

If I relied on my Journal in Origins, I would have killed Isolde and connor. Plus a few other mistakes in it

Personally, "mistakes" like that are what make the playthrough stand out and feel more relatable. One of my favourite Sheps was created with the meta-game idea that I would never allow myself to pick a charm or intimidate option throughout the entire trilogy. Turns out it was a pretty neat way to play for me, full of missed opportunities and forced "A or B? Can't have both" choices.

The great thing about the Keep is that I can force some more mistakes into my games, while you can remove yours, and both are equally valid approaches. Options are awesome! =)

I'm not saying they are a mistake because I did them, I'm saying they are a mistake because I didnt do that. The journal recorded the wrong option

I believe that won't happen. I think the state you uploaded into your DA:I game will get "locked in" so to speak.

Atleast thats the idea got from the tweets about it.

The idea seems to be that once you have a save loaded with the worldstate that you had set as default, You don't need it anymore.

However I have to wonder what that does to the data sent back to the keep for future games to use

I don't mean that the world-state would change from within Inquisition. I'll run by an example.
  • World-state #1 is created. In this world-state, Alistair is king.
  • World-state #1 is set as default within the Keep.
  • DAI imports from the Keep. Choices in previous games are thus set in this DAI save game.
  • World-state #1 is deleted and replaced with a world-state where Alistair is a drunk.
  • World-state #1 is once again set as default within the Keep.
  • I keep playing DAI and encounter Alistair in-game. I kill him.
  • DAI uploads my playthrough data to the Keep, telling the Keep to save the data of how I killed King Alistair in world-state #1.
What happens at that point? Will my world-state #1 have a drunk Alistair, and a dead King Alistair? Or will DAI understand it cannot be allowed to upload data to the Keep since the current save in the Keep doesn't match what is in the DAI save?

I have no idea. I guess it would overide?

I'm not even sure if DA:I save data can be uploaded to the keep in the first place.

I've gathered DAI does upload data to the Keep directly during gameplay. If it doesn't, then there is no issue here.

I thought the keep was strictly for DAO and DA2.

The Keep will update as the player progresses through DAI pending internet connection. That's been confirmed.

The specifics of what/how it all works with deletions and additions to world states in the Keep itself hasn't really been clarified. I imagine really specific stuff like that will be discussed when they open the Keep up or do a specific information blast about the it.

Uh, they've said that there are upwards of 300 variables in the Keep, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say.  lol

Yeah, but there are also over 2 billion ways that just the decisions from DA:O's Romance, Landsmeet and Endings can effect, acording to Gaider. Or was 6 months ago.

Yeah, I'm really wondering about that. They said there was no problem because you could just delete a wold state and make a new one but what about the uploads? And why do they upload? Is it for Dragon Age 4 or just so you can show friends?

Hopefully you can save a world stat to a file and load it on Keep again later but I doubt it.

Now, I'm not a programmer so take this with a grain of salt.  However, my guess is it'll be something more like this:

You create your first worldstate - it's given an internal numbering of 1.  You delete this worldstate and create another.  Even though it occupies the first slot, it has an internal numbering of "2" and that's what the Keep would go by.  So you could have all (what is it, 5?) worldstates full, but each state is set as otherwise unique that will mean they won't be accidentally overwritten.

Reason I believe this is because the previous way Bioware tracked these save states back during Origins, also had a limit to the amount of characters you could have on there.  However I don't recall ever overwriting any of my player data on the site in a way you're suggesting the Keep would.

Yes, I'm aware of this  lol  I was referring to an earlier post; where I thought the commentor was saying the DA Keep will have slightly more than 18 variables like DA2 did.  I misunderstood what he was trying to say, however.  ;)

The impression I got was that it uploads the info for future games - instead of having to tally off all the choices again.

BUT, with that, we then need to know how the Keep will store that info - especially if we create more than 5 world states!

I hope the Keep registers decisions correctly. It'll be an ardous task going back and forth to check if it got things right. One thing I like about it though is that it probably discourages reloading. If for example... killing Morrigan was the wrong choice reloading to go back and changing it might mess your flags up.

It shouldn't. I think Mike said that the Keep will save over.

If you can't remember what you picked when going though The Keep why be frustrated when you won't notice the difference in game anyway even if they did do a direct import.

Some of us are more... obsessive... than others.  It will bother me immensely.

I will be loading up my saves and pouring through the journals, but man, in 2014 this is what we are reduced to?  I cannot fathom why they can't create a proper importer, seeing as they created the save game files, and they designed the save game format.  It isn't like they are taking some proprietary format from a different game company, hacking them, and trying to figure out what everything means.

Yes, it's #keepfactfriday: Did you know the Keep has had over 110,000 applications since we launched the beta? Whew!

I decided to ask about the uploading to the Keep and what will happen if the world state has been deleted. I'll post it here if I get an answer.

Had the game make a choice I wanted impossible due to some odd reason

I'm even more glad the keep exists now and not save imports.

Its because of external restrictions upon them, both Microsoft and Sony are very protective of their networks and it might be more open on the PC, but at least 2/3rds of their player base is locked behind a console where developers have to follow specific rules. For instance in an old interview about The Keep it was said that unless they are in a game they are unable to do anything with a player's save file.

So it really becomes what will work for everyone instead of making individual parts of the software dependent on different platforms, that way in my opinion we all get a better product its just more limited to its inputs.

I still don't follow this. If you can't remember the choices you made, how would you ever know that you got one wrong when using the Keep?

Hmm, does anyone know if the Keep beta is English-only or are they testing in other languages as well?

I remember the app asked me to select a language without any context so I chose the one I play in (English) instead of my native language - but I think the list included other languages not supported by the (previous) games, so maybe it had nothing to do with possible beta versions.
