What does "beta" means?

Like a work in progress. Usable but unfinished.

I was wondering about this. Then I thought, "Well, if they don't have internet, they won't be able to come here and complain!" Yet somehow it magically happens.

You do realize that it's possible to complain about something that doesn't directly effect you, right? Like you can actually think something is legitimately unfair and object on that level without it having to disrupt your life on a personal level? Right?

But yeah. Thanks for totally making my point about self-centered firstworld thinking for me.

EDIT:

Just for interests sake I don't actually hate this idea. It has all kinds of things going for it. I'm just not clear on why a compulsory internet connection would be necessary at all.

You really can't think of a situation where this could happen? Posted Image I'm just curious. And a little confused by this logic.

I still remember when I had to go to a library for internet access, and by that time I had already been playing games for years - I had four consoles and three handheld systems. My family didn't have an online connection in our home, never even wanted or considered getting one until it became necessary for school/work. I don't think I'll ever really understand why people want it in their games, but that's their choice and I won't question it. I just believe it should stay a choice, not be required to use one of a game's important single-player features.

Being able to select the Warden's and Hawke's decisions for imports is a good idea, and it's one I expected with the number of people who might be switching consoles. Keeping that locked behind an online barrier is not.

Well, if some random sidequest was going to have no effect on DA:I in the first place I don't really see why it'd have to be there.

This. My only concern with the entire concept... but it is a huge concern, considering the entire feature is based on that.

It is good that they take it seriousley with import and decision by creating DA keep. The only remark is that it is still uncertain if the decisions will have a actuall impact on the World like in DA2 where it didnt matter.

But still good bioware keep it up.

Because the Keep should have more value than just DA:I. It should have value for DA4 and DLC as well.

Personally, I don't think they should bother tracking whether the Warden did the Favors for Interested Parties or summoned Arl Foreshadow. But for other things, just because DA:I might not use it doesn't mean the Keep has no use for it.

Suppose it's not necessary, but is convenient for the devs? At some percentage  it won't be worth it for them to keep worrying about people who don't have always-on broadband, right?

I suppose, they could restrict DLC choices for those who did not buy and play DLCs ( you log with your EA\\Origin account anyway, and DLCs are account-bound). That sounds fair to me.

On the other hand - looks like they may allow you to make some sort of global choices without even playing the major games (DAO, DA2). I personally did not like, how ME3 literally punished you for non-import run ( or even for an import 1-2-3 run with no DLCs - that was huge EMS loss and most of missions were 'worst case scennario'), but allowing each and every person to trigger something the others have payed for?... I'm not sure I like how it sounds. That's exactly what 3rd party save editors do.

Imo, games owners should have some obvious advantages while using the Keep. Like deeper details or something.

E.g. fresh user can only customize basic set of options, while those who have saves (or those who at least have legal games on their accounts) are allowed to change more stuff.

According to the FAQ, sometime in early 2014.

That's good news. I wonder if we will get to choose how the Hero Champion looked in our games.

This Keep sounds good. There were import bugs when playing Witch Hunt and I'm sure those weren't the only ones. This should provide a way to get our world-states into the game as we want them. Colour me impressed.

Count me as another person who's fully behind this. Since I'm planning on transferring from X360 to PC, the Keep will make things much easier for me, rather than having to acquire and replay DA:O on PC...

Sounds great actually. One thing i wanted to experience in DA2 was all the choices in DAO that affected the game and i never knew exactly what choices changed the game so this is a very good addition to the game. Keep up the good work I am pleased to say i am very excited about DAI obviously there are things i dont want like a voice PC (wish we could have a silent option) but a lot of the information that has come out has been good.

That would certainly suck for all the people who bought the games on Xbox live or whatever and don't have registration codes to bind the game to their account.

At this point people shouldn't be required to buy the older games. Forcing them to do so kind of makes the Keep redundant for new players anyway. The point is that you can jump into the world as you want it to be, without having to rn through old content again.

This is exciting news and a wonderful solution (well, for those with Internet access on their consoles, which I know isn't everybody but seems to be growing more common each console generation).

I was wondering if they were going to implement some sort of system where you could go online and sync your profile to upload the info to BioWare, but this is even cooler because now I can (in theory) create multiple background stories to import without necessarily having to go back and play through the older games repeatedly. Which I do enjoy, but don't always have the time to try every type of outcome I'd like to. This is a quick, easy solution to that as well.

Crossing my fingers that I get to try the beta. Would love to provide helpful feedback. Posted Image
