I don't want to sound like a total dick, but it's really up to each individual how deeply they get invested into things. Nobody, Bioware or other forum goers, can be held responsible or should feel bad if people get overly invested in something.Completely agreed. I wish the Beta had stuck to its original principle of granting people access to the Keep based on what kind of testers they needed at the time. It seemed that BioWare were going out of their way to make access to the Keep as fair as possible and I respected that.
Now it's just turned into an awful sideshow where people are either begging for scraps on the BSN or hitting F5 on Twitter for days on end, only to not get a code anyway. It seems like it's been designed to make people feel as bad as possible about themselves and I've read posts where people complained that it was triggering their depression. That was what really made me feel deeply uncomfortable about the whole thing and I'm glad I haven't joined in the recent giveaways.
If someone's depression is being triggered because they aren't getting a Beta code they should discuss that with their psychiatrist. That's simply not a healthy reaction to something like this. And honestly, this kind of stuff is meant to be fun, and it's just as frustrating for me (and I'll assume Devs) when they try to have fun or do something nice and people go completely off the deep end when it doesn't work out in their favor.
There's genuinely nothing Bioware can do to please everyone. Hell, people were complaining about how they handled the Beta invites in general - not just going for the first people who applied and choosing those that met criteria. People were getting their feelings hurt over that too.
