Applied for the Beta.  Hoping for a favourable decision.
(Does the number of playthroughs of DAO/DA2 have any influence?  If so, I'm a lock!  Posted Image  )

This is the main thing I was curious about. Really looking forward to playing with this XD.

I have one question. I'm not sure if it was asked already:

Will the Keep be able to keep (heh) the Warden and Hawke's appearance?

EDIT: (Off-topic) Capes in DA:I?

I am sort of curious if we'll be able to compare our savegame import data to the recreated data of keep. It would help us figure out which bugs we'd need to fix.

Since it isn't yet confirmed that we will be able to import DAO/DA2 saves into the Keep, this question cannot be answered yet. I suppose it's very difficult with the different engines at all.

Thus, I'd like to phrase the question differently: will we be able to use the Keep to recreate the faces of our Hawkes and Wardens at least approximately with the character creator of the new engine?

(I suspect the answer is no, since the Keep appears designed to be independent from game engines, so recreating visual styles will not be a feature, except if they find a way to standardize face coding that can be expected to survive a few years)

It depends I suppose. Unless I misunderstood something, Dragon Keep could very well be a program rather than specifically the website. And, DA:I DOES have a Character Creator with both Dwarf and Elf options so they could theoretically give us a Warden/Hawke generator.

If they do that, I really hope they give us PLEANTY of options for hair, eyes, mouth, and etc. Nothing bugs me more than when random NPCs have the exact same 'x' as my character. I have this issue more with Origins where the Hair Options were incredibly limited.

It's been said in this topic that the front-end was built by the Bioware web team, and that it uses HTML5, so seems most likely that it's website-only (right now anyway). Of course that doesn't rule out a face generator, but seems less likely unless you can import a DAO/DA2 save.

There are mods for the hair. Much worse is the fact that you can't shape the mouth in DA2 (maybe it was the same in DAO, I don't recall, but if so, there were enough different presets that it didn't bother me overmuch), and that you couldn't make women with narrow cheeks (again, in DA2, the cheeks slider was bugged).

You could shape the mouth in DA:O. I imagine you can't in DA2 because it messes up the lip synch.

Will it allow sharing/publishing "histories"? So that you can go "hey, let's see how my friend's play-through went".

The ME games did well with different mouth shapes. There's no reason why DA couldn't use a similar system.

I found out about this from IGN yesterday and it is a interesting solution to the Save File Transfer problem across console generations. A cloud-based application that might be interesting. Will keep an eye on it. Good Work, Bioware!

Can someone please explain to me why those who are so fixated on importing their Warden/Hawke appearance think that they would look even remotely like their PC in DAO/DA2?

IMO the best we can hope for if we are ever going to see our Warden/Hawke again is for them to throw up the CC and let us create them from scratch right in the DAI engine.

This is a new engine with different hairs, different options, different facial features, and so on. I highly doubt that the Cassandra, Morrigan, or Varric faces that we have seen were done with simple imports. DAO Hair 5 is probably not going to be the same as DAI Hair 5, and that goes for the other features as well.

Mentioning mods is pointless, and I say this as a PC player and mod user. Not only are console players the majority, but much has been made of the modding limitations of the Frostbite engine, so I doubt that even PC users will enjoy the same mods as they did with the previous two games, if there are any at all.

That cheek thing was terrible in DA2. It caused severe clipping with some of the female hairs, and essentially prevents me from using some of the presets because I can't change it.

They have basically the same restrictions. The options for mouth shape in DAO are: mouth height, lip size (fullness), mouth width, and over/underbite. DA2 has the same options minus the mouth width.

If you look through the different presets, the main thing that is the distinguishing feature between the different mouths is the structure of the tubercle, or Cupid's Bow, the indent feature on the upper lip. On some presets this is very pronounced, on others it is very subtle. It is an individual mouth feature and cannot be changed via sliders in either game, which is a great annoyance to me, particularly in DA2 with my preferred preset.

Thank you! I'm so happy to hear it! This was my only big concern about the Keep, and I'm glad to hear it's nothing to worry about. ^_^

So I'll have to connect to the internet every time I want to start a new game?

There's a good chance that that may be the case. Would ultimately depend on how we end up delivering it, things like feedback and so forth.

Ugh. <_<

This irks me a bit too - but if we can create world states that act as a new game save game file, i'm hoping I can load up all my characters in one hit - and no need to access the keep again after that.

While I absolutely ****ing hate the idea of having to connect my game to the internet for my decisions to carry over what really gets to me is the total first-worldness of this decision. Internet is not universal. It is not a basic human right. You actually do get oodles and oodles of people who can afford to buy games but not afford an internet connection. Decisions like this just smack of presumed privelige "Why is this such a big deal? Who doesn't have an internet connection these days?"

Don't preach inclusivity on one hand and exclude people on the other. Selective inclusivty is not a thing.

I was wondering about this. Then I thought, "Well, if they don't have internet, they won't be able to come here and complain!" Yet somehow it magically happens.

People play games at home but they can post here when they are not at home
Going from a location which does not have an internet connection to a place which does requires no magic.
Though transporting a console to the other location and setting it up and connecting with it may.

As a console gamer without a home internet connection, I take it this means I have to abandon hope of importing my world state even if I play DAI on the same format as the previous 2 games...

That is a valid concern to have, yes. Unknown if there will be a solution developed for that or not.

You know, video games aren't a basic human right  either. The internet is extremely important to the video game industry, and if you can't keep up, you're going to get left behind. That's like attacking Marvel for being classist and "first-worldness" for not publishing The Avengers on the VHS, because not everybody can afford those fancy new DVD players.

If you don't have internet, I'm sorry. It sucks that you won't be able to import your previous games. But from a purely numbers perspective, I can't imagine there's a whole lot of people who can afford a $400 console and a $60 game but can't get their hands on internet for even a second.

I think the keep is a great idea for those effected by the MoTA bug and had all of their DA2 saves corrupted like I did. I hope I can beta test it and see if will let me keep my storyline or if Ill have to grind out some playthroughs in DA2

i wonder how specific it can get, since awakening glitched and did not register i saved both amaranthine and vigils keep so oghren, velanna, and nate were dead. i would like to fix the errors in my game, the one thing i am worried that i won't be able to repeat is having a relationship with morrigan, and then breaking it off and ending with leliana. i wouldn't usually care really but morrigan ended up pregnant and apparently she and the baby (OGB or not) will play a part in inquisition. hope that it is still an option! (also i did not perform the DR so it is a normal half-dwarf baby)

Please bear in mind we still have a long way to go :innocent:.  We'll share more info over time and actually be able to answer definitively more questions as we go.  Meanwhile, I'll try to address what I can (or maybe help provide some rationale around it).

I wish I knew about it... I wanted to join the beta as soon as I heard, but im 2 days 2 late... If it was in the GI updates or something I would have seen it...

Applications are still wide open - are you having issues with being able to apply? :?

This may change, but the idea of the beta will be to open it up to more and more people over time, so even if not selected right away there's always a chance to be added to a later batch of users, so go for it!

*This* - It's relevant to a lot of general questions being posed, including 'why' a cloud based one, are files involved, etc.  (Sorry to skip over the actual question you had, but this was a great quote I didn't want to pass up :D) .

The goal is to create an elegant and seamless solution on any platform (now or future), with the least number of 'moving parts' (ie. steps) required by a user.

Early days - but one of the benefits of having this data online is these sorts of things are possible ;)
