According to Justin the response time is 40ms, but presumably they have a very good internet connection at their offices.

It's 40ms to connect to the Keep servers... It's, at most, another 4 minutes 59 seconds to connect to the Xbox live servers(Sony's servers), and then EA servers after that...  The key is you have to be connected to EA's servers before you even attempt to start a new game if you want to get your Keep file(because if you're not connected to EA's servers, then they can't know which account you're trying to take a Keep file from).

It shouldn't even take 5 minutes... But that ultimately depends on one's local internet speed...

Well hopefully there won't be any trouble like that. *Fingers Crossed*

Glad to hear that, was worried for a sec.

It doesn't, at all. The Keep was created to establish a pre-existent game world, based on the decisions of the previous games (basically what me3 did, but with a save state instead). So by saving a file offline hardly counter the usefulness of the keep, since you have to use the keep in the first place anyway. What you gain is that if you don't have internet for whatever reason you cannot load a game state, which is a bit stupid imho. The game load the file from somewhere for it to work, so just making it available offline (please Bioware) should be hardly a problem and definitely it wouldn't create bugs.

The game would have to have a rather substantial patch to make that work, and even then it would only help PC users. It isn't going to happen.

Look on the bright side, soon the Keep will open up to all and you can watch the flood of complaints regarding the lack of decision importing! *dies from thinking about it*

But that offline save file wouldn't ever be updated if/when the Keep updates the choices available.  The pro for requiring internet access is that there is zero chance someone has a bad import due to faulty information.

The only people that could use an offline version of the Keep would be those on the PC(due to proprietary issues with Sony and Microsoft), and anyone playing the game on the PC would be using Origin(which would require an internet connection for your first attempt to play the game anyway).  If your internet connection isn't stable enough to be connected to the Keep for all of the 5 minutes it'd take to start the game, click new game, and select the uploaded Keep state, it's not Bioware's fault...  I fail to see why people continue to complain about this.

Corrupted files can be an issue, but that rarely happen from my experience. And yes, you require an internet connection to first launch and install the game (same for another game i play, football manager. Still it's annoying imho) but after that you can play even if you put origins offline. That can't be done if you want to start a new game and load a keep game state. If said game state from the keep could be imported somehow offline you wouldn't need to have working internet to start a new game not "default".

An offline keep will not be released by bioware tho, so this line of hope is pointless.

That's not their focus though. If you really want the answer use the #keeptwitch and see if they answer.

One has to have some really bad connection for it to ever take that long. Since the Keep doesn't create an actual save file it may create something akin to face codes which wouldn't require much from any connection. It will probably take close the same time as actually loading the Keep "site".

And corrupted files has been an issue for others, an issue BioWare felt obligated to fix.

How often does anyone not have a working Internet for BioWare to have to just change the way the Keep works? Your game client only points to the selected world state you set in the Keep and nothing. The client is basically being made as dumb as possible to avoid any sort of error by the client.

And what is there to import offline? You will always need to get something be it the entire Keep as a download or a world state as a download. Even with your request you will still need to be online at some point. But at the same time your request can create issues BioWare wanted to eliminate once and for all.

I for example will be for half december in a place without internet. So you can see my pain and why i hope Bioware do something about it.

As i said the problem is not connecting to authenticate the game or create a save state on the keep. The problem is that, unless you can save the file offline, you can't use it afterwards if you can't access internet.

You only need to use the internet when starting a new game.

Yeah, that mean that i won't be able to start a new game as long as i won't have internet, unless i stick with the default start.

Keep in mind what Durhon said....  If you know you're going to be without internet in December, and think you're going to want to start a new game with a Keep import during that time, start a few new games before you lose the internet, and pick one of those to play...

It would hurt if you lose the internet for a few days unexpectedly right when you're wanting to start a new game.  But it's a minor inconvenience.  And it's not like you can't play with the default world state.

Good evening.

Because many People wondering about multiple World States or Save States on the PC or Console it self (and as there is only one Explanation on a Twitch Stream from Mike Laidlaw yet), i try a simple explanation here. And it is very very simple. Well you need a Internet Connection of course.

To have different and multiple World Plot States from the Keep in DA:I, you have to:

1.) Login to the Keep

2.) Export World State 1 to DA:Inquisition.

3.) Start a New Game and select that World State.

4.) At the next possible Point, make a Manual Save.

5.) Voila World State 1 Imported saved for later use.

6.) You can now Play the Game or exit to the Game Main Screen, if you want to Import more Custom World States.

To Import another Custom World State:

7.) Export World State 2 to DA:Inquisition.

8.) Start a New Game and select that World State.

9.) At the next possible Point, make a Manual Save. Now You have World State Number 2 successfully saved for later use.

10.) Again: You can play the Game or repeat the above Steps to Import another World Plot State.

A small Q+A:

Question: If I Import World State 2, do I lose World State 1?

Answer: No. Not officially stated by the Devs but to repeat my self: It would absolutely make no sense. Or Mike Laidlaw would not have mention the possibility, to have multiple World Plots saved on our End.

Question: Will this only work on PC?[*]

Answer: I am not a Console Player. But I am sure it will work on Consoles too. Would make no sense to limit it to PC only ;)

Question: Can I backup the Savegames with the different World States?[*]

Answer: On PC: Yes. I am sure we can. The Frostbite Engine creates Standard Savegame Files within the User Folder.

We dont know the exact Path Settings yet. But the Savegames should be somewhere under

<UserName>\MyDocuments\blablabla or <UserName>\SavedGames\blablabla. Not sure what Variant is used by the Frostbite Engine.

On Consoles: I have no Idea if there is a way to Access the Savegames and back them up. Eventually there is a Description somewhere™ on the Internet. Sorry.

Question: How many World States can I Import and Save on my PC or Console at the same time?[*]

Answer: The exact Number is not known yet. I personally think at least 2-5 or 2-10 on PC. If it is somehow limited at all.

Question: Do you violate the NDA?

Answer: NO. I do not. :) All Infos are officially available from the Keep and / or the DA:I Team itself. Be a Twitch Stream or a Twiiter Mention.

[*] = This Info will be updated with the Correct Information as soon we get them officially.

And now: Here is the Link to the Twitch Stream from September 29, where Mike said, we can have multiple World States. Look at: Minute: 22 Second: 33

http://www.twitch.tv...are/b/573285688

This post will be updated as soon we get the rest of the Infos. Will latest be at the Release Date.

Have a good one.

Oliver

Is the keep getting wiped before release?

Should I make my game imports, or wait until it's really done.

After agreeing to the NDA, you have to wait for them to let a wave of people in which generally happens midday on weekdays. They send out tweets when they do and the tweets are normally reposted in this thread.
