So uh..you can't actually make your own DA:O character in keep then? Only pick from some pre-sets?

No. Defaults are there for convenience.
Your character(s) name(s), picture, achievements and class will upload from sync from your account on BSN - you have to set up your world state from scatch. Just uncheck the green check mark where it says defaults when you sync in debug on the options list to the left of the screen and you will see only your characters loaded from BSN.
Edit - looks like the site might be having problems, they're doing tests according to Twitter.

If you don't sync your characters it will just be default images. But syncing has nothing to do with the world states - all of that still gets set up individually.

So, could I simply create characters in DA:O and DA2, save after the little opening intro and have them sync to the Keep - and not actually play the characters through the storyline (as I'd have to recreate the playthroughs on the Keep anyway)?

I'd assume so, yeah.

Great! That'll save over two hundred hours of playtime, thanks.

The main point of the syncing is to get your own own portrait picture (although that will only mean anything inside the Keep) and custom name of Hawke / Warden as well as the achievements stuff.

If you signed the NDA yesterday (Oct 23) until now, you have access to the Keep! Enjoy!

Exactly why I asked. I have 5 Wardens mulling around, but only 2 have finished the game and have been imported to DA2. Wanted to know if I could create the planned Hawkes and sync them to the Keep without having to complete DA:O another 3 times and link the heroes together - especially since with the Keep we customize the playthroughs anyway.

I'm unsure how much we can say given the NDA, but to keep it simple, no you don't have to replay the whole game.

They imported a character created in the DAO character creator today on the stream, so I don't think how little you have to do to get a character in the Keep is any kind of secret.

Yeah, but that only works for those on the PC... You can't just do the CC on the 360 or ps3.... You have to save the game, in the game, for people on the console to get the character in the Keep... But it isn't going to be immediate like the demonstration in the Twitch stream today.

Wait so even if it manages to find my dao character from years ago, I still have to manage to remember all of the choices I made? From four years ago???? How the heck do you expect me to remember all that? I can't remember a quarter of what all I did!If you don't sync your characters it will just be default images. But syncing has nothing to do with the world states - all of that still gets set up individually.

I'm so excited to see how the choices we put together in the Keep affect DA:I! Some will just be reflected in codex entries, of course, but I imagine that others will have a more direct impact on the game, like the imports did in DA2.
P.S. For those worried about remembering your choices, c00lguy24 is right, the Dragon Age wiki has all the info you need.

Could you provide a link? Don't know what good it will do. It was four years ago.
In other news, I'm happy that it has full tablet support. Too many sites these days aren't, and I do all of my web browsing on my fire hdx now, since my computer is a dinosaur lol, just waiting for it to go extinct like the rest of its brethren lol.

Yeah. That's the way it's always been. There is no importing for decisions at all.

Well look on the bright side, if you can't remember what choices you made, you won't notice if you get any of them wrong!
