i'm a little confused about how DAI gets into the Keep.
I found a list of like 11 DAI Playthrough States, but as I have only one character, i'm not sure what this is about? how to choose one? do i want to?

You basically just create a world state on the keep. Name it if you want to differentiate. Click "export to DAI to basically set it as the active world state.

After you choose your race and class (as long as you're connected) it'll ask if you want to import. Choose yes. It imports and just verify the time matches the time in the keep on the export.

I like how we have no option to import our own saves. Awesome decision there.

"Sigh" Its already been explained hundreds of times why it was not possible because the bug filled plot flags in DA2 saves were not enough to truly carry our worldstates to Inquisition and beyond to future Dragon AGe games.

Honestly, after some consideration I too think this was the most "awesome decision" They could have come up with considering the circumstances

Would you rather import a Dave that didn't work properly because of bugs? Doesn't seem like a great alternative.

Yes, actually. I want my Hawke to show up the way she looked without a bug that changes my voice. I want all those playthroughs I did to mean something. But whatever, it's not a big deal. Playing with the keep is kinda fun. Just wish there was more choices that mattered.

Well, now you've quoted me and I can't fix it lmao

Well, the bug can be fixed (maybe in the patch today?). And while I'm sorry it's happening to you, it's not happening to everyone. If that bug was gone there'd be another one taking it's place from a direct import that would irritate you.

As far as decisions... Why would direct import mean more decisions would have mattered? You're just because you made them, doesn't mean they'd have an impact. You're literally recreating your save in the Keep. I really don't see why it matters how the decisions get into the game.

According to the "Announcement" post at the top of the thread, there's a workaround for this (pending a "hotfix" for it.)

See Conal's post here.

I checked the forums while downloading the patch. Saw all the complaints and then cancelled the update

Does anyone know if I change a world state that has already been loaded, will it affect my gameplay in any way? Or will I just have to start a new game to take into account the changes. Mind you the changes I would make would not affect anything I would have done in the past. It will only affect future events that have not yet occurred in my game play

Changes to a world-state in the Keep (or creating an entirely new one, for that matter) only have any effect on a NEW game in DAI.

There is no impact at all on any already existing game.

You know my only real concern with the Keep is this 5 World States stuff mainly because after watching GamerMds video on the keep she said creating your World States can take some time and I think having to delete one that you spent time creating to make another is a bad design choice.

I think the Max Number of World States should be 10 not 5 because alot of people that have played these games non stop and have finished complete Playthroughs for every Origin will have a rough time having to constantly create, delete and create again and that is really going to suck A**.

Best to look for the most up to date information first via BW channels....

The Keep allows for 10 world states.

Don't know if it's already been asked, so sorry if it's the case (made some search with no results at least), but I wonder : all this Keep thing is nice and funny (though I can't understand why you can't simply make a non-default character on the Keep, seriously ???), but what happens 10 or 15 years from now, when I want to dust off my ol' games and realize that all this online stuff is dead/deprecated/whatever ?

Will we be stuck with the default state for all time ?

It's not like if it's a contrived case too, BG2 is still played these day and it's 12 years old, and EA has already often pulled the plug on servers for games that are barely a few years old.

All these online-only things are maybe not always specifically conceived as strictly DRM, but they certainly act as such, with the same problems.

in 10 or 15 years we'll find out.

Characters will upload but it's not guaranteed and they cant just patch DA:O and DA2 to fix it.

"we'll see in 15 years" is just about the same as saying "there is absolutely no guarantee you won't be f***ed over".

As for your second line, I don't understand what's supposed to mean : the problem is not with DAO and DA2, which are dependant when it comes to save state, it's with DAI, which requires a proprietary online DRM to import your previous choices. So what's the relevance of DAO and DA2's patching ? 0_o

The propriety online drm works a lot better than any previous method of save game importing. There's no guarantee in 15 years valve will still run the steam service, or EA will run origin.

That it works better has nothing to do with the problem at hand - they could just as well have released an independant exe which does the same and produce a savegame file to import in DAI, and which wouldn't be linked to any online DRM.

As for the "no guarantee that it will work in 15 years", yeah we don't know if Steam or Origin will still work, which is PRECISELY the problem.

But what makes it more acute than usual is that EA, as I pointed above, has a, to keep it lightly, not very good record of sustaining online services for their game past the first few years of cash-grab.

How would the exe work on consoles?

I don't know why we're focused on what may or may not happen in 15 - 20 years.  It's something to ponder - but is it really something to focus on a month after the game came out?

i dunno if this is somewhere in the thread but i cant read through 300 pages...

do keep decisions REALLY alter your dai experience? i mean yes some cameos might not happen when characters die (if there are any - no spoilers pls) but besides that, since ur playing a new character - is anything really different?

Good point.

Ah well, it always down to dumbing down things to the lowest common denominator it seems...

Sorry if I'm not scatterbrained and shortsighted enough to not wait until I slam into a problem to consider it.

I dont think the keep team has any idea what will happen in 15 years either. Or anyone at bioware. Maybe the next 4 years

Sorry if my 15 year plan isn't concerned with how a video game will upload saves.

Seriously. They probably haven't figured that out yet. Could we at least wait 5 years? It's irrelevant for the foreseeable future. They aren't going to share the info if they do know.
