Will I be able to detail what kinds of relationships I had with my compaions? Did I do their personal quests, give them plot items? Did who I took on important quests effect the plot? Can I express if I had max friendship or rivalry with my DAII companions? Will treatment of old NPCs carry over as well?
What about glitches? In DAII, my Awakening save file never went through properly. Other then dialog confirming my Warden was female, it mostly went with the default history and characters who survived were treated as though they died...Though I naturally assume issues like glitched imports are the kinds of things the Keep will be fixing.

IT is just extra work for little gain. The "buggy" direct import was good for current-gen consoles. It did not need to be eliminated just to add a little extra work to import a playthrough onto the same blasted console.
To be clear, the import to same generation consoles hasn't been "removed." It never existed with our current engine. We would have needed to spend the time adding it, plus still come up with a solution for people that move on to other platforms.
In this case, we tried to find a solution that works for all platforms.

1) it won't work for console-gamers without suitable home internet connections (and many still exist in the world)
2) If the Keep should cease to exist/function (and nothing lasts forever) it will not work for anyone
currently, it seems that the only option for people unable to import from the Keep is a single default start which was primarily chosen for people who had not played the previous games.

No doubt there will be a third party save editor with the same variables as the Keep, but right now I have no idea if data encryption on next-gen consoles would allow this. ME2 & 3 save editing didn't work on PS3, for instance.Get Magna Carter wrote...

Is there any reason why something similar to the Keep (an option to select choices we made in our previous playthroughs) can't be included within the game itself rather than having it online only?Allan Schumacher wrote...

The current solution won't work for people who don't have/use internet connections with their game systems.

maybe Bioware will allow us to save the information on a usb stick so if we use it at a friends house collage or work we can use the usb stick on the ps3/4/xbox/pc.

Hopefully this will be possible, and easy enough to manage, if there's no other way.Tharja wrote...

The big reason would principally be the usual: cost (in terms of manpower and therefore money). Unfortunately, so I was told by some fellow employees while hanging out during PAX, is that it would actually be a lot of work to do.
Unfortunately, I am not a part of the Keep team and don't really know much, beyond that. But this was a casual conversation at dinner one time and it came up (as Keep feedback was one of the big buzz things released just prior to PAX).

Cost as in it would cost more to not add internet functionality or cost as in the profit potentially generated by a required internet connection far outweighs any other alternative?

And BW have already said that they're looking into that.Ieldra2 wrote...
Let me reiterate that there is a demand for exporting the world-states of existing DAO/DAA/DA2 saved games to the Keep.

Cost as in it would take a non-trivial amount more effort to take a system that exists principally on one platform, and to fully implement it into 5 different ones.
I'm talking exclusively in manhours of work to make it work, not any sort of nebulous gains that may or may not be realized by making the system exclusively online.

But the plot flags are still built into the actual game (all 5 different versions), right? From what I understand when people mod their saves, there's some sort of check-lists for each choice that determines what content people will see. Would it really cost that much more to allow people to influence a system that is already on the game disc without using the internet?Allan Schumacher wrote...

Just trying to understand the problem here.
