Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I played my PS3 I was allowed to hook up to my pre-existing wi-fi free of charge. Sony products don't make you pay for online services. However, like it's been said time and time again, it's likely you can import the data onto a USB drive and connect it manually. That said, you could go to your local library if you yourself or a friend or family member does not have internet access. (However, you're online right now, so I assume you have some access to the internet)

I don't have wifi, and the internet service provider I have would charge me an additional $35-50 a month ON TOP of the nearly $100 a month I already pay.  That extra money I can't afford.  I can't afford to go through my cell phone provider, and I even if I could my signal strength would be next to nothing.  As for my bandwidth usage, it takes nearly 1G to operate two tabs on Firefox.

Dude... you are paying $100 a month to your ISP? Really? I'm in the UK so I don't know if thats typical but that seems like... a lot of money, especially for capped bandwidth - tell me you are getting phone and TV for that too!

Also you can buy a n standard wi-fi router on Amazon for < $30 - why woud you pay your ISP for wi-fi each month? Maybe I misunderstood?

On topic - Personally I think the Keep is a good idea. ME was about the continuing story of a single character (primarily) so the choice they made were far more relevant to the ongoing story line. That is far less so here where the protagonist has nothing (directly) to do with previous games. If this really does give me the opportunity to build the world I want to play in, rather than the ones my previous saves define I can actually see this adding to replayability quite a bit.

I'm curious about something: Will the whole Ultimate Sacrifice - Awakening problem get fixed with The Keep? Honestly that has been the biggest problem in Dragon Age so far. Being forced to play a dead character so that you can decided what do in the expansions and DLC's or import directly from DAO and having the choices made for you is quite frustrating.

I was wondering about that, too.  The ISP shouldn't even know whether you have wifi.

I hope so.  I also want to be able to tell it my Cousland became king and Alistair stayed with the Wardens.

Well, my situation is that I cannot afford to hook my PS3 up to the internet, and because of the Keep being online only, I can't play Inquisition with imported data.  The only way I could would be if I could directly import my save data.

If you have an extra ethernet cable you can attach it to your PS3 manually. There should be a slot on the back. SHOULD. It's been a while since I have used one, but most devices like consoles that are wi-fi adapted are able to connect manually as ell.

And holy crap that's a high internet bill. I had unlimited internet for $66 per month before I moved. (now it's free, whee! but limited). And like someone said above, you can easily by a wifi router for about 30 bucks. Your supplier wouldn't charge you extra for that, or shouldn't. But I'm from Canada, and that's how it's always been for us.

But like I said, you can go to the library where you have free internet access (or cheap at least) and do it there, then attach it manually to your device with a USB drive (more than likely, I don't know if it has been said this is available for sure, though I think it's been hinted).

Actually, if you import a save from Awakening that you used an Ultimate Sacrifice import on, DA2 counts the Warden as being dead and that the Warden Commander was Orlesian.  This was tested by at least one forumite, and I;'ve used the save game he uploaded for other people to try it.

Of ocurse you'd still have to play through Awakening with a "ressurected" Warden, but the devs specifcially made sure that DA2 assigned higher priority to the choice of who died to kill the Archdemon than to whether or not the NPCs in Awakening recognized the Warden-Commander as the Hero of Ferelden or as an Orlesian.

tl;dr The issue on a import tp DA2 is already "fixed", so the Keep is practically guaranteed to correctl flag it for imports in to Inquisition.

I've sped through several back-to-black Awakening runs in the last couple of weeks, and am working on yet another. Just felt like it, as it had been quite some time since I had played that expansion. The first couple of passes were to finally finish off games featuring females Wardens that had survived Dragon Age: Origins and gone on to become Warden Commander; in both instances I had left them incomplete for lengthy periods (for no particular reason). Then I created a few new Orlesian Wardens to play around with, and it's funny but my current Orlesian Warden-Commander, a male dwarf rogue is perhaps one of the funnest that I've experienced. I only mention all of that, as the upcoming Dragon Age Keep sort of excites me. I've played through the previous games (and related dlc) so MANY times, that frankly, I don't want to have to worry about remembering the vagaries related to all of those Wardens and/or Hawke save files. I for one will be glad to just select the previous world state options for Inquisition that channel as much of what my various goals were to suit my first few playthroughs of the latest chapter.

I mean, it probably isn't compatible, but it would be fairly cool if we could create world states for DA2 as well. Especially since the Keep is going to be available before Inquisition is.

Strictly speaking, BW haven't explicitly stated that that this won't be possible, but at this point there's no way they're going to patch Keep importing into DA2. So... no.

That doesn't mean it can't generate a save file for the DAO save folder so that you can import it into DA2.

As I understand it, we're creating world states, not save files.  Its unlikely they'd be compatible.

I seriously doubt they'll do it, but I would totally love to see an awakenings import that gives me a lvl25 Orlesean Warden Commander with starting gear and just retains my choices.

From what I read here  http://blog.bioware....gon-age-keep/   It would seem that we will be doing more then just the world state, but in essance a save file. Maybe not in the traditional since, but its says :

"Within the Keep, you’ll be able to customize a Dragon Age historical
world state to your exact specifications. How did you modify your Warden
and Hawke? Who were your companions? Who did you choose to romance? Who
rose to power, and who fell in defeat? What legacy did you leave?"

Sounds good to me

If they make that like some historical document we have access to, that we can then modify to selectively choose the history of Thedas(our past games) then that'll be both hilarious & sadly like the real world.

Did anyone else agonize over what they were going to use those 500 characters to type up? I wrote my plea, re-wrote it, then again and again. My final edit probably sounded pitifully whiny and beggar-like. *sigh* Guess I'll see if it did me any good when they decide. :)

I went for more of a self advertisement approach.  I had no idea what to write though.

I did as well, but it was such a short amount of space to write in. Although understandable, as they have to sift through and read thousands of these.

Also, I know Bioware announced this will begin at the start of the New Year tentatively for beta testing, but do we have any idea as to a ballpark figure of how many testers they'll take and when they'll start selecting? I remember Allan (I think?) mentioning they hoped to open the beta up to more people over time. I was just curious to what the odds of being selected are. I wonder how many people have already applied?

The issue is that it would essentially be a long checklist you can feed into DAI.  It won't be formatted like a DA:O save file, it's working with a different engine for one and it's not intended to be formatted like a save file.

And? It's child's play to write it to a file that can be read by DA2, if you know the format. In fact, I suspect that creating an import file is what the Keep will do with regard to world-states to be imported into DAI, since it's much easier to create an import file and download it to your gaming box than to make the game import the decisions directly over the net. The only real risk is that nobody knows the DAO savegame file format anymore because the documentation was lost or never up to date, but then, they fixed some bugs relating to decisions carrying over with the 1.4 patch so I don't think that's all that likely.
