And? It's child's play to write it to a file that can be read by DA2, if you know the format. In fact, I suspect that creating an import file is what the Keep will do with regard to world-states to be imported into DAI, since it's much easier to create an import file and download it to your gaming box than to make the game import the decisions directly over the net. The only real risk is that nobody knows the DAO savegame file format anymore because the documentation was lost or never up to date, but then, they fixed some bugs relating to decisions carrying over with the 1.4 patch so I don't think that's all that likely.

I'm not certain what you think I said that is at all different from what you've said here.  Certainly it will be a file, I just doubt they will structure it as a DA:O save file.  More likely, it will be a simple checklist to be fed into DA:I.  If they really wanted to, they could design it as a DA:O file certainly, but why would they go out of their way to do that?

I just don't think they have any desire to devote the resources to making a file format the works for both engines and making sure it works for DA2, a game they have said they are entirely done with.

So have they confirmed a direct console import of save files for the same console yet? Or are they forcing you to use the keep or their set "canon"?

Not yet, but I'd be surprised if they didn't allow it

Okay so here is my question for you guys, am I going to see the return of those "exclusive items" I worked so hard to get in DAO/A and DA2? the example being things like starfang and vigliance from DAO/A and things like the belt hindsight, ser issacs armor and so forth using the keep? I'd like to have the option to get these hard earned items back should I choose to have them or the option to forgo them entirely should I choose that in a playthru.

The word is that it is not currently a feature or in the plans.  I think they said it wasn't entirely ruled out, but don't quote me on that.

Anyone have any idea how the beta is going to work? Unless they release a demo at the same time I don't see a way to make sure the decisions translate well, you know?

"Translate well"? No idea what you mean. The Keep is a website which lets you input your decisions/world state from DAO and DA2. That world state will then be imported into DAI, similarly to how save files were imported into DA2, and the game will recognise some of the choices you've made.

What is being "translated"?

Will the Keep be accessible through the web browser on the Xbox one and PS4? i'm thinking of a link on the startup screen that will load browser and link to the Keep after the HDD installation. or only through a PC?

sorry if this has been asked already...

Yep. One of the purposes of the Keep is to make it possible to transfer world-states between platforms. You'll need a machine where you can call up a website in order to input your world-state, but after that's done DAI will be able to use it regardless of platform, as long as you have net access with your gaming box. It is as yet unclear whether it will be possible to save the world-state to a file and copy it to gaming boxes with no net access. It is possible that we'll need to be online when starting a new game, which is regrettable but acceptable from my point of view.

Your post sounded as if it were very difficult to write out the world-state in form of a DA2-importable savegame file. That's what I was objecting to. I grant that the DA team may not have any desire to do that, but it's really no big thing at all, as evidenced by Gibbed's Dragon Age savegame generator whose creator didn't even have access to the file format documentation (I wonder if this little application inspired the DA Keep). If the DA team is interested in some added value for little effort, IMO this is something they should consider. It would be a boon not just for fans, but for people who come to Dragon Age with DAI and are interested in playing the earlier games.

The choices made in the keep translated to DAI.  More coherently, I'm wondering how effective beta testing is going to be without also seeing DAI.  I'll get the answer when I get it.

Aren't you basically saying that you want to know how the world state imports will affect DAI...? Also known as, "the plot of DAI"? I don't think we'll get any/much information about that until the game comes out!

No, I'm just curious as to what the beta testers are supposed to do once they start beta testing, how the beta test is going to work.  But that answer will come in time.

Well that would work badly for me considering i usually play offline and it would be a pain to literally HAVE to use the friggin keep to recreate the data i spent multiple playthroughs and decisions making.

I think the Keep is a cheapening measure to the expreince of playing DA personally; Its a clever way to bridge console gaps don't get me wrong but i have data on my memory units and storage devices and i think it would be a friggin shame for that literally to mean nothing if they literally made using Bioware's dubious canon or the keep your only choices when it came to selecting the world you exist within in DAI.

If one pair of the many hands Vigilance passes through happened to belong to my Inquisitor, I might ****** myself with excitement.

It looks like the good idea. I played DAO after DA2, so it will definitely come in handy if I didn't finish my second DA2 run.

They say we get to decide who the Warden and Hawke traveled with and I'm wondering how much detail we'll be able to include for the companions that appeared with the previous PCs.

Velanna for instance has so many possible fates.

The Warden kills her.
The Warden tells her she was tricked, which prompts her to escape.
The Warden helps her search the Silverite Mine for Serrani, but tells her to leave.
The Warden helps her search the Silverite Mine for Serrani and then makes her a Grey Warden.

All four cause different epilogues for Awakening and that doesn't count the changes gaining or losing her reputation or upgrading Vigil's Keep may cause.

WAIT... I just thought of a problem.

Warden/Hawke appearances. Not if they appear, but how they look.

Would the Keep let us redesign our Wardens and Hawkes, if for no other reason then peace of mind (though of course, zots). Chances are slim either of them would appear, but if they did I'd hate to see "Default Dwarven Warden" in place of my own carefully crafted god of a Dwarf.

We don't know. Personally I don't think there's any chance, but if it does happen it won't just be for "peace of mind" - that's an expensive feature and if it were to be included, I can't see BW not using it for a character appearance!
